Nice colour Mtap, and great crackle.pete
  2. Da Vinci was ambidextrous, I would have loved to have seen some of his mistakes ! ! !pete

    A few more...

Gee gunnie, I like all of the, very nice work.pete
  4. Yes usually the left for some reason- I don't sell them, so it isn't a problem- as longm as they swim, the fish don't care.pete
  5. See also bike, safety, fire fighting, or ski goggles, replacement lenses, about 1mm , and you can cut it with scissors.pete
  6. Still using those hobby knife chucks, although I am in the process of changing over from plastic to aluminium, the thinners/acetone keeps melting the plastic ones, and welding the lure to the holder. I am also starting to find anything over about 4" is a bit too heavy for them. Hemeostats are great too ( and cheap by the dozen) but I have a hard time putting them on the wheel, so have to change them over. KC uses a magnetic wheel, which sounds like a good idea. pete
  7. Seafoam, if you got to the 'Gallery' and have a look, there is a 'comments' section next to every post, some get them, some don't. If you have a problem, ask the question, and post the picture in 'Hard Bait's', best if you indicate the problem in the 'Title' block, so when searching for an answer to the same problem, members can find it in 12 months time. I don't' think this has anything to do with owners, money or police, it is to do with space and the 'search' function - Spike (and others) do this, and I'm sure, a heap of other stuff on here, gratis. Hang in there.pete

    Tater

Rookie - Congratulations, and good on you. Not too sure what this 'Tour' thing is all about, does this mean you will be travelling a lot?? If so drop in, I live in Canberra - Australia, and I can show you some of my secret little projects in the shed, better start cleaning it up.pete
  9. Nice one Rofish, I am just about to start shaping a swim bait, when (if) it comes to painting it, I will certainly use this little trick. Thanks .Pete
  10. I finally got around to reading this entire thread, swim baits seem to be becoming a real craze there. These are something I have never seen in the flesh here, but sooner or later they will take off here also. There is some pretty impressive work being done, so I had to check the gallery, and Mark/Snax amongst others, have obviously put in heaps lately, for some excellent results. Nates creations swim across the screen, the paint is so realistic, and he seems to have that joint 'down pat'. After reading this thread, in conjunction of many past posts, I am amazed to see the evolution of hinges, ballast weighting, optimum segment sizes etc, and for me they are engineering marvels, when I check out one swimming on YouTube. Keep up the good work guys, there will be a lot of spin offs from all your work, for us 'Mono' body builders (Mark must spend hours fiddling). Thanks for sharing, I think I will have to have a go at this.pete

    swimbait

BRC- very nice job, I would like to see that swimming. pete
  12. diamai- I agree, jigs are really time consuming, and if you will only ever build a couple of lures of a certain shape etc, it is a waste of time. I have a heap of jigs for all the mundane steps in lure making though, these can generally be used on most of the limited shapes I make. There is something about jigs though (for me), it is a real challenge, to repeat something exactly. I have been working nights for the past week, trying to make a tool to bend wire hinges, it's been a bit frustrating at times but I think I am just about there - placing them in a lure and having them 'swing' freely is the next challenge as they are small (1 per joint @ 2.7mm thick) very rigid, have very little end play, so they will probably squeak like a garden gate!!. Now three is an idea who needs rattles? pete
  13. Thanks 'Smallie', makes for interesting reading, and as the photos show, like us, they are all around it, but too, seem to be having problems with which cutter to use. I have been reading some patents, and there is a Russian guy with some interesting ideas on cutters etc.pete
  14. BM- Try googling or 'searching' TU 'PS900 Airbrush', you should find something @ about $38, you need to use a code to get it at that, the code is 'bigfish1'. There was a thread about these on TU about 6 weeks back. FleaBay also has similar brush (with all the fruit) at a similar price. pete

    Some recent jerkbaits.

    Very sharp Paul, great paint/screening.pete
  16. I think you done pretty well there Diemai, you would not want to see my 'pidgeon' German explanation. I just googled up a 'reef hog', as I had no idea what it was. I think if I were making one I would, before even starting to shape the lure, when your blank is 'SQUARE' - As Diemai done, place it in a machine vise and clamp it to the bed of a drop saw (marking the angles), set the saw height and run a saw cut through, flip it over (reverse angles) and do another cut. If you want to do multiples, I would be setting everything up with angles and depth etc, and make a jig to hold each blank at the correct angles, you should be able to bang them out by the 100's, after spending a bit of time on a jig. It is obvious this is how the original is cut, with either a saw, or router pass. Good luck and keep us informed.pete

    New TopWater

Jeep- Great work, and I love those colours.pete
  18. It was 110 in Adelaide on Tuesday, 100 here today, this is a bit too hot for me, but definately sounds more comfortable than -10, I will not gloat too much though, as it gets to -7 here in 4 months. Hang in there .pete
  19. Red- Yes , but any pressure above what you want would be vented, causing the compressor to run continuous (same as without a regulator). It would be easy to attach a tank, and regulator, this way it will cycle on and off, and you get your desired pressure and no noise and less wear.pete
  20. Frank - "Well I am very new to this board but here is something I've been working on. There will in the near future be uv cured finishes that can be cured in seconds with the right light. The reason I mention this on this thread is a product I been using to make eyes is just that a uv cured polymer. When cured it is clear and". Thanks for posting this, there has been a few posts on this in the past, but nothing that is as simple, and readily available. Apparently commercial lure builders have been using it for years. I can just see everyone now, finishing lures under old black photographers capes, or coming up with 'Dark Room' plans, and the appropriate Infra Red lighting (or whatever) - groping around in the gloom, looking for a brush, etc - wife entering the 'dark room', flicking the switch and destroying 10 lures in a 2 second flash. Bring it on, I am sure we will get around these problems. They say it is not real tough, just quick, but I am sure we will find a use for this stuff, which to me sounds very interesting. Keep us posted.pete
  21. CJ, you are a very lucky guy, you must have been over the 2.5 - 12.5% E.L ??? I have not had this happen, but I know what you mean, it really surprises me when I do this, how much air can come out of one small piece of wood, with such a low vacuum.pete
  22. John- "might have to try and work out why now i guess". Your in, your addicted, and you are gone - you realise this is the end of the world as you have known it. Better get used for those sleepless nights, and half hour showers.pete
  23. The brake pump looks the goods, but maybe you will have to turn the piston or valves around, I have never used one, but think they are a force pump, for forcing brake oil through a system??? Should be simple enough though. AH, just went to TJ's link, and they are vacuum, so should be ideal. Sorry about that. pete
