    Blue Peac-ock bass

Beautiful work again Kazan, in fact, works of art. pete
  2. Dan - I am going to have to burn them, they are starting to haunt me. pete
  3. Dlew , that light does work, just chose not to turn it on ** and the pink mask is the infamous pink crocks ! ! Vince you had 4 workshops to play in, if you don't like the mess, you can just go to another area and start over, they were very cosy though, all of them. Dave, I want to see your new one in six months. pete
  4. Daymon- Maybe a bit untidy, but that looks like all good keepsake stuff - have a look at this mess, 20' x 18' of chaos. pete
  5. Looks like frogs eggs Phil ! ! Maybe we could us this stuff as a bait?? Good glue too. pete
  6. O.K , I know, you have seen the pictures, I started to clean up, I threw 2 trailer loads of treasures in the tip, built 96 square feet of shelving (with doors) and still I am struggling to store my treasures . Another boat came along, I have no one to harass me, I habitually go from one project to another, and back again - is this a sign of DEPRESSION or suppression. Yes - it's me, I have the messiest shop in Calwell, if not the planet. I can't help it.pete

Yep Rod, that's the one. Thanks pete

    shopvac

Whatever you do, dont' use a shop vac for air extraction. Vacuum cleaners suck filtered air through and around the motor to cool it, and there are armature sparks flying everywhere. The day you decide to just give this lure a spray with some of that lacquer you have lying around, instead of using the water based acrylic, is the day you blow your workshop and probably, house up. The motor needs to be sealed, so the arching armature will not ignite any solvents or sawdust in the air stream. Some of the best explosions you will ever see, are with sawdust, its as good as gun powder. Evaporative air conditioner fans are sealed and also oil furnace fans, just suss out the local recyclers. Somewhere on here there is a few plans and a video on how to make a booth, you will have to do a search, try "paint booth" for a start. I don't have one so can not supply pics. pete
  9. This is an idea that has evolved over a couple of years. Some times here we troll, and jig flies for trout, and after an hour or two this gets a bit much, even if you are catching them. The first one I made, I used a small funnel, attached with 3 pieces light string, did not work too well, and when it did pop out of the water, it usually tangled around the rod tip. This one is Mk 4 or 5 and seems about as good as it gets, but I am thinking about another 1" in diameter would not hurt. What
  10. Dave - I can see why you are asking, @ $41.75 ea, I would be trying to make some too. As Bob says, appears to be nothing more than a photo finish, a bit of pearl and probably a lot of B.S, the lip looks a bit dodgy too - there is a heap on 'Photo finishes' in the archives, start with "Lincoya's" original tute - Still can not believe $41.75 ea, but someone must be buying them. pete
  11. Thanks for the info all, they arrived yesterday, 2 days to get here, I can't believe it - they certainly look like they will work though. pete
  12. I finally got the right steering cable, attached the steering module to the bulkhead - this is picture with the steering down (seated pos) , it will go even lower for storage, when the cover is on. Steering in the up position, which is high enough to steer while standing. A hole where the live well was, it’s now a 4' x 3' deep storage area, and found a box in the back shed that fits nicely. Finished the wiring today for the electric motor, with 2 X 120 A/h batteries All I need to do now is get the steering powder coated and fit the throttle /shift controls, sounds easy!!! pete
  13. I didn't see those, I just bought 2 on fleabay (Au) for $23 delivered, which I thought was cheap, as Scotty plastic relese clips cost $8-9 here. Thanks anyway Swede. pete
  14. Thanks Rog, I will google it- that package will be leaving here tomorrow, will email you all the particulars by tomorrow night. pete
  15. Has anyone come up with a sure fire down rigger release clip? I only use them for trout up to about 5lb, but average is about 2lb. The commercial clips seem to be made for much bigger fish, and I always have trouble setting them, and usually they don't release. I have been mucking around for years with clothes pegs, alligator clips, you name it, anything with a spring. Just thought maybe someone has come up with a home brew version, THAT WORKS. pete
  16. Jamie I have been using PayPal for a couple of years with no problems, and I but crap from all over the planet. I know what you mean about security though, I done $380 about 4 months ago (not PayPal). A friend of mine thinks his credit card may have been cleaned out, (with a $20,000 limit on it), last Thursday, also not PayPal - It's a scam where they tell you your card has been violated and ask you to cancel it - to cancel it you have to log on and they then swipe your pin/account number etc. pete
  17. Jeep- like it, has the rock and the roll, music's good too. pete
  18. Borderbasser - I just got onto this thread, very fine work on those lures/hinges, great lateral thinking with the dowel and pin. pete
  19. This address will tell you how to use it http://www.woodworkforums.ubeaut.com.au/showthread.php?t=29950 This address will tell you where to get 'U-Beaut' Hard Shellac http://www.ubeaut.com.au/eee.htm click hard shellac in the sidebar. The jury is still out on its durability as a finish (seems brittle and probably not UV Stable), but as a sealer under a UV finish, it may be the trick -fast drying and easy to apply, easy to remove. Just found this also, - * ETHANOL (also commonly known in Australia as - 100% Industrial Methylated Spirits or 100% IMS. and sometimes called pure alcohol or denatured alcohol. If you can't get 100% IMS then it is strongly suggested that you use 95% rather than a cheap methylated spirits without a percentage specified, as this by law can contain up to 40%+ water and will ruin the shellac and your finish) pete
  20. Phil - If you look at the lures the gallery Under Hazmail), the lures titled "Gold Toad" and "Harliquin" , were both clear coated with clear shellac (about 6 coats). It is a shellac, and is near enough to clear (very light honey), I think the manufacturer calls it "Clear Hard Shelac", which they boil or something. I will have a look tonight and try and find the web site address (lost all my favourites), or better still have a look on the bottle.pete
  21. Phil- although I seal mine right from the start, I also started sealing the acrylic paint on the last 1/2 dozen I made, just before going to US and (by my eyes anyway) they were by far the best and most consistent finishes I ahve done, so far. I sprayed them (air brush) with one good coat of "Clear Hard Shellac". I think this must fill any pinholes in the paint, and 'fixes' any invisible fine dust. pete
  22. Al these coatings seem to have their down sides, and these Blue fish would only magnify the problem. D2T is hard, maybe too hard- if you mix some up, and have some over, leave a 1" pool on a strip of silver tape, and in about 1 week peel it off the tape, it will shatter like glass, so imagine what those razor sharp teeth are going to do. pete
  23. Kajan - They call that Yellow Perch 'Red Fin Perch' here, another pest, introduced species - very agressive feeders though. pete
  24. hey Phil -have a go at these--http://www.vlasenko.ru/2100-nnn/2133-txt.htm

  25. Gaboon - I drove through there in May (Ozark Mountains), beautiful part of the world, except for the tornadoes - no doubt you will have some great tips for the 'rubber guys'. Welcome again.pete
