  1. Thanks for that Dave - No I don't have a solution to vortices unfortunately, but the laminar bit answers some problems I have, I think. Thank you again. pete
  2. How good is that, great idea. pete
  3. Bruce- I use ethyl alcohol (called Metho or Methylated Spirits here), it's cheap and as long as paint is water based will strip anything, just "flush your brush" and tip it into a jar. I usually tip some in the brush and leave it there until I next use it (put the cap on or it will evaporate), keeps everything spick and span.pete
  4. Dave - I have allways assumed the rules would be basically the same for air/water flow over a lure in relation to "Wing effect", assuming the lure is roughly the shape of a wing cross section and has neutral buoyancy in water- am I on the right track ? OR am I going down a dead end alley? I posted this instead of PM you, I thought it may be also of interest to others. Only go a deep as you have to here. Just wondering. pete
  5. chartreuse - Loved the flag bit, great description. pete

Thanks everyone.Pete

Dave- I don't know if they found the owner, I got the pic in an email. It's illegal, to be kept as pets, but some are - If it was a wild one there is no way you could hold it like that. Like you say, I bet their mobile phone is getting a hammering - come to think of it , it would be a good way to get back at some low life that may have ripped you off etc. pete
  11. Daymon- What sort of timber are WE using here - Frames/gables, etc. I am starting to feel like I am building it. Better get the nail bag out. pete
  12. Sounds a bit wacky I know, but maybe the water temperature is greater than the air temp, causing the air to expand in the lure, lifting the coating. Also consider the atmosphere and temp that the lure was originally sealed in- was it very cold/ humid etc. I have never made 'foamies', but with the heat extremes here (-5c winter to 40c summer) it is sometimes a problem with wood as well, especially balsa. The top coat may be a problem also, DN is tough and relative to D2T is soft/pliable and takes a long time to cure, I have never used some of the rod finishing type top coats on lures, but they are soft/pliable as well. Whatever, it seems to be expansion/ contraction, the old suck and blow problem. Have a look at your primer, peel the blister off, is it bonding to the foam properly? Hope this is of some help. pete
  13. castmaster - Very fine work mate. pete

  15. KC - yes , I'm looking forward to trying some of these 'craft beers', they are into it here as well and like you say, some good, some not so, but all very different. pete
  16. Bruce- In case you want to know , I am into Melbourne Bitter, Boags Strong Arm Bitter, or Boags Premium Larger, but I lean heavily towards wine, any wine as long as it is red or white, just thought you might need to know this, for catering purposes of course!! Pete
  17. Thanks Mark, I never thought of that, I have a new compressor but that does not mean much. pete

I thought everyone knew what a pussy looked like!! Can't believe they are holding it, especially a male, this would usually be compared to putting your hand into an electric pencil sharpener, strong little B's with claws like a bear. pete
  19. Mark - I am having a contamination problem at the moment and am very fastidious about cleaning and sealing every coat, I wear the latex gloves only sometimes, when it's hot, they pose more problems than they solve with the sweaty hands etc. I am now suspecting may I have an old batch of D2T or have some oil in my alcohol (heaven forbid) or cleaning spirit. It drives me crazy, I get one lure with near perfect finish and the next is covered in craters. I suppose this is what keeps us addicted, spending more time analyzing problems than making lures. I have just foiled four 2" lures, it's going to be interesting seeing the finished product, as you cannot help mauling them at this size.pete
  20. How to bend it and below how to make a press - It does not have to be that complicated, I done my first lips with 2 spoons and a paper clamp. 1. Get a small can, I used a SMALL discarded, chopped tomato can, something you can heat cooking oil on the stove and is narrow and tall. Put about 2" of cooking oil in it, I used olive oil (I have a cholesterol problem), but any cooking oil should do. Place the oil on a very low heat gas or electric burner and SLOWLY heat for a few minutes to get it around 170 C to 180 C (350-360 F). Tip- Hang a piece of Polycarbonate in the oil and periodically move it in the oil- when @ correct temp the Poly will start to bend easily, now lower the heat a bit so oil does not overheat, test every so often to make sure the temp is O.K. This was photographed on Sydney Road Melbourne. you would think they would know better - It's a Ring Tail Possum. pete
  22. Mark - I use water based acrylics (Tamiya and Jo Sonja mainly) and just spray this sealer over a color to stop them being reactivated by the next layer. Because it is so thin and matte, I would suspect it may be difficult to remove the new paint layer completely, if it was a gloss coat it would be easier, but then the next layer would not stick so well. Could be worth testing first, I often wipe it over with petroleum spirits ('Shellite') to remove finger fat etc, before top coating, with no affect. Incidentally shellite will not effect water based paints either, printers use it all the time, to degrease printing plates etc. I don't think I have ever needed to remove a complete layer of paint - just shows how exacting the paint work is *** I wish. If this is not clear enough and you need to know more, please ask , I'm happy to help. pete
  23. AAAAAAARRRRRRRRRR- this post may help. Re: Foil ??? Kribman
  24. I have been using Artists Pastel Fixative for a while- spray it on and its dry in about 15 seconds. pete
  25. Spike- for future reference , What's a "Polish SlipBobber"? it may be the only way I get a trout this year. pete
