    Crawdads?

"A lot of guys here can really do some fine work with the airbrush". Including you Travis, very, very nice lures. pete
  3. Dave - I have a source for bath tubs now, so am really motivated, to make the "Test Tank"- see John a new member 'Jbrowntrout' @- http://www.tackleunderground.com/forum/showthread.php?t=10963&page=9 Pete
  4. John, welcome to TU, I just read your intro and am thinking you may be inundated with requests for discarded bath tubs - there has been a bit of an ongoing brainstorming session lately on how to set up a "lure test tank", hang on to your hat. pete
  5. ricam - Maybe try Microsoft Paint or Photo Editor, both are much simpler and user friendly than Photoshop. I use these all the time to crop and reduce pics. If there are a lot of pics, such as a tutorial I upload to Photobucket, then to TU. I think once you sort it out you will realise, like most things it's pretty easy. My daughter is in London so I was fortunate enough to have 'Vodkaman' help me. Hang in there. pete

    Jewfish lures

Jewfish (Mulloway) are a much sought after surf fish here. I have only caught one about 8-10lb, and that was an accident. I have never intentionally fished for them, as it is pretty specialized (can weigh up to 80Kg or about 150lb) you need to be single (out all night) and have the patience of a rabbit trap. I have seen pictures of a fish they catch up around New York (I think) which looks a lot like them. I know feathers (with a hook) are a popular lure down around Tathra (south coast) under the bridge. See here - http://www.tackleworld.com.au/Fishing%20Tips/Mulloway.html Pete.

    6 inch Musky jerkbait

Vince - I saw these on your rack, it's interesting seeing them painted, love that green with your usual finish. I know what you mean about photographing flash, for some reason the camera does not see it. I am going to try a 'Polarizing' filter next. pete

    Beautiful set there, great colors.pete
  10. Yes, I'm thinking you are right here, I spend more time lately making machines than I do making lures and am currently working on that TEST TANK, can't help myself. pete
  11. Clemmy- that face rings a bell but the name Greg Vinall does not ring any. I wish I had known what he was up to , I would have been 4 years further down the track now, that must have been pretty ground breaking stuff back then. pete
  12. There were quite a few posts on this back in April (2007). http://www.tackleunderground.com/forum/showthread.php?t=9102 I used to use this a lot (years back) with auto primer/sealer and it worked pretty good, never had a problem with lures blistering in the sun, which when selling them is your worst nightmare. I have tried it a couple of times with Prop and it seems so good on the wood I use, I just dip now because my jar would not all ways seal. Years ago I tried the penetration thing with wood stain and had the same result as "PalmettoBalsa", weighing seems to be the only 'telltale' on smaller lures, you can feel the difference in weight. pete
  13. Merry Christmas everyone, hope it 's a safe and pleasant one for all. I am driving down to Adelaide via Melbourne to spend Christmas with family, see you all in about week. I hope you get what you want and want what you get. Pete

    Test Tank

Sorry if this came across as sarcasm, it was not meant to be. I watched the videos but did not notice it was just a large bath tub. Some times I miss the obvious, looking for the complex **.pete

    Test Tank

Yes Goolies you got it- That's what I forgot to add to my circular tank thing, the island in the middle to stop the vortex. Basically that's what I saw Rapala using years ago. pete

    foam question

I am coming in late here and have not read all of this topic, so if I am off track please excuse me. In a past life and in my youth, I used to make surf boards with foam. to get a higher density in the foam, excess foam mixture was prepared and then blended was quickly poured into the mould. These moulds were concrete and sealed with a series of clamps around the joint. The foam would expand at the normal rate , but because the volume was confined it would be compressed to a very strong dense but still boyant foam. pete

    Test Tank

Vodkaman-This might make you scratch your head Dave- How about a wind tunnel, there is probably one at work. I know this is left field and as usual a bit wacky, and gravity would have alot of influence as opposed to buoyancy etc in water. BUT if the tunnel was vertical, Huuuummmmmmmmmmmm??? pete

    Test Tank

Well there you go- of course, we don't need any flow at all, funny how I can make mountains out of mole hills. Thanks Sagacious.pete

    Some more patterns

No wonder, they look pretty good from here. pete

    Test Tank

I am sure I saw Rapala using circular tanks (years ago), probably before they could afford the comparativley huge pumps needed to get the through flow in rectangular tank ** I don't know??? pete

    Fruit salad

3", 10gm's, Kauri pine, unweighted. pete
  24. Thanks Bruce, but there is nothing around her that would take a lure that big (except cod), if I was up North (Northern Territory or Queensland) I would certainly give it a go, just thinking****maybe the old Flathead (Salt water lakes) may attack something that big- better get to it , I'm going after them in Feb. pete
