How to paint Baitcasting Reels

More than anything........what kind of paint has been used? I would assume a paint that does not require a clear coat after application. Is it thinned before application for use with an air brush? I'm interested as well. -
I have and it works okay for cranks with lips, but not tough enough for lipless cranks. And, as Rod said above, it won't hold up to the toothy critters.

I generally pick my tubes up from Lowe's or Home Depot and I NEVER ship in cardboard tubes. I just cut the tubes to the length needed, cap and ship. -

I'll never use cardboard tubes for shipping, nor will I buy from a supplier that uses cardboard for shipping. No less than 50% of those shipments arrive damaged, regardless of who is used for the shipping. -

Well, I'm certainly not qualified to offer an answer, but I would think the best approach would be to trim the lip down, a little at a time so as not to ruin the action, until you got what you wanted. Patience is the key in these cases, so just a little at a time.

I use a woven graphite sometimes on a few spinning rods. It is very light and sensitive and looks great. Perhaps this is the material you are referring.

I don't believe any of us will ever be penalized for detail in our painting designs. With color, that's a different story, but detail.....it never hurts.

Have to agree with BobP on this one.........#1 split rings and, so far as trebles go, I only use the triple grip hooks now........I can't say they get you more hookups, but when you get one, its generally going to stay. Acts the same on wood too...........

Another thing to consider is this: Fish don't have hands, or arms for that matter. They are extremely limited in how they evaluate something they are curious about. Also, I would guess that well over 50% of the strikes we get are reaction strikes. I fish in dirty water a lot, so the detail of the bait is, shall we say, not as important as the overall color scheme or action. Just a thought.

The most stressful point for a hook tie would be if the lure was actually hung up, therefore giving the fish a solid point to apply pressure. However, on the end of a line with the rod firmly in hand, I just can't see where a properly epoxied line tie would ever receive enough pressure to pull out.

I don't know where you might find it in Germany, but you could probably order it and have it shipped to you from the states. It might be pretty costly, but that's my only suggestion.........sorry.

I use x-acto blade holders. I can generally find them on sale for a buck a piece, take the blade out and it holds my rattle traps and tops with no problem at all. YOu just have to clean it up every once in a while to get the clear coat out. And....my experience has been that the plastic handled blade holders, while cheaper, are not better. In fact, they don't work well at all. Spend another quarter and get the metal holders.

Yeah I do remember those.........in fact, I am looking at a couple right now. One big and one smaller version. Can't say that I have tossed one of 'em in years, but they are really nice and in great condition. Love the look of them.

Hey, do any of you guys have old Hellbender lures? I have one that I am in the process of taking down to repaint and was surprised to find that it has a wood body. I thought it was just a molded plastic. I knew it was old, but I didn't realize that it may be really old. Does this surprise anyone else, or is this old news?
