    Sources

I am wondering if anyone knows of the sources where Barlow's, Jann's, and the others get there supplies? I like Worth Company because I can buy in large volumes but I would like to find other manufacturers that the distribution companies use. Can anyone provide me with some other companies that sell in bulks of 1,000 minimum.
  2. I ordered some components from lurecraft the other day. Only ordered from them one other time with no problems. But with these reviews I will start ordering more from them (trying to get away from Stamina). And for a lot of the parts I use Lurecraft is the next cheapest to Stamina.

    What is this?

I poured lead for the first time last night and I kept getting a crud on the surface of the lead. After so many pours I would have to scrape off the crud and keep going. The lead I was using was very soft sheets that I cut into small squares to fit in the pot. I figured that it was just impurities forming on the surface but figured someone on here would know. Thanks
  4. In the next few weeks I will be opening a online store with a physical store to come shortly after the new year. As a fellow lure maker I would much rather stock my store with the small guys lures than with Rapala or some of the other big names. So if anyone is interested in putting some lures in my store please contact me via PM or email: sales@gotkf.com Really looking for lures for bass, pike, walleye, crappie, perch, trout. Not looking for plastics or wire baits. Fly's are also wanted. Thanks
  5. Just got my fluid bed in the mail. it is not what I thought it would be. I figured there would be something to hold the lures in the cup. Are you supposed to hold the lure yourself? What prevents the paint from blowing all over the place? What I figured was that you put the lure on a hook in the cup close the lid and turn it on. But obviously it is nothing like that.
  6. Yeah I currently get all my powder paint from Ben. But gonna need to start buying it much larger quantities and figured it would be cheaper to get it from the source.
  7. Don't feel bad. When I first found this site I had no idea what POP was either. It is Plaster of Paris. It can be found at any wal-mart in the craft isle. I have made a few molds using plaster, but I am not patient enough to get the hang of it so I just fork out the money and buy aluminum. It is the best bet for molds.
  8. I might be losing my mind but I was pretty sure I have been to Pro Tec's website. I was looking for it last night and today and I can't find it. Does anyone know the address? Where is the best place to buy pro tec powder paint in 1lb. per color quantities?
  9. This kinda applies to everyone so thought I would put it here. I am new to selling my lures and am curious how you guys got your start. I have a loyal base of local customers that buy the majority of my stuff. The local shops carry my stuff but that is about it. I just got my website up and running and have a few ways I promote my stuff out of the local arena. When I travel I usually try to stop at a few bait shops along the way but I have learned that my sales ability is lacking. So my question is for you guys. How did you go about getting the word out? Is advertising on websites worth the money? I have found a few fishing sites that have decent prices for advertising but not sure if its worth it or not. Thanks
  10. Thought the little guy would throw in his two cents. I do not really have a pouring station. The pouring I do is in such small quantities there is no need. I just set up in the garage. Open the door and turn on a fan behind me for ventilation (works perfectly). I have my microwave on a TV stand and my colors, glitters, molds, etc. fit perfectly on the shelves below. I set numerous cookie sheets on the floor around me and after I remove from the molds I put baits on sheets according to color. Nothing fancy but it suits me perfectly. Now my station for wire baits is another story.

    Weed Guards?

    Thanks, headed there this morning!!
  12. I am going to do some research. Have a few ideas for lead. I used to live in Colorado Springs but since have moved to the GOOD side of the state(Grand Junction).

    Weed Guards?

Where can you buy Devcon? Is that something I can pick up at Wal-Mart?
  14. This is a old topic but thought maybe some people have some new sources for lead. Just got approval to pour lead where I live and bought a poison tail mold and don't think wheel weights are the best source for someone starting out especially with that mold. I know a couple plumbers but I think they mainly do new construction. Any other ideas???
  15. Couldn't get Zen Cart to install. keeps saying that my php. is not writable. Tried OS Commerce and that said couldn't access my SQ database... I am just going to hire someone. Really can't afford it but I don't have much choice. I am not computer savy enough I guess
  16. Tried to make a web site using Microsoft Publisher with its premade templates. Well that didn't work out to good for me. So I just downloaded Zen Cart, filezilla, and notepad++ and gonna just do it the real way. Now as someone with ZERO experience building websites besides with templates should I give up this idea and run???? Or is it not so bad??
  17. The point of the thread got lost. Forget wal-mart. After landing a deal with sportsman's warehouse and Gene Taylors locally I have no interest in Wal-mart especially after hearing from you guys......thanks very helpful. But the main purpose of the thread was to find out what kind of percentage you give people who get your products into stores?
  18. I saw on another forum some guy put a alert that he thought Stamina was a fraud site. Made me laugh. I have two orders currently with Stamina. First one was placed on the 22nd and the second on the 25th. I am pretty curious how these will turn out especially since I am on hold until the first one comes in. Really hope it is this week.
  19. Thanks for the info. Will see how this pans out.
  20. A second part to that question is " How do you put that percentage in your books?" I am sure the accountant will want to know where that money went?
  21. I received a phone call tonight from someone I know and he told me that he was talking to the sporting goods department manager at the local wal-mart and he is interested in putting my jigs and spinners on the shelves. I told the person I know that if wal-mart put my stuff on the shelves I would give him 10% of however much they spend. My question is "for you guys who sell your stuff what is a good percentage to offer for someone making the effort to get your stuff in a new store?" Most of the other companies I deal with for my sponsorships pay me 10% so I thought that was the standard.
  22. I had the same thing happen when I first used my new gallon. And as Del said I forgot to mix up the gallon. Haven't had a problem since then. When your new it is easy to forget things. I have forgotten to mix the gallon, add salt, I have even been distracted and forgot the microwave is on. FYI, I recommend newbies do not put scent in there plastic until its done cooking that stuff will kill you when it burns LOL
  23. Not a problem, I've been called worse. LOL I am originally from Burlington, WI.
  24. I buy my jigs with the weed guard already in them. Pretty much impossible to take the weed guards out of the lead....
