    Buying Hooks

Yes I like how barlows does the listing. One thing I haven't figured out is what all the comments about improvements in Eagle Claw hooks??? I've never noticed any change in them and caught lots of fish on them. Now I also use Mustads, VMC's and I'm trying the Matzuo's. I've got a few Daiichi's that were sent to me, and I really wish True Turn made a jig hook with the cam action in it but they don't, that's how I got the Daiichi's. Never heard of the Sohumi's, any more info would be appreciated!! Fatman
  3. You can buy the painted heads through Cabela's, Bass Pro, and even through the Blakemore site. With the trademark they have people who mold their own cannot sell them to tackle shops or anyone else. Jigman I powder paint the ones I pour at home. I have to take the extra time to wrap tin foil around the swivel and it works fine. Any that get paint on the top swivel I just clean well and make sure the swivel spins freely. Fatman
  4. Go to RCBS reloading supplies, they have a good one that the guys on Cast Boolits talk about all the time $50 bucks or so. fatman
  5. You can find them at Lurecraft http://www.lurecraft.com/catalog.cfm/Poly-Sil-Paint/Do-It-Molds/Earrings-For-The-Ladies---NEW!!!/Do-It-Molds/Molds/do~it-molds/lead-mold-accessories?vw=all According to the web site the owners supplier had a die made for them and had them made. You can get them in quantities of 100 or 1000. For $44 a thousand I'd get them and not worry about it again. Good Luck!!!!!!!!! Fatman
  6. From the post assume you're making your own melting pot. Show us some pics when you're done!!!!!!!!!!!!! Fatman
  7. Check here at http://www.crazyanglertackle.com/ he has every color of chenille and really decent prices and will sell in skeins. If you don't see your exact color send him a photo of what you're looking for. Fatman
  8. Wire on the Netcraft one only goes up to .031. I'll check some of the other ones I know of and let you know. Even the Boggs wire former doesn't make those spreader arms. Fatman
  9. Bass The Netcraft tool will make the parts you're looking for. It takes a few practice ones to get it right but after that it's a piece of cake and you can turn them out while watching the tube!!! You will need a really good pair of wire clippers for snipping them off. Fatman
  10. Do It has a mold for that it's called a trolling sinker mold but can be used casting. http://www.do-itmolds.com/pdf/catalog10/pgs36_43_sinker_molds.pdf scroll down to pg 42 and it's called the IN-LINE TROLLING SINKER Puts up Minimal Resistance You'd have to buy two molds to get all three sizes you're looking for. Getting Lead

MuskyGary Let us know who you've bought the pure from on ebay!!!! I ask this because on several of the boards I'm on folks have gotten hard lead when they were promised soft and you never know what you're going to get. THanks Fatman
  12. Flat I was lost on the melt temps of the different mix's until Hawn explained it to me too!!!! LOL This is why I love this site!!! Been melting and molding since I was 11 and I had NEVER fluxed my material. Read the what was at the time a thread on fluxing and tried it, worked great although the first time it flamed up I thought Oh Crap trouble!!! but it really does work!!! and makes your materials mold oh so much better. I'm still asking questions about this thing we call molding and loving it. Fatman
  13. Flat Ebay sometimes has listings from Hallmark Metals Corp 930 Wellington Avenue Cranston, RI 02910 Casting Metal Pewter Alloy with silver 6+ pound bars Well I wanted to know if they had one that was cheaper with no silver in it, and other questions do you offer the 92-8 at a cheaper price as there's no silver in it??? $59.00 Does it come in the same 6+ lb bar??? Yes Also what does 6+ mean?? 6 1/2 lbs. Avg 6.6 lbs per bar In laymans terms how close is this to the weight of pure lead?? Lead 0.4090 lbs.cu.in -- 0.2624 lbs.cu.in (Hey I'm not a metalurist I don't know this stuff) Do you provide the MSDS sheet showing all elements??? Yes This is just one company I checked with and it's about 2/3 of the weight of lead, With a pound of this material I can make approx. 200-250 per lb. (if I'm wrong correct me) of 1/16th oz jigs. That's still alot , although I'd then have to bring up the question, can you powder paint them the same way, as this stuff melts at a lower temp. I've posted about the lead free materials before as Vermont has lead laws (right now it doesn't affect jigs), but states next to me have different laws. Fatman

  15. Is there any way you can do a photo step by step on how to do this??? I read other places that you can take unweighted ones and using a dremel put a washer on the side of it to do the same thing but I haven't got one to balance off yet. Fatman
  16. matt Once you get started it's hard to stop!!! LOL Been tying for years and they keep coming off the vice. Great thing about it is that you can make up color combinations that will never be seen on the tackle shelves. Keep em coming Fatman
  17. Reading the description, the only thing that would bother me is not knowing if it was hard or soft lead. Also the fact that they say it may have some other stuff in it would lead to thinking maybe tin also. It might be cheaper to just buy a bar of pig lead which is 99.9% pure and while it's a pain to cut it up at least you know it's pure. Fatman
  18. Worth has pretty good prices Size 0's Polished Brass $11.30 Plain Brass $9.70 Polished Brass Lacquered $41.30 Nickeled $11.80 Gold Plate = call for pricing Hagens might be the best bet as you can mix and match might be a few dollars more or less depending on what you want Chuck and Debs has size 0 $2.50/100 for brass $2.70/100 for nickle
  19. Jason I get my crane swivels through Hagens or Worth. If you powder paint you have to cover the swivel in order for both ends to work. I use a small piece of tin foil and after powder painting it use needle nose pliers to pull it off. After curing make sure to check both ends swivel and if the top one got a little clogged take a really sharp razor blade and clear the top of the swivel. Using these techniques for me has worked really well Fatman
  20. Check with some of the guys here on the boards who make and sell, you might get some really good painted heads and do the skirts and blades yourself. With some of the artistic powder painting some of the guys here do I'd much rather buy 10-20 painted heads here than through a catalouge. Fatman
  21. If you've got corrosion up where the element plugs in you might want to get a new one, I had the same problem and the elements just kept burning out but even quicker. If you get a new one don't throw the old one away!!! Dig the element out of it and use an electric hot plate or a gas stove to heat it. You can do most of the dirty work of cleaning the wheelweights in the old one and save the new one for cleaned lead. Fatman
  22. I clean mine out after every use. Sometimes I'm using pure sometimes wheelweights and I don't want them mixed. DUDE ALWAYS WEAR GLOVES!!!! better to burn some leather than your skin. Hope it isn't bad!!!!!!! Fatman
  23. Congrats on the success!!!!!!! fatman
  24. I just use an aluminum bread pan adn punch holes around the edges works great Fatman
