  1. Nice Cad!!! Can't wait to see the final's especially when the proto's look this good. Hell I'm lucky to use one color :Dbut I'm usually only doing them for me. Fatman
  2. Looks good Dubs!!! I've been sticking with one color haven't even tried two yet but sooner or later I'll get to it. Fatman
  3. Look in your area for muzzleloader groups/re-enactment groups they pour their own lead balls and it might lead you to a source of lead. I've been extremely lucky in that I have two privately owned repair shops that save me wheelweights and have never had to buy any. Now if Vermont pass's any more laws on lead fishing tackle I'll switch over to non-lead but it's gonna break the bank. Fatman
  4. Well since we already had some snow:eek: although later this week it's supposed to go back up in the 60's I HOPE!!! This winter will be pouring painting and tying jigs and tying flys and making spinners. Fatman
  5. Like Cad I have 2 of the Lee Production Pots and love them. The only difference in the two is 10 pounds of lead. If you're gonna be casting large jigs and 1/2 to 1 ounce sinkers all the time get the big one. You know what your needs are better than us. Fatman
  6. Is the Jig and Lure Seal Coat stuff you talk about from Jann's Netcraft?? Is it safe to use with plastics?? I currently use 2 part epoxy from Jann's which I've been using for years. Fatman
  7. Now that I re-read your post I fully understand. If the mallard feathers won't tie in right try steaming them use a tea kettle and steam them straight, then make sure to take the webby part off as Troul Hawk said. I recommended the FAOL site as tying procedures for flies will make you a better jig tier. Helps train your hands. Good luck and if you need more help let us know. Fatman
  8. Have you tried a coffee filter instead of the paper bag?? Fatman
  9. The best place I can send you is Fly Anglers OnLine, Your Complete Internet Flyfishing Resource. on the left hand side of the screen click on Fly Tying then click on Beginning Fly Tying. Take the course and take your time and it will help you. or if you need more hands on help check your local area for fly tying class's I took mine free and took the course above. The stuff you have will make fishable flies but you need dry fly hackle to get them to float right. Hope this helps Fatman
  10. If you have copies of the jigs go to Dophin Sports and get the Hilts Replication mold Hilts Molds: quality fishing tackle making products. and look it up, cheaper than an aluminum mold but still works. Fatman

    Mold Mod

Yeah that's the only thing I don't like about the Hilts molds, the hooks hang out but that's a sharp idea as long as you don't want to sell the mold down the road. Fatman
  12. Spike Tried it with folded clevisis and some large willow leaf blades and it didn't work so good LOL, I tried it with the stirrup clevis and a real small plastic bead and it worked fine. I think the size of the fold is what mess's it up just no room to put the bead and without it they just mash together. Now I don't make musky spinners but hey wire forming is wire forming, I might try some smaller inlines with the double blade setup and see how the fish like them. Thanks, Fatman
  13. I poured constantly for about a 4 hour period several weeks ago, just small ball head, minnow head and pony jigs and even with fluxing and already clean lead I had some crud in my lead, but you will get some nasty looking stuff on top of your lead if it's too hot. I'm also one who pours around 750 degrees and it's always worked for me. Fatman
  14. Spike I used the stirrup clevis's for years and switched to the folded. What do you find best on musky spinners?? Fatman
  15. Okay, I've seen you post this on several boards. Take a digital photo of the color you're looking for and email Danville and Waspi and see if they have that color and get the catalouge number for it. Then ask them for a distributor closest to you and have that shop order it. Most companies chartreuse and green chartreuse are very very close in color so sending a photo will help. I'd like to see a photo of it too!!! Danvilles Rayon colors http://www.danvillechenille.com/chenille_cchart.htm Danvilles Nylon http://www.danvillechenille.com/chenille_nchart.htm As I said colors are very close Danvilles Size chart http://www.danvillechenille.com/chenille_schart.htm Wapsi chenille (they carry Danvilles) http://www.wapsifly.com/page%2042.pdf Fatman
  16. griffo If they don't have the exact size you're looking for send them a message through the Ebay system and tell them what size you want. They're pretty good folks to deal with. Fatman
  17. I'm with Matt, I always use epoxy glue when repairing a rod tip, I've only done one for myself the others are for friends with kids!! And re-wrap it does add some stability and even if it's not perfect who cares the kids have a good rod to fish with and that's what counts. Fatman
  18. You guys who pour your own jigs and lures in California better stock up on the wheel weights now, they just passed a law to phase them out by the end of 2009. Lead wheel weights to be phased out in California by end of 2009 - Los Angeles Times Fatman
  19. Easy one go to ebay and then Stores then search for Maul Sales, he carries them in alot of different sizes and colors. Fatman
  20. zman was reading about fluid beds on another site and a couple of guys have commercial fluid beds where they're dipping hundreds of jigs at a time. But the cost at $675.00 was way out of my league and that's only to do one color. Fatman
  21. Spike You'd think with as many people who use the Boggs and write to them they'd offer this as standard with their wire former. Fatman
  22. What kind of mold??? Does it require wire inserts and do you have them??? What size hooks and do you have them??? Let me know Fatman

    Lee Pro 4 20

Javelin I've got the Lee Pot IV with bottom pour and I know the 4/20 has the micro adjustable flow control valve that can be fine-tuned with a screwdriver but I think that's your problem, if it's dripping and you're not getting that drip on the edge of the mold that drip is going in a sprue which is going to mess up your head or collar. Plus if that drip is hitting the bottom plate of the pot stand it's splattering which isn't good. I just poured 200 pony head jigs Sunday night in three sizes and didn't get a single incomplete head or collar and I was using tire weight lead down to 1/32 oz. Are you fluxing your lead?? You really want the lead to stream out as you lift the handle to open the bottom spout. I don't smoke my molds at all I just pour a bunch of blanks (no hook or swivel) until the mold heats up. Just my Fatman
