    Tying help

Go to http://www.kwsu.org/ and download their OMN player and you can download fly tying series The Anglers Art. Usually two or three different flies per show. The first season is not ready for the OMN player yet but you can view them through here http://kwsu.publictelevision.org/stations/kwsu/episodes.asp?eid=12&pid=2. You can also get video's by Al Beatty a well know tyer here http://www.flytyingforum.com/index.php?showtopic=10953&hl=video's You can also take the visual fly tying class's at www.flytyingforum.com For the above two you need to register as a member and it's free. The other one I've used is http://buckeyeflyfishers.com/?B1=HOME a fly club out of Ohio, just go to the fly tying section. There's many more out there and if you look through enough links you'll find many more, but these one's should last you a while. Fatman
  3. Riverrat I'm up in Northfield. I don't know how that stupid rule is going to be enforced lakewide anyway, what about the sections that are allowable to fish with the reciprocating license now?? That kinda throws their new law right in the ####ter don't it They never really think things through. Fatman
  4. I had posted by Mistake over in the Fly Tying section about Lead Substitutes, http://www.tackleunderground.com/forum/showthread.php?t=9187 and received alot of answers but have another one so I moved it over here. Have any of you ever tried a mix of the substitutes??? Like 2/3 tin and 1/3 bismuth??? or if you've tried others could you list them. I've never tried the straight bismuth but have heard it's very brittle. I checked with Lee and was told my Production Pots should not be used for zinc, copper, silver, gold, aluminum, pewter or brass. I don't have too much trouble with jigs as they aren't listed in the ban in Vermont yet, but sinkers are. Split shot I just buy them as it's just too much hassle to worry about. Thanks, Fatman
  5. As mikel7 said it just burns off and then you skim it, one thing I like to do though is depending on the size of the melter you use (I use a Lee Production Pot IV) is get a tin pie plate and use a heavy duty stapler to staple a paint stirring stick on and when melting dead jigs down for repouring I put it over the top just in case of any splatters. If you've ever been burned you know:eek: . After I've melted the heads off I use a piece of steel wool and just clean the top of the hook and check to make sure the eye isn't clogged and after all the hooks are cleaned its pouring time. 6. Crymdawg I've tried the vinyle lure and jig finish and quite truthfully didn't like it. Some brands of grubs reacted and made a mess some didn't. I had to cover it with epoxy to stop the mess. As far as the powder paint goes never mix anything else with the powder process unless it is powder as cadman said. As far as stripping jigs the quickest way I know of is to use a pair of needle nose pliers and dip the head in the melting pot then re-pour it. Other than that using sandpaper, stripper or heat gun is a real pain in the butt and messy as heck. I use some colors of testor's model paint then use a 2 part epoxy to seal and I've never had a problem with it. Hope this helps Fatman
