  1. One didn't sell about 3 weeks ago but i haven't seen it reposted yet - I'll keep an eye out and let you know if I see one.
  2. Finally replaced the Erie Dearie mold I let go many years ago!!
  3. I've used glitters from Tulip, Creatix, Nicole Crafts, Walmart - although the shaker tubes they have are only the larger size glitter for larger heads. the neon sample packs of many colors and i haven't had any melt or bleed. If you buy any of these sampler packs buy at least 3 of each one - nothing worse than running out. I really like the Nicole Crafts glitter I get from AC Moore (like JoAnne's, Michaels and Hobby lobby), their web site is up, but I haven't figured out how to find the glitter yet!! but, I usually stop at the store before the drive home. This is all the tulip, Creatix, and all the sample packs that I got at Michaels. If you start working with mixing powder and glitter, get a whole lot of clear powder paint. You'll go through it faster than you think! I've used stuff from Rosy's, ProTec, Columbia Coatings and Orbit. All work good. No matter what you mix up WRITE DOWN HOW YOU MIXED IT!!!!! I have this color I mixed up and I can't remember how I mixed it
  4. IF you're looking for strictly ball head - Do-It has the Round Socket Eye Jig mold, the collar is exact except theirs is barb up the one you show is barb down. You'd have to mod it to take the angled hook and the weed guard hole, but it would be what you want.
  5. I've done the 1/2 price replacement program from LEE and they didn't fix them they sent me 2 brand new pots!! and it only took about a week. I'm the weird one who always cleans out my pot after every use, I've been doing it for 31 years and it's what I prefer. One thing I've found and I haven't seen anyone say anything about it, is the pour rod inside the LEE pot. I have an old beat up pocket knife and I scraped the rod like I was whittling on a stick. You wouldn't believe how much crap came off the bottom of it and it looked clean. I also do the wire up the spout but I use an old bass jig with the barb cut off and bent into an L shape. There are still old wheel weights out there - I've sat by my mechanics wheel machine and gone through buckets of wheel weights and sorted them. Don't bother anymore as I've gotten through all of them, but got lucky last year when my water tank sprang a big leak. I know the guys from the plumbers shop and when they showed up I was just finishing up pouring. They asked if I'd trade them some jigs - they wanted 1/8th and 1/4th ballheads. Had them bagged up in the house and for 250 of each size I got 500+ lbs. of old pure lead water pipe they had torn out of an old camp!!!!!! Took me over a month to get it all cleaned up and fluxed out.
  6. One of two ways, but FIRST make sure you write down exactly how much of each part you're mixing. You can take a couple of tablespoons of your color, 2 1/2 tablespoons of clear, 1/2 a tablespoon of glitter and mix it up really good. Test paint a couple of heads to see how it's coming out. If it's working good great. If not enough glitter add more, if the glitter is lumpy on the head add more clear, but write down what extra you add. The other way is to mix up 2 tablespoons of clear and put your glitter in it. Dip your head color, rewarm the head and dip in the clear and glitter mix. The reason I stress writing things down is that I made up a really great color and the glitter shines through perfectly and I don't know what I did to mix it!!! I've tried to re-create it and so far no dice. Someone may have a different way but this is how I do it.
  7. The bottom pvc base was glued to a bathroom wall tile with the adhesive Cad recommended!!LOL Would have had to take it off when i switched the fitting anyways so no big deal. The beds work great.
  8. I got my instructions from Cadman and here's what he suggested This was the first brass valve I used in the side of the cup and it worked good. I got a powder cup stuck and trying to get it off the bottom pulled off the base. I decided to switch the brass valve to this one to increase the flow This is the Adhesive he recommended and it works great!! I get the brass fitting in the side of the pvc and before it gets all the way in I put the adhesive around it, and also the inside. I also use it to attach the cup to the base. The air control valves I got at Pet Smart with the rubber hosing, they had a sale going and I got a good break on them. I only use the Y connectors and the white air flow control valves. The Tetra Whisper 60, dual nozzle pump I have lets me run 3 - 2" cups and leaves me plenty of power to run more, so I also got this 3-way valve
  9. You can mix glitter with powder, but if you don't have enough clear the glitter won't show through. This is Dormant Purple from Columbia coatings, you put the base coat on cure for 15 minutes then take it out and put the high gloss clear on then bake another 10 minutes. I mixed them together and cured and got this This is another shade of purple - Candy Raspberry Translucent from Columbia coatings http://www.columbiacoatings.com/store/Search.aspx?SearchTerms=Candy%20Raspberry%20Translucent%20TGIC This is what you get You can also dip the regular color and then dip again in a clear with glitter mix. I get a lot of irridescent glitters from the hobby store and it works good. I've also been mixing super sparkle mica powder in with some of my mix's. This is a metallic purple from Eastwood http://www.eastwood.com/hotcoat-powder-metallic-purple.html
  10. check out the for sale sections on Fly Anglers On line or Fly Tying forum (they also have a companion rod building site),
  11. A picture would help, but go to Crazy Angler Tackle and get bags of dyed mallard flank feathers http://stores.crazyanglertackle.com/mallard-flank/ Even if you only want 5 colors you'll get a good selection of sizes's in each color.
  12. Are you using them on cranks??? I get 1/0 (size 0) from Crazy Angler Tackle - They're listed as Rosco but they're made by Sampo. http://stores.crazyanglertackle.com/split-rings-1/ Haven't had any fail yet. On my Pony and Horsehead jigs I use the German split rings from Hagens for attching blades. Don't need heavy duty for those.
  13. Been pouring since the mid 70's, the lead split shots hate to say went in the mouth and got bitten onto the line. Vermont can't use lead split shot anymore. I have my lead level checked all the time and nothing shows up. Always wash hands using Dawn dish soap in cold water. If I want a smoke (getting way down) or cup of coffee, wash the hands and dry with paper towel. They have all these world class scientists - let them come up with a material with all the characteristics of lead and keep it cheap and I'll switch (they could start out switching it pound for pound with all of us!!LOL), it's all common sense keeping yourself safe while working with lead.
  14. Just make sure you use REAL canning jars!!! Ball jars with the raised letters, or Mason jars with the raised letters - found out the hard way Ball has CRAFT glass jars that won't take the heat of hot water.
  15. Depending on size you could use them for tying jigs as long as the jig head you're tying them on isn't too big, and if real small you could use them for making collars on wet flys. Yes you can dye feathers with kool-aid, you'll have to use white vinegar to set the color. Cherry kool-aid Hawaiian Punch Lemon Lime Splash
  16. Treble hooks take getting used to when tying them.
  17. Here's the color sampler card they sent me a while ago, been trying to get pricing but the lady has never emailed me back, I've also sent emails to their customer service and nothing.
  18. Great deal but make sure there aren't any Zinc ones in the batch. The ones I know of are Z, ZA, Zn - get rid of them!!!
  19. Very easy to use - If you can measure 1/4th of a teaspoon of powder, 2 tablespoons of white vinagar and can boil water you're all set to go!!!
  20. After I got my Veniards dye's I'd been looking for Flourescent Hot Pink! and I finally found it from Anglers Workshop and did up a batch of mallard flank and it came out great!!!!!!!!!!
  21. Musky That's not bad at all for your second treble!!! SJ is spot on, small trebles are bad enough but a 5/0 treble is tough!! It's better to tie in smaller clumps than cramming it in - doing the smaller bunch's will help secure the hair better also. Just take your time and you'll get better. Tying trebles can be hazardous to your fingers!!LOL If it wasn't that you're tying 5/0's I say try some cross cut zonker strips as they're quick and easy.
  22. That vise sure looks like a Peak!! but I'm with SJ, I've heard hook size but never brand - thats a new one
  23. Thanks all - I passed on the info to him.
  24. Make yourself a hand tool - just a couple of nails and an old wood screw driver handle or really hard wood dowell. You'll still have to make the final wrap around the main shaft with needlenose pliers but this simple little hand tool will help a lot. Put your first nail in put a scrap piece of wire next to it and make sure to leave enough room between the two nails to get the wire in and out.
  25. I know Barlows sells 1/8 teflon pins for a FG-30 and a 5/32nd for FG-40 fiber guards, does anyone carry teflon pins for a FG-9 or FG-12 fiber guard??? Have a buddy that has moded a mold for the 9 and 12 fiber guards and was looking for teflon pins.
