  1. This may sound like a dumb question to most of you but here goes. Can you use glass beads in place of the metal ones on Spinnerbaits? Any reasons why the wouldn
  2. Thanks Whiz Jig that was what I was looking for.
  3. Are the SPARKIEs kind of like the Gamakatsu Arky 26?
  4. Is skirtsunlimited.com still around? I went to the site and it doesn't look like a skirt supplier.
  5. Last night I was looking through the Lurecraft catalog and noticed what to me seemed like the same jig but two different names. They are the weedless SPARKIE and the weedless ARKIE. Are they the same just a different maker? Or is the SPARKIE wider?
  6. I just have one question. Would the hats be a deep or large hat? I have a big head and most hats I find are what I call shallow and sit high. They are always felling like they're about to jump off my head. Other than that I want a hat and shirt! My vote is for the "custom lure maker" but I won't complain about "tackleunderground.com" either. Maybe we could look into the "FlexFit" type of hat. It comes in two sizes and fit great. By far the most comfortable hat I've ever worn. I'll try to find out more info on them for you.
  7. What would be the best knot for braided lines? Is there a not that doesn't need superglue to hold it when using braid? Ash
  8. I fish for Largemouth Bass near Greensboro and Lexington, NC. I also fish for whatever down at the mouth of the Little Alligater River on the NC coast.
  9. I would subscribe to a TU magazine. I think that it'd be a good idea. Look at RodMaker. It's a magazine for rod builders and IMHO a great and addicting mag.
  10. I was just at Magic Kingdom on Friday. I kept thinking that it would've been nice to fish around there. Maybe I'll look into next year.
  11. I'm next!!! Hey folks My name is Ashley Carlton (NO! it's not a girls name)or just Ash. I too have heard them all. I'm 32yo I live in Greensboro, North Carolina. I have a wife and three kids, one each of hers, mine, and ours. During the day and here lately evenings I'm a Desginer / CAD administrator. I'm new to making lures. I have several that are in process right now. I am also getting into rod building and just finished refinishing a 1950's era Bamboo boat rod for my dad as a Christmas preasent. Also I'll try to only give advice on things that I know about. Ash
  12. You might want to try your local Prosethics (fake arm and/or legs) office and see if you purchase some from them. Some will let you some won't. Or even try a pottery supplier. I haven't tried pouring soft plastics but I've used a lot of POP and over types of gypsum. Although POP is cheap it's not as strong or long lasting as something like Ultra-CAL. MAN this stuff is strong, but hard to find. Special effects suppliers have it. Ultra-CAL will outlast POP by at least twice as long.
  13. I've pushed the slides in to disengage them, I'd cast after all were in and then I'd push one out and so on. No distance change. The ones that I talked about adjusting were the metal pins that the brakes slide on.
  14. I've only had one other baitcaster a Shakespeare from the mid 80's I think. After I got home yesterday I went out and gave it another once over and about two dozen casts. I started by checking the free spool adjustment knob (for the weight of the lure) and its all the way out and barely being held on by the O-ring. I also checked the cent. braking and I tried casting with one brake, then two, and so on until all six were engaged. Yes I did get a few backlashes but my distance didn't seem effected by that. I did notice that after checking the brakes once that a couple of the little pins that the brake slides on seemed out of alignment. A couple of them were sticking out further than the others and a couple were pushed in. After I adjusted the pins so that they were all in alignment I casted a few more times. More backlashes but I think that they were mostly because I didn't use my thumb enough. That's when the wife called for supper. I think that I'll try again tonight but with different weights and see if that has anything to do with it. I'm also calling BPS and see if they can help. Thanks for the help guys!
  15. Thanks for all the help guys! As for the reel it's been as quiet as a church mouse. It makes no noise on retrieve that I can hear. The handle is solid and doesn't wobble. Maybe I should start looking for a reel mechanic. This is just they way its been since it was new. I still would like to get another reel though. You can't bass fish with just one baitcaster and one spinning reel.
  16. I'm currently using a Bass Pro baitcaster (Rick Clunn Series) which I received as a gift and I'm looking to get another reel. I'd like to get something that I can more easily take care of as well as upgrade in the future. I've seen models like Diawa, Penn, Shimano, etc. on sites like Smoothdrag and others. The problem I have with my reel is distance or lack there of. I think that I'm only able to cast a 1/4 oz. (I think that's right) practice plug about 40 ft. with a 6ft 6in rod. That's with only two brakes engaged. Any suggestions?
  17. Duplicolor makes a flip-flop paint system in rattle cans and I've used it to paint other items not lures but it should work. http://http://www.duplicolor.com/products/mirage.html It looks real good when finished.
  18. I would actually go for a gravity fed model like the hp-cs. That way you'll be able to use less paint. If you are painting several at one time that no big deal just squirt more paint in it. That way when you're done painting you won't have left over paint in the bottom of you jar that is wasted. Just a thought.
  19. Please note that I have NO soft plastic pouring experience, BUT I do have mold making experience. I've made molds for miniatures for a while. I think that if you use GI1000 and your plastic doesn't get hotter than 400 degrees (if I remember correctly) you shouldn't have a problem, or you could go with the high temp stuff for more cost. Plus it will pick up more detail than you'll ever need. I've had models of knights that were 1 inch tall and GI1000 will pick up the detail of the hair sculpted on their heads. Also I don't put mine in a vacuum. I set the pour box on the bench and pour from about 18-24 inches and since with GI1000 you can get an almost hair thin stream from the pouring vessle it haven't had any problems with air bubbles.

    bulk devcon?

I found some at my local idustrial supply house (MSC). It comes in two 4.5 oz bottles for about $15.
  21. I searched online for propionate and founfd nothing but testosterone (sp?) related results. I think I'll try to use polystyrene pellets (not foam) when I get to that stage of making my first bait.
  22. Hello this is my first post here. I have a few questions on how to begin making my own crankbaits. Where can I find some how-to's? Is basswood good to begin with? I appreciate any help that you guys can give. Ash
