  1. I have mixed a lot of the colors and rather than try to get a specific color, I keep record of the ratio/% and then have a fair chance of duplicating if I want to later. It takes some patience because it looks one color in raw form, another when painted and a lot of times even more different if you cure. I have had excellent success with the glitters and have even mixed glitters in with some clear and put on as a top coat. When I get a color I like I just call it whatever it appears to me and mark that as my color on the bottle and in the record diary. I have also tried adding pigments to the powder with some success. A little goes a long way. If I want to add more powder in a mix without adding color, I use the clear. I get the powder but not more color. I just enjoy the experimentation and the unique colors I get by mixing.
  2. yes, afraid it does. Takes some work but material is free. Can heat with heat gun and bend or dimple, etc.
  3. anyone want an 18" worm mold. It is a pour/silicone mold. I used to use back 100 yrs ago when was fishing the tourneys and fish were in their spawn. Don't do that anymore and usually buy plastics instead of making them. ws
  4. anyone interested it getting a lot of old cd's for making lure lips? If so, send me a pm and will work out something. I trash several hundred cd's each semester. w
  5. I would take a screen shot of it, save it as a jpg file, and attach as a pic.
  6. The marketing "experts" decide where or what to sell and their criteria is only to maximize sales. Can hardly blame them because they are trying to increase bottom line. I have tried a lot of things over the years that have caught fish but would probably not sell well due to not being painted fancy or not perceived as a viable lure. I think that most open minded and creative fishermen are always thinking outside the normal parameters. I see that here in hundreds of posts daily. I know there are many items that are sold which may only catch a fish if the fish is so aggressive that it would bite on anything. They were designed to catch fishermen and not necessarily fish. There are however true well designed lures with great quality and do catch fish. The advantage that people in this forum have over others is most want to experiment and make items that are their own design and idea and will catch fish. Many have said that it is a great feeling to make something different and go catch fish with it. I was making fishing equipment before I started school that caught fish and still get satisfaction from modifications of most everything I use. Seldom do I use anything as it comes out of the box.
  7. Mike, This is a great post with invaluable instruction. I have tried this with several ideas of mine and works great. Dunno about bondo...know that on cars and such it has tendency to break up over exposure to heat and cold from the weather and can only be suspect concerning 550
  8. Thanks Bob, Will give those a try. Appreciate the quick reply. w
  9. After searching prior posts, I am forced to ask if anyone uses or has source for stick on weights? Thanks
  10. it really is an interesting concept. Sorry I cannot take credit for the idea. Some years back I had a lure similar to this except it was a floater with a bill, so I tried this with a regular rattletrap type lure and enjoying the benefits. I tried altering baits that I was OK if it was a dud, of course. My only drawback on the first couple of hybrids was the rattle was in the nose and my bill made the rattle go away. Had to insert worm type rattle in body. ws
  11. Ditto on previous posts. Go small and smaller, slow and slower. Small baits and line. Presentation slow and when u think it is slow, slow down more.
  12. couple of pics but not the best quality. Is first of new semester and did it from work with limited resources. Will post more pics when have some better and also pics of fish caught with details.
  13. read thread about using spike-it blade dip to color hooks and was good idea. Anyone tried using powder paint to color hooks?
  14. Hello fellow dutchman, I believe I would go to stratosboats.com and send inquiry via the contact us email link. Have discovered that dealing with the info people is much quicker than the customer service and/or sales after you already made the purchase. w
  15. Anyone experimented with adding a lip to rattletrap type lure? I have tried and it is interesting for sure. would not want to use in shallows as it tends to immediately go deep unless you move it very fast and hold rod high. But, as it is with any alteration or hybrid bait which you catch something on, gives you a feeling of satisfaction. w
  16. ditto to what ledhed says... the cheaper the lead, the more impurities(slag), just scrape off and place in dry container that will not burn. I melt a lot of lead at a time and pour into ingots to be used later. I have to deal with lots of slag at first but next time it is only minimal.
  17. Tks PC....will give that a whirl...have a couple of the molds u r talking about....I used to be at the u of KY and had a friend in the engineering lab that made custom molds for me. Boy, was that a pleasure. I was in hog fishing heaven. He made me at least 10 custom molds and have used them to catch lots of species over the yrs.
  18. Anyone tried the new terminator spinner/buzz bait. I have just received a couple but not tried yet. Terminator lures has now been bought by Rapala. The new type blade seems like a compromise of spinner and buzz but may be very interesting in lots of areas. ward
  19. Thanks Chuck, Considered that but was looking for quick fix.
  20. any one have a good source of large tail spinner baits...at least a 1 oz . Little George or similar. would rather have the tail hummer or something more vibrating than the L. george. I have molds but only go up to 34 oz and would like to even go to 1
