  1. Hi all So far I've only painted wooden baits with no problems so this probably sounds too obvious to many of you. I apologise for that. A friend gave me some plastic blanks to paint and to be honest I just realised I had never painted a clear plastic bait, hence the following question: What preparation of the plastic body is required to obtain the best result. I use acrylic, oil based and automotive paints in my baits. Do I need to use any solvents or clean the bodies in any particular way in order to obtain the best possible adherence? thanks Greetings from Oz Beto
  2. Thank you all for your answers. I will try and let you know the results. Thanks again for your advise. Beto
  3. Hi All Is there any way to measure the exact amount of D2t to be applied to a blank? i.e. if the blank weights "X" (oz, gr, etc) and I have 5 blanks to coat, how much epoxy should I mix? or is it better to mix enough epoxy for one blank only? If doing so, is there any rough proportion between the weight of the blank and the amount of epoxy to use? Sorry if the question seem to basic, but I'm just starting out using epoxy as coating. greetings from OZ Beto

    Rc 2.5 5

Hi Mark I think the way you've provided your answer is terrific! I bet I'm not the only novice that sees a work of art in this site and tries to find out what colors were used and in what order. I wish all of you "masters of this art" could indicate and share details like this. Thank you for sharing. Greetings from Oz Humberto
  5. That is an excellent job. Please let us know how you achieve that spotted pattern. Greeting from Oz Humberto

    Rapiotail

Hi Bjorck Congratulations, that is an excellent job!!! Just a couple of questions: How do you attach the tail to the body? Did you consider a way to replace it in case it gets bitten off? greetings from Oz Humberto

  10. Hi Pete Thanks a lot for that. One of the suppliers is actually in the next suburb from where I work. Some others are also nearby, so I will pay them a visit on the weekend. Thank you again Humberto
  11. Hi troutgnat One material I found quite easy to work with is Masking tape. This tape has a mild glue that makes it easily removable after you are done with it. You can make patterns for rounded body cranckbaits, stick it on, paint and then remove it (carefully) and re-use it. It comes in different widths. You can also use self adhesive paper (used for labels). The main advantage of this material is that you can design your pattern in your computer an print it directly to the sheet, then use your Xacto knife to cut your pattern and that's it! Hope this helps Greetings from Oz Humberto
  12. Hi Guys Thanks a lot for your input. I'll try both sources and hopefully post a nice looking D2T coated lure here. Cheers Humberto
  13. G'day to all Does anybody know if Devcon 2T is available in Oz. I've looked in their Oz website but I couldn't find the product. Is it sold under another name? Are there any alternatives that would deliver the same results? I've tried automotive clear coating but it blistered my paint job ...I almost died!! I want to stick to some already proven methods. I've seen some amazing work in this website and I think that trying to imitate these artists' work is just like a humble tribute to them. Any ideas Greetings from Oz Humberto
  14. Hi all This is a very interesting topic. I'm very new to this art ....yes ART you guys are real artists. Although I still prefer to make my lures by hand, I'm also involved in 3D modelling due to my work in design for the lighting industry here in Australia. Just wanted to make you all aware (if you are not already) of rapid prototyping companies. Recently we were developing a new product and we've came across several companies that specialise in doing exactly what you require, a prototype or even small runs. If you are interested in developing say a mold for a plastic bait you want to make in mass, they are the ones to approach, you can even get quotes online by just uploading your file. Here are a couple of links you might find useful:http:///www.formero.com.au/ http://www.rapidpro.com.au Hope this help Greetings from Oz Humberto

    Balsa Pattern

Hi, I also use the photo printing and paper template. I usually print to self adhesive paper (the one used for labels), then I cut my template with scissors and stick it on to the timber. Using this method I don't have to actually trace the outline of the bait. Hope this helps Greetings from Oz Beto
  16. What could be more rewarding than that fish striking while you filmed your demo video. Congratulations!! By the way the baits look really awesome. Greetings from Oz. Beto

  19. Hi all This is the first time I post/reply to something in this website. Thanks to all for your magnificent work. I get involved with industrial powder painting through my work and the way I've seen it done is by having the powder in suspension inside the containers. In other words the powder is not just sitting in the jar/container, there is a jet of air constantly blowing over it and keeping in it agitated, also in the industrial process the aspiration is not from the bottom of the container but from the top, maybe removing the tube in your air brush and adding some air to the jar could do the job. greetings from oz Beto
