Merry Christmas from the other side of Lake St. Clair
  2. That's awesome! Way to follow your dream. Hoping for the best for you
  3. I mostly go between here and ohiogamefishing
  4. Holy crap the search function posse is gathering as we speak. Lol Welcome to the board and welcome to the addiction. As far as where to get supplies lurepartsonline is a good place to start. There are other stores out there also. Depending on what you are planning to make you may be able to get your wood at a big box store. Alot of guys build out of cedar. You are going to want to pick up an airbrush and an air compressor if you dont have one. You can get the Iwata Neo at Hobby Lobby for a good price using thier 40% off 1 item coupon. Hope that helps
  5. I run my airbrush at 25-30 psi. Shrink tubing is really good for making stencils. Get it big enough, shrink it around your lure and cut features you want. The cut it in half to make it easier to use. Beware, the search function mob will be here shortly..........
  6. I totally disagree. Why not shorten the learning curve for a new builder? Why is it so f'n important that everybody "pay their dues?" Really? Since you took the time to work something out, you don't want to share it because you feel that other people should have to put the time in? Then don't share it. I have gotten alot of help from this site and because I am not a very established builder I don't say much for fear of leading someone down the wrong road. Once I am as good as alot of guys on here I will happily pass info on. Its like the search function police around here. If you see a clearcoat or a diving lip post thats been discussed 1000 times don't click on it. Think about it. If you can repond to a question that makes some builders 3 or 4 hours a week shop time more productive why not? How petty to complain about it because you feel that everyone should "put their time in"
  7. Hey all- I'm looking for some ideas for storing baits during the painting and finishing process. Sometimes there is a lag time between turning, priming and painting. During that time I may do a different project in the shop. Ideally it would be enclosed to prevent any dust getting on the baits. I do all my building and painting in the same shop. I make musky lures that are 6-8 inches long. I'm hoping to find a way to simply and cheaply do this. Thanks in advance for any ideas or suggestions
  8. I use a lathe with a General duplicator. Would love to find a system that banged them out faster
  9. omg what is that?????? Must have one.......
  10. Hey Mike, I use a lathe with a duplicator attached. It works as far as getting the plug to a rough shape. It still requires some significant sanding and the cutter does not duplicate quite as fast as I would have liked. I still end up having to use calipers to make sure I don't sand too far. I would love to find a way to make them faster without taking a second mortgage but I haven't. I also made a homemade pentograph that works with a router but I found it nearly impossible to keep the workpiece clamped up when the router hit it. Hope this helps.
