Tried the devcon for a top coat for the first time a few days ago.Well, the first batch was unbelievable,no bubbles, clean slick hard finish.Tried a few more the next day and had small air bubbles on two of them.I mixed it the same way and put it on with the same type brush. They still look great, you have to hold it under a light to see them(as my wife would say...there goes your OCD kickin in). Also,I used cheap art brushes like some have recommended and had trouble several times with hair fibers coming off and into finish.Seen them all but one in time to get them out.Are the flux brushes or other type brushes any better?I also fanned the brush real good before I started....Robert P.S.I just about lost it while this site was down.Couldn't find another "fix" as good as TU.

Are you talking about rattle can spray paint? I use the RC's and would love to be able to do that. Would you care to elaborate on the method you used?...Robert

I've had real good luck sanding with 220 and applying white krylon fusion. On some I take all the paint and on some I just sand. The fusion bonds to the plastic or sanded paint very well....Robert

Don't know if you can buy it local, but at the top of the screen there is usually a banner to click on and the info is there.

Can anyone tell me the name of this lure and date made, value? It has a little weed guard( I guess) on the bill.My daughters fiance's granddad past away and he got his tackle. He doesn't want to sell any, just curious. It may not be old at all...Robert

Since I do my (Luring) at work would Dicknights be better than Devcon, can't you just dip it in the DN instead of the mixing and brushing ? I have got some guys here that want me to do some repaints for them and I don't know how the Krylon Clear Glaze top coat I use will hold up,so I want to go with something different...Robert

Welcome to TU,one of the best past times I have ever had.You will not find a better or more knowlegable(spelling?) group of guys than right here.Tell family and friends goodbye, for a new you is about to be born...one that looks at everything and thinks how can that help me in carving or painting lures... one whos every thought is about making lures or getting on here to see what someone else has made or trick they have discovered. The most fun a man can have with his clothes on.Hope the ideas/designs work out for you...Robert

Croixboy, all I am doing right now are repaints and I either lightly sand or take off all the paint depending on how bad the old paint is,you want a smooth surface to start with.Don't use a knife it will gouge in the plastic or wood, use 220 sandpaper or finer.I am doing some now for a guy who tried to get paint off with a knife and I had to get down to bare lure and start.I use rattle cans and start with Krylon Fusion in white.I then spray my colors and details.I top coat with Krylon Clear Glaze. You can do some really good work with rattle cans if you take your time(of course not as good as airbrush).I use the better paint from Wal Mart, not the cheaper stuff.I found out it does not give a good a job as the other.Hope this helps...Robert

Luckycraft(and i'm sure other co.'s) has some lures with matte finish bills. On a few of my repaints I forgot to tape bill before I sanded the bait body(really bright)so I just sanded the entire bill very lightly, just enough to get the shine off,and I kinda like the results. They look just like the LC's.Does anyone have an oppinion on whether it affects the performance of the lure or its appeal to the fish.It seems like even though the bills are clear they would have a bit if reflection to them.Don't know if the matte look would make the bait appear larger or smaller, what cha think guys...Rob

That's a great idea Yake Bait.I'll bring the old Dewalt to work and give it a go.Didn't someone say when you mix it,it will have some bubbles but they will go away when you brush it on?

The idea I got from here to use the pvc pipe to test colors on is great,it serves me especially well being I am limited to colors.I have tested putting down one color and then another light coat of a different color to get colors I can't buy,i.e. brown over green = RC Rootbeer, brown over red = RC Craw)rust or burnt orange etc.Anyone have any more mixes I could do with the rattle cans to get odd colors...Rattle Can Rob Oh, and I think I will try Blue Gill today, man thats going to be a trick.

What is the method or time table to turn lures if I use devcon but don't have a turner yet? Also, on the baits I have finished I used Krylon Clear Glaze, when I get a turner or get the hang of the devcon can I put the devcon directly over the clear glaze and would the clear glaze be ok to put on between colors (which doesn't really matter, if I mess up I can't wash this off like water base paints)and finalize with the devcon for top coat. Man I got to get me one of those turner thingies(hmmmm, lets see,my birthday is in Nov. and then Christmas,I know these great guys on here will get me one,but thats so long to wait)oh,oh I am mumbling to my self, anyway thanks in advance for the tips on devcon...Rattle Can Rob

Oh Dean you are making me sick with all that....She got a sister? No, I can say that I will never figure them women out, they drive me crazy at times, they cost me lots of money, but I love em,but by no means do I want another one.Theres a local tourny fisherman that use to fish the guys and dolls tournys around here with his wife.I saw them at Wal Mart one day and she was pondering over what color worms she needed. And I thought...I gotta have me one of them,a woman as eager as I am to get to the fishing section. The only reason my wife looks forward to going to the Nashville Bass Pro Shop is she knows she will get a couple of nights away from home and go shopping at Cool Springs Mall.

My wife and daughter think I have lost my mind over this website and painting lures.Last night my daughter wanted to see what you guys posted about my repaints with rattle cans. She thought it was so funny that we all talk like we know each other,so she told my wife to read the replys. After she read that beezerbassman posted on my "sexy shad"" color and that his paint booth was "easy" to move, this is what she said. Are you sure that some of you guys aren't a little "too" friendly and want each other to read between the lines of "sexy" and "easy".Now that I read the post on the Browneye color,I just hope she doesnt see that one.My wife was joking of course and was just ribbing me a little to amuse my daughter, she knows this hobby is alot better than the one I had when I was younger and dumber(drinking and acting like a moron, although it might cost as much in the long run)Women just don't get it,we could be doing alot worse on some other websites. My daughter is a young mother and is a member of Cafe Mom website, but doesn't think that is the same....man, she is just like her mother.Just thought you might like to hear what I have to put up with, but I love them both dearly....Robert P.S. My grandbaby is a girl....Oh no, not another one.Maybe she will be like her dad,he likes to fish.

Brown Eye!!!! Hmmmm lets see....That has to be a "butt" ugly color,no pun intended,Just joking,I couldn't resist. Can't wait to see what The Rookie will have for this one.Sorry, I know I was'nt much help.I must have just been the first one to see this...Robert

Right now all I am doing is repaints and I use rattle cans and use Krylon Fusion white. Then I start with the color I want under the scales or the belly to be.If I want the belly to be white I just use the already applied Fusion for it.I think some guys that airbrush also use the Fusion, because it will adhere very well to most surfaces. The Fusion comes in different colors also...Robert

Is it just me or is anyone having trouble pulling up pics in the gallery? When I look at a pic that has additional pics below it I can't get them to enlarge. It says loading, but I get nothing.I don't have any trouble when uploading from main gallery, just when someone has more than one.It also won't work if I click on thumbnail but it will if I click on information,in a specific persons gallery....Robert

If Vodkaman can explain vortex's while drinking or smelling vodka for that matter,he is a better man than I.I barley can spell it and I am sober as a judge.Don't know if judge was a good example though...Robert

Thanks guys,I appreciate the good comments.I also thought they were pretty good for what I had to work with.I will be checking at hobby lobby for that 40% off when I get a place to airbrush.I already have a few guys wanting me to do some repaints for them.Right now I am just having fun with this, but I would love to be able to do what some of you do and make a little money on the side.Who knows I might not be able to use an airbrush worth a flip...Robert

Just wondering FF,what kind of camera do you use to get those great pics.I am still trying to take good clear pics.I have a cheapo digital that I carry around with me.The wife has a better one, but(you know the rest). Next time I am going to try it outside....Robert

I am currently using Krylon Clear Glaze for a top coat,as someone on here suggested.Don't know how tough it will be but I think it looks pretty good(as if the fish care about the shine).Does anyone know if this stuff is harmful.I usually spray in the "paint room", step out and close the door with the fan running, you think i'll be ok.If anyone knows a different clear I could use please post it.I really can't do the Devcon, because I don't have enough space and drying wheel....Robert
