  1. Does anyone know where to buy Helin Flatfish blank lures other than Lure Parts Online.
  2. W hy don't we just drop this it's going knowwhere...........lets cool off !! ...or as the younger ones say chill
  3. I must say I have to give a little more thought, I am about to send out to 50 shops some advertising I have one that is reordering from me now, I think I will just start with hopeing to get 5 to 10 more shops. I just can't get to far ahead of myself waiting for payment. My pockets are not that deep. I have a 5 year plan if it works my son and grandson can have it. As far as the youngster wanting to start a business go to the library and read about starting up a business. Talk to anyone that will lsten and ask questions, start slow and remember that when you are making a lure you are not fishing. What do you want to do, good luck.
  4. Theres so much on this stuff do you also dip the bills along with the lure in other words the whole lure.
  5. Years ago a when I jig fished with a friend of mine (now passed away) we would each use a different color same weight but different retrieve when one would start to catch fish the other one would change to that jig. The one would keep catching fish even when we changed from front to back same side same jig. Sometimes he cought them and sometimes I would, so in my thoughts I belive all of it matters color, presentation and yes the sent of my hands, I don't think we will ever figure it out until we can actully talk to them someday maybe, the fish that is.
  6. I turn down a lot of cedar and I just leave enough on the rough so I can sand it down at a higher speed, I start to sand with 50 to 80 grit and end up with 120. I have it figured out so I stay + - .015. Where the most problem is, is at the tip of grains I just sand out the chipouts.
  7. Thanks smalljaw. I have been thinking of the CSI UV. Will we ever be happy with a top coat. One more question for someone is the Alumalite UV worm proof?
  8. Has anyone used this new Alumalite UV on spinnerbaits Plus how well does Solarez hold up on the spinnerbaits?
  9. I turn down musky lures and smaller down to 3" with no problem with the Vega, I have been using it for years. Wayne

Anglinarcher You answered well Thank You. I will, like I said after the first of the year I will order a small bottle, The biggest problem is the price, but that will come down in time. The more lure makers use it the more we will find about it. Again Thanks Wayne
  11. Bigcrew Could you give us a place where you seen these prices I would like to check it out. Wayne

Anglinarcher After the New Year I will order some and see for myself. One of the draw backs for me is that it takes too long to cure Etex and in the more humid summer it is worse since I do this in my basement and use a hot box to help it cure. The room that I was going use to make a new box can be made into a UV box instead and quickly be ready for the hooks. One more question is it still a epoxy coating. Thanks Wayne
  13. Why not make the lure to fit the standard lips that are out there www.metalworksstamping.com Dale Wehman is a great guy to work with. cbcustomlips@yahoo.com they make to want you want.

#1 How would compare it to Etex #2 Will it be as glossy as Etex and have the same look as far as depth on lure and would it hold up to that toothy monster MR Musky.
  15. One way that I do my musky baits is that I hang them from the lip and put a screw on the tail end to let the epoxy travel past the lure end, then with a little care in cutting a little of the epoxy from the lure after I remove the screw. Works for me.
  16. Since I retired this is the perfect hobby for me. I enjoy fishing and since I started to make lures its harder to find time to fish, sure I dreamed of making a business out of this but it is just going to be something that I will end up passing on to my son or grandsons, let them go and have fun their the ones that have alot of time ahead of them. I really like the challenge of making the lure work and then catch some fish with that lure. Getting into business is not going to be easy and from what everyone has said so far backs that up. If you want to get into business go slow till you find out want you really want to do and do it well, from one lure you just might get into fly fishing. I started with jigs twenty years ago for fun and now I am making musky lures, right now I will be happy to pay for two trips a year and keep my boat full of gas, for me that is a successfull business. Good Luck.
  17. I also am trying to start up a lure business, I started 5 years ago when I retired and I also had the same thoughts as you, cranks, spinnerbaits etc. stick to one lure make it the best you can. If its good they will buy. Now you just have to promote it to a bunch of guys that have $100.00s of dollars in their tackel box and have only 5 lures that they go to, now if you can make one of the ones they go to then you got a winner. Start Small and keep it simple (KISS). I have done flea markets which I like but a losing deal, but I just like talking to the guys and get their input. Web site again (KISS). I would not worry about patents, unless you just won the lottery it takes money and stay away from those TV ads for patents they just want your money. If you think you have something good then just look in the catalogs and take a look at your competition they all look pretty dam good. All said don't give up on your dreams if you don't it will bug you all your life. Do get it out of you system and enjoy fishing. REMEMBER THIS "one does not know how close they were to success when they gave up" GOOD LUCK an the best to you and your venture. WOW I don't belive I said all that. Wayne
  18. Need Feedback On New Lure Pattern Started by mdojet, Jul 09 2014 11:26 PM It is locked but you can bring up the picture and see the tape job, pretty good I say. Wayne
  19. I am just wondering how, in a question by mdojet on fish pattern, how he did the tapeing of the bill. It really looks really clean I have yet to see one that clean. Wayne By the way the lure looked great mdojet.
  20. Thanks Guys, I am thinking of making them out of dowels and flaten one side and place a 3D eye on it. I'll have waste but I need something to hold on to, if this does'nt work then just go back and drill out and 3D them, I just wanted something different. Although I could make a mold and foam the lure, or cast them out of plastic and glue them into a drilled hole. I think I am over doing it. Wayne
  21. Need a little help, I want to make some frog eyes on a jitterbug type of lure, but I want the eyes popping out of the body up front looking forward. I looked around and strained my brain and can't seem to make one to my liking, any ideas, or maybe where to buy, not doll eyes. I started with a wood dowel looks like crap. Wayne
  22. I have a small amount that is still good but most of the can got hard because I had a leak in the seal. I am thinking about getting some or using spar varnish on top water musky lures. Its a jitterbug type and I dont want to weigh it down with etex, I just sprayed on some etex and will see tomorrow how it is, but have to ware a mask, I would rather dip. Anybody use the hardner on cedar and then sand, I just put to much into making it look good the grain on cedar sucks. I wish there was a product like etex that you could just open dip and close with the same results of etex. Wayne
  23. Any thoughts on GARCO I liked it but have not tried it on small wood baits, I use etex on my musky baits. Wayne
  24. When I turn a piece of wood on my lathe I used to have two pieces of sandpaper one 80 grit and a120 grit always sand with one and then pick up the 120 for finish, now maybe this was brought up somewhere before but I take a full sheet of sandpaper and spray adhesive the sides of both the 80 and 120 and stick together and then cut into strips, 80 grit on one side and 120 on the other just flip and sand. Works great, plus it makes it thicker and stronger, do any grit you want. Wayne
  25. One must remember that this lure was painted three months ago before using for a good curing time. Great looking lure. Wayne
