  1. While this is working for me if dipped does it clear the lips up, some come in cloudy to start with. Wayne
  2. Maybe I should make myself clearer laying a plastic worm over the lure in the heat of the day, I had lures eat into the top coat sometimes of some lures. Wayne
  3. Well sometimes the plastic melts into the lure in the heat of the day. Wayne
  4. Will the soft temper wire hold up to a rotating head musky lure, I use .061 now but bending for the final loop is hard to do but I get it done. So the question is what temper would you use inplace of the SS .061 to make bending a little easer. Wayne
  5. I think I will stay with E-Tex for my wood lures. Wayne
  6. Why not denatured alcohol it seems a lot safer then acetone Wayne
  7. Well then go for it and be safe. The older I get the more careful I get. Wayne
  8. Try Garco, Etex and other brands of epoxy, I just don't like what I see. You can even use the polyacrylics water base. Its your health so use whatever you want I am just bringing you what the MSDA sheet said. All of the top coats have some sort of a health issue just try to use the what is best for you and the lure. Wayne
  9. I would stay away from this stuff, while it is used outside on bricks, I don't think this would be safe in close quarters like most of us paint and top coat our lures. MSDS sheet http://artcrete1.squarespace.com/storage/catalog/msds_faux-brick_as3000_sealer.pdf There is safer top coats and sealers than this. Plus it has a low flash point. WAyne
  10. BobP Could we turn the can or jar over and tap from the bottom. It seems that we will seal it perfectly with a shot of bloxgen, and if we solder a valve on the top which will be the bottom, air will never reach the surface of the DN or garco, then you just open the valve when on top and give it a shot of bloxgen and turn over again. I am just starting to do some bass lures and deciding which coating I want to use, I coat my musky lures with E-tex. WAyne
  11. What about that Garco stuff I know some were trying it out. Any results. Wayne
  12. Ben Not a crazy idea, while watching TV last night I came up with a way to do this. I am going to use a magnet that I have for my table saw to hold the hose and then can be removed when not needed. I will post a picture hopefully later today. I was looking for a more inclosed way but this should work. Thanks Wayne I mentioned a awile back about turning PVC it turned nice but when I got down to 3/4" I could snap it in half easy, so not so good for lures on the smaller size.
  13. Has anyone made a vacumm system for their wood lathe. I am about to make something to suck up the chips from turning down my lures. I have a jet vacumm, but I would like to enclose my work, I use a Vega duplicator and turn alot of maple. Maybe some of you guys can give me a idea before I start and save me some time. If you have a picture that would really be helpful. Thanks Wayne
  14. Something that I came up with if you are sandind rounded ends of the lure, this works better on musky lures like gliders. I cut one of those tubes that you have for the kids to play with in the pool, I think they call them noodles different colors, I cut them in half, they have a hole in the center and you end up with half circles which I use some spray addheasive and place some sand paper into it making a nice concave sanding block. They have different size holes you just have to look at different stores for different sizes. Wayne
  15. How come I have 0 warning under my name did I almost or do something wrong. Wayne ravenlures
  16. Why not complete a lure with all the coatings of whatever you use DN, E-tex then make a stencil so that when you form it it will be just the right tightness. That way it should be loose on just the painted lure, or am I just barking up the wrong tree. Wayne
  17. If you want to start airbrushing try this, go to Harbor Freight and get their airbrush, then go to Hobby Lobby for one bottle of airbrush paint and start there, and after you know what you want to do and how to do it get a good airbrush to meet your needs. I went through it all and wasted money Plus ask any question on this site and you will get as always a good answer. I am still learning but information is always here, the guys are great. Wayne
  18. Has anyone ever used the Minwax Wood Finish Penetrating Stain And Sealer. I used it on maple and depends how long you leave it it soaks in. I dry it off and let it hang a day or so. It seems better than mixing 50/50 varnish and mineral sperits. Wayne
  19. I just started trying out mixing Bombay india ink with some Anita's White Metallic craft paint. It seems that you can come up with all the colors in pearl that you want. I did premix the white first. I wll be using on wood and plastic lures. I also wonder if anyone used the bombay by itself. It is thin. The ink was only $3.99 at Hobby Lobby and you only need a small amount. I would also think that airbrush paint Pearl White would be better to use. Any thoughts on this. Thanks Wayne
  20. Thanks that answer my question. Wayne
  21. Has anyone ever had a Lee Melting Pot reconditioned. They say any condition and half the price of a new one plus S & H. Wayne www.leeprecision.com
  22. Thanks I will try it out, all my bucktails are pre dyed and just want add some stripes, I guess more for me than the fish. Thanks Wayne
  23. I am interested in painting some bucktail hair, what type of paint do you use. Would like to put some stripes on them, and how long do they hold up. Wayne
