  1. Has anyone done any pad stamping on their lures for logos or designs. If so how did it work for you? Was it worth it?
  2. But have we really answered the question. Catch the fisherman or the fish? A cousin of mine a long time ago, he was in marketing, said 5% into the product 40% into the packaging. If true then put your lure into a package with no printing on it, just the price, and let the lure sell itself......or pretty it up with a colorful package and see what sells. I say we have to catch the fisherman first then let the lure sell itself. If worthy it will sell.
  3. First you must catch the fisherman. He is the one that will be throwing that lure out there. Certain lures are a favorite because a lot of fishermen are fishing that particular lure, the longer it is in the water the more fish it will catch. Now for the one that makes lures for himself I bet that he creates a pattern or a type of lure that he always will go back to. Its his choice. Its that old favorite in the box that is always in the water the most.
  4. I'll be very appreciable of seeing it also. Thanks
  5. Thanks guys for the info. I will get back as soon as I do some modifications to the whole lure. Again thanks.
  6. I am fishing for muskies but if a bass comes along i'll take it. I just bend the wire with pliers make a loop then make the eye twist. Sometimes I reverse the twisting but it just takes too long, and hard to do. I am using .051 SS wire, maybe .040 wire will work. But not sure if strong enough. Sorry no pictures my son has my camera now. I do not use a wire form. The lure is drilled and then the hangar holes are drilled then sending .062 wire through and hooking the loop as it goes through, then epoxied in. I am sure it will be strong but just takes too long. I want to make 15 lures at a time. Thanks Vodkaman and Rayburn Guy I looked up the barrel twist but no pictures come up.
  7. Its a 8" X 1 1/8 diameter walk the dog style made of basswood with two belly hooks and a tail hook. Belly hooks are front 2/0 and 3/0 the second and tail hook.
  8. How do you guys make a hook hangar for wire through lures. It seems that I spend too much time on bending mine. They are only about 3/4" long for a slide through wire. I don't cut a line down the center of the lure just have a hole down the center, then drill two holes for the hook hangars to attach to the wire then epoxy them in. I would like to do them faster. I just put together one with a crane swivel and waiting for epoxy to cure. Will the swivel be strong enough, using a 1/0 size. Any help is always appreciated. Thanks
  9. Thanks that is my choice I never used White Cedar and don't like Red Cedar, so for me its Basswood for surface and I like to use Maple for some deep divers. I was just looking for other choices. I guess stick what works for you.
  10. Does anyone use White Cedar in making their plugs. And how does it compare to Red Cedar and Basswood. Thanks

  12. Please let me know if it works. Thanks
  13. Had the same problem, now I just use a large needle on my air brush and it does'nt take that much longer but does need two coats.
  14. I have noticed that in the lure pictures that have been posted, which are excelent, and the painting around the bills is just great, so here is my problem, I want to do many of the same lure but taping takes to long around the lure and with poor results. Do any of you use liquid mask or just use a hand held mask cut from index or vinyl and then just airbrush, or after just put a clear epoxy around the bill. I am useing a metal bill on a wood muski lure. I cannot put the bill on last the way this bill goes in is into a slot then screwed in and epoxied over the screw holes making it look like a plastic lure. Thanks for any help.
  15. Try this out Sanding drums from SEYCO I don't have the site address but just google in SEYCO. They make a drum that fits in your drill press. Works great fof me. SEYCO P.O. Box 1900 Rockwell, TX 75087 972-771-6049 Crazywaynee

  18. Now thats what I am talking about, I you guys come up with a answer. I always sand till it is just the hole showing I will try feathering it, Don't know why I didn't think of that. Thanks a great deal. Wayne
  19. Thanks Craig but I do it the same way iot just seems that the filler is always below the surface of the lure. Maybe I just have to add more coats to level it off. Thanks
  20. I call it a dimple. Where I drill the hole for belly weight and fill it seems to sink below the wood leaving a dimple in the body, which I must keep filling and sanding. wayne
  21. Has anyone tried Seal Coat from Component Systems. I like it, easy to use it is water base, worm proof and crystal clear. Dip or spray. A little pricy but I like it. You can get from luresonline or stamina same place. crazywaynee
  22. I always seem to have a problem with belly weight dimples that require a lot of filling and sanding. Is there a better way or what do you do to fill them in. I am working with maple wood or cedar at times. I know you guys out there have the answer. crazywaynee
  23. Don't worry about taxes first get the business. Like the rest said it will be hard, so don't quit your day job. I am retired now and I sell what I make at flea markets, I like that better I plan on doing about 5 or 6 this summer. I make them in the winter and sell in the summer. More time to fish. I just did three last year and had fun talking to the guys, but they are there looking for a good deal. They just don't know how much time and cost go into a lure. I know this did'nt help but its tough out there. Crazywaynee
