  1. Jim on my 2 piece trick worm molds from Del I use Calhoun Soft with nothing added.
  2. Welcome Waterboy. No need for books or videos just do some searching on the forums and read all you can. Start Slow and like others said start with the baits you are using. Once you pour a bait and catch a fish on it , you will feel like you have become one of the chosen! Start with simple things and in small amounts like your plastic , color, glitter and molds . Do not go overboard and spend a bunch of money on something you do not know for sure you will like. You can always add more to it. This hobby can eat a hole in your wallet faster than you can blink an eye if you are not careful. Plenty reading and ask plenty questions the best in the business is here to assist you along the way.
  3. Look like a fish bait now SWO! Good work and remember the more you practice the better things will turn out.
  4. Jim It is a 220 V Motor and it is a 64 rpm motor. Will it work more than likely and yes the price is awesome. This is just what I have found from trying different rpm motors and paddle designs. When I was using the 50 rpm motors with 2 blade paddle I was getting little micro bubbles throughout my plastics.I have since went to a 25 rpm motor with a 4 blade paddle and now my plastic is much clearer . I do think the motor would work Just wish it were a little slower. Another thing if you look to see if they have the 120 V motor watch your Torque Good Find Jim
  5. Happy Birthday Swede! And Happy New Year.
  6. Hope everyone has a Very Happy New Year!! May 2009 continue to unite us for learning and meeting those that share our same interest.
  7. Our biggest mistakes in this hobby is we all want it sooner than later. Dont get discouraged SWO and be patient as you are learning. It wont be long and you will look back and smile and say man that was easy. You have the best in the business guiding you and it will all come together.
  8. I use a 3/8 x 3/8 bushing then screw the valve on to the bushing. I think if you use the 3/8" you will find all the other is not necessary. I can walk away from my pot for 8 to 10 minutes and come back and hit valve and go back to pouring.
  9. Your Plastic will remelt just fine Jim. I think if you open the hole and use the 3/8 x 3/8 bushing you will be fine. I would also pick up the 3/8" nipple in Brass also . I think you will find it works Great for pouring most molds. Good Luck
  10. Jim I would start by using a 3/8" x 3/8" Brass bushing in the pot. I have found the 1/4" x 3/8" gives me problems stopping up a lot more than 3/8 x 3/8" does. I would not have anything but brass fittings on the pot also. Honestly the paddle set up is not going to effect how the valve flows by a whole lot.Another thing how far from the heating element did you drill the pot for the bushing? If you could send a pic that would be a big help.Using the 3/8 x 1/4 air fitting I would cut to about 1/4" from the Hex part of the fitting . Make that as short as possible. I normally run the full 3/8" nipple on mine and I dont have very many problems stopping up. Let me know if I can help you in any way.
  11. Baitman I am sure there is a slight difference between the surface temp and the bottom of plastic but I think it will be close enough to achieve the results you are looking for. I personally use an infrared now switching from an older style cooking thermometer. The infrared is much faster and easier and I feel works as good or better.
  12. Again Thanks Greatly Guys. The warm words mean a lot.

  16. I do not know if I remember Gill Raker Making it but I know Culprit Still offer it. Sorry Jim . I Did not read the whole post before I replied.
  17. Croixboy if you will search the word molds on here you will find every bit of information you could ever need. Figure out what kind of mold you want to make (POP, DWP, Resin or RTV) then ask more specific questions on what you want to accomplish. There is plenty of people willing to help once you figure out what way you want to go. Good Luck
  18. Al You are correct on that one. We also had the same experience with the pretty blue lights checking in on my lab. Was funny after the fact and now we refer to it as our Meth Lab.
  19. Rsyniard I had the same problem with the 2 piece 6' Diamond Tail and the 4" Diamond Tail. I pour with a pot and I was getting exactly what you described. I was not getting my stream right down the center of the mold. I thought that I was but I was not. Now when I pour them I make sure I am exactly centered over the hole with a small stream and now I am getting a great product.I know you probably think you are down the center just as I was but next time you pour double check to make sure you are over center. I think this will correct your problem for the most part.
  20. I use Avery 3 1/2 x 5 Laser Printer Labels.I designed my own logo and I bought a Samsung Color Laser Printer From Tigerdirect.com for 249.00 it was the CLP 315 W. I could have bought the CLP 315 as I do not use the wireless network. for 149.99 It comes with the toner cartridges and I have printed over 2500 labels so far and my toners are still over half full. The toners are 49.00 to replace as most are way over 100.00 each. This machine does a great job and very inexpensive to use. I would highly recommend it to you guys printing your own with ink jet printers. Here is a link to the printer Samsung CLP-315 Color Laser Printer - Laser, 2400 x 600 DPI effective output, 20,000 Pages Per Month, Up to 16 PPM (Black), Up to 4 PPM (Color), 360 MHz, 32MB CLP-315XAA at TigerDirect.com
  21. It looks to me like you may have your heat a little bit high. Also you can try lowering your paddle down a little tighter to the bottom of the pot.I know on some of the molds I pour I need the plastic a little hotter than others so I also tend to get a little settling in the bottom of the pot. Once the plastic get hot enough to be like water the glitter can not suspend. I do not think it has anything to do with adding to much glitter.I use some colors with twice as much as others and if I get plastic to hot I get the same problem with heavy glitter colors and light glitter colors.
  22. Walmart Here is the link for the pots. Walmart.com: Presto Kitchen Kettle Multi-Cooker: Appliances

  25. Jigman Here is some pictures of what I use. Fairly simple to make and works great for me. I have to many different size molds to make it fit each one perfect so I just made mine be kind of retrofit and still very easy and fast. I use 1x10 to make mine and I put 3/8 of in fall toward front of pot. I can get you some measurements if you would like them. Let me know If I can help you.
