  1. Yeah, sharpies or the big chisel point marks-a-lot. They also sell some specially for fishing applications.
  2. Those look exactly like the ones colored with the markers, you can even mix colors.
  3. I have always dipped the weedguards before putting them in the jig. You can paint the weedguard on the jig with the sharpie and the big pens. It gives them color, but they are still transluscent, looks really cool.
  4. Alex, You can use any of the color dips or color pens, the ones with scent are different. You can also use any of the permanent markers like sharpie or marks-a-lot, but they don't last as long and its best to let them sit out for a few days before you use them. This lets that marker smell go away.
  5. cgp, Here is a link to the one I use. It works very well in making multi-color heads. FISHING TACKLE for bass fishing, crappie, walleye, trout.Fishing lures, fishing hooks, lead molds. BARLOWS FISHING TACKLE.
  6. I get this sometimes when I use a smaller diameter hook than is called for or going back to the recommended hook after using a heavier hook. The JB Weld is one method, but I can't coment on it as I have not ried it. One thing you can do is try turning down the heat and the lead will be less likely to seep into those very small areas. Just not too low that the cavity doesn't fill out.
  7. If you have been pouring these molds sucessfully in the past, you might want to check the machined surfaces on the mild. Sometimes a tiny spot of lead gets on the surface and is just enough to cause a little flash.
  8. Cosma,

Sorry to hear about the job, I guess it could be worse and them not calling you back. Is it at least a paid vacation? Things are really busy for me this time of year. Had a club tournament this Saturday and I did not do so good, but we had a great time. Still working on your jigs when I have a spare moment. Do you have to fish through the ice this time of year? My home computer quit Sunday night so I have to use the one at the office for now until I get it fixed.

  9. Vman, Try taking one of your finished jigs and make several passes on the weedguard with your heat gun. This will flair the weedguard in all directions. I haven't noticed any real advantage doing this, but it might.
  10. You might also want to check your heat settings against a thermometer. Toaster ovens are noted for being off.
  11. Hawnjigs, I fish for bass from a boat and I tell you in rip-rap the angle does not make a difference. I don't have much problem with the hook point snagging in rip-rap, it's the head getting wedged in the cracks that gets me. I like the banana in the grass and weeds better.
  12. You can redip the jig in clear powder with black flake or coat it with D2T and black flake or I use the desired color powder with black flake in it, one dip and your done.
  13. Jig Man, I don't know what size heads you are using, but I have found that a lighter jig say 1/4 or smaller dosen't make that immediate dive for the fist open crack it sees. Head style is debateable, but I have had good luck in rip-rap with light arky heads.
  14. You can rest easy if you leave the lead in the pot. I have an RCBS pot that I use all the time and a precision melter with soft lead for those difficult molds that I use less often. You can throw a shop towel over it after it cools or use a piece of aluminum foil to keep debris out. As far as moisture goes, if it does get any condensation in it, it will evaporate as the pot heats up and you most likely will never know it.
  15. OK wired, I'm confused. I suggested the muffin pan to make ingots. When cool, the ingots just fall out of the pan. Unless you are trying to clean the pot, why would you want to get all the lead out of it? Usually you just keep the top of the lead clean by scooping the surface gunk before pouring. When you are done you just unplug the pot and let it cool. When you are ready to pour again you just plug it in and let it heat up.
  16. Does beltonbanger have anything to do with Lake Belton nead Fort Hood?
  17. Smokey, Yeah, you just plug in the hose the the vacuum pump instead of the FoodSaver. I havn't seen the new one's, but it shouldn't take to much to figure it out.
  18. You can always swipe an old cup cake or muffin pan from mamma, they are tapered and the lead just falls out of the when you tip them over.
  19. Yes you can and most folks use a clear like epoxy over the vinyl to protect it. One method of making powder paint eyes is to pack the end of a straw (the size of the eye you want to make) then touch the end to the hot lure. I never could get that right so I use liquid paint like createx. Hope this helps.
  20. booneangler, That's a fine hook, i use it all the time. Just be aware that it is a finer wire than other similar hooks.
  21. Smokey, If you got vacuum cannisters, you might be able to use them with the hand pump. I used to use the canning attachment from our FoodSaver and regular canning jars with the two piece lids to pull the bubbles out of RTV.
  22. Smokey, Just a thought, but wouldn't a hand vacuum pump like this one work juat as well and eliminate the explosion risk? Harbor Freight Tools - Quality Tools at the Lowest Prices
  23. Happy Birthday Gene, have a great day.
