    Transparency

I'm looking to paint up some "ghost" patterns, like Lucky Craft's Ghost Minnow for example, on some clear crankbait blanks. So far I've only done a couple, but with my opaque and pearl Createx paint it isn't quite coming out just how I'd like. Is there any simple tricks or additives I could use to my paint instead of having to order some transparent Createx colors? I was thinking maybe just thin it with a little water, but I'm out of clear crankbaits to try it on:whistle: Thanks
  2. Hey guys, What is the best way to repaint the joints on swimbaits? I guess the problem occurs not in the actual painting, but when you go to clear it. It's easy with the swimbaits I carve, I simply install the joint hardware as the very last step....I learned that one the hard way after I got some D2T on the joints. They don't move too freely when they're epoxied together:wink:. I guess the answer to my question would be "very carefully", but I was just thinking you guys could reveal a few tips before I mess up $20 swimbaits:whistle:...
  3. I get my stuff from Hobby Lobby in the fabric section, comes in a few different styles and its dirt cheap.
  4. Thanks for sharing man. I tried it awhile back on one of my baits....definitely didnt come out how I had hoped. You make it look much easier than it is:wink:. If you dont mind, what type of fibers are those?

    Chartreuse Shad Wakebait

Thanks dude... She swims alright, but I've found it's really suited better for deadsticking/twitching than actual waking. It's only my 2nd or 3rd one, so I'm still working the kinks out:wink:

    Chartreuse Shad Wakebait

Just finished this one...next time I think I will carve more detail around the mouth and gill area.

    musky swimbait

Simply EXCELLENT. Incredible carving detail on his head. I hope I can someday reach this level.
  9. I've been making some swimbaits, and now that I've kinda gotten the hang of it I'm wanting to get more detailed. I've been thinking of what to use as dorsal fin/tail material and I think deer hair might work pretty well. Problem is, I can't find any in black or dark. I'm no chemist so I was wondering if any of you guys know of a dye that would work. Thanks
  10. I've used everything you mentioned, but really nothing comes close to Owner Stingers in my opinion...I fish for bass, so the ST-36 is plenty heavy enough. If you fish for pike or musky, I'd go with the ST-41 or ST-56, which are 2x and 3x wire respectivly. They are very, very sharp and a perfect sized barb. I was loosing quite a few fish on Gammy's...switched to Owners and now I'm doin' better.

    First swimbait...

Thanks guys...It swims pretty nice. It took quite a bit of testing and tuning, and adding lead but it turned out to have a pretty nice action.
  12. Hey guys, this is the first swimbait I've made. It's a 6" wakebait, and made it out of Pine. What do you guys think? I like to be complemented of course, but could use some constructive criticism too since I'm still new at this .

    swimbait

There is a number of way to go about it. Linking 2 screw eyes is probably the most popular...just make sure you do that step LAST, or you will mostly likely get the clearcoat epoxy on the joint. Not good. I learned that one the hard way...
  15. Lavendar Shad, but bluegill is a close 2nd
  16. Well, I'm not real expirienced myself, so take my advice for what its worth:wink:. I bought a badger 100sg airbrush from their garage sale, and bought a cheap harbor freight compressor. I havent used any higher end equipment, but I like my stuff pretty good. I would highly recommend Createx airbrush paints. They come in the right consistency for airbrushing, no thinning required. I'm not sure where you could find completely assembled wooden blanks, but jannsnetcraft.com has plastic blanks ready to paint and fish. Hope that helps you out, and somebody else will probably add to my post!

    "practice" paint

Bob, that would be real nice to be able to put those 2 steps into one. Dont have any ideas right off the top of my head, but definatly let us know you come up with anything.

    "practice" paint

thanks guys, ha i think your right, ill get tired of practicing on carboard after about 5 minutes. Bob, i was thinkin that id seal it first w/ Devcon 2 ton thinned by acetone, then apply the white base, then paint. but then id wipe off the white too if i messed up. how do you do it?
  24. hey guys, well i've gotten into making some crankbaits, its goin pretty well (thanks to what ive learned on this site). now that i've got some blanks ready i need to paint them, but i've never used an airbrush before so i'd like to practice before i mess up my baits lol. i think i need quiet a bit of practice, and id rather not use up all my createx, so my question is: what would be good to practice with that can be spayed fairly well with a badger 100sg? thanks guys, i tried a search but didnt find much-i probly didnt type in the right keywords
