    Hand paint vs spray paint

"Way i see it, a crankbait is a reaction bait.. Long as it has flash and contrast, it will trigger strikes" Agree totally. Nice baits.
  3. I primarily make shallow running walleye trolling baits. IMO rolling action (flash) is key to catching walleyes. I believe my baits roll because I raise the cg in relation to the line drawn from nose to tail. This is usually accomplished by moving the ballast higher in the bait and/or moving the line tie lower on the nose.
  4. My very understanding wife let me build a 20 x 20 workshop on the back of the garage this past fall.
  5. I bought a pair of composite digital calipers from Harbor Freight for $10 and mounted them to my bench top drill press. I can zero them out and get a depth reading when I'm drilling a hole.
  6. I have been using a canning jar with a vacuum seal lid and hand pump for my KBS Diamond coat. So far so good. The first time I pulled a vacuum in the jar you could see air bubbles rising up through the clear coat. http://www.thriftyvac.com/

    3D Eyes

I never count on the adhesive on the back of the eye. I always use 1 drop of super glue gel on the back of every eye before brushing on the topcoat.

    More Lake Erie Walleye

I didn't measure the length but it was probably 28-30 inches long. It was skinny compared to where it might have been after another month of gorging itself on gizzard shad and smelt. That fish would have weighed over 10 lbs in December. Where do you fish for walleye?

    More Lake Erie Walleye

Caught 6 walleyes trolling on Lake Erie at last night with my 7" homemade crankbait in black/gold. Largest fish was 8-1/2 lbs.
  10. I have sprayed Vallejo Acrylic-Polyurethane Surface Primer onto resin baits with an airbrush. It seems to work well but I have very limited experience with the product.
  11. Thanks. Yes, trolling on Lake Erie at night.
  12. Caught 5 walleyes trolling on Lake Erie at night on 11/5/15. All of them were caught on my 7" homemade crankbait in the blue/silver paint scheme.

  15. It looks like the cure time on this is closer to Etex than Devcon. From the Art Resin website: WAITArtResin needs to sit for several hours in a dust-free space while it cures. In about 8 hours it will be tacky but you will be able to pour a second coat if necessary. In about 12 hours it will be dry to the touch, and within 24 hours it will be 95% cured. It will be fully cured within 72 hours.
  16. I gave up on ac1315 as well. At least untill I can do more testing. I was getting top coats that would harden up, but then soften later on.
  17. I was letting my resin baits sit for at least a week before painting. Plastikote sandable primer is the best spray can primer I've found so far.
  18. Just an update. I'm getting much better results thanks to everyone's suggestions. The combination of thinning the epoxy and getting the total mixing time down to under 90 seconds has made a huge difference in the end result. The space between the nose and lip on my stick baits is tight, but once I get by that area it's much easier. Thanks. Andy
