  1. Thanks Guys About the oven ... I have tried preheating (both on the rack and in the pan) ... I just seem to not get enough of them painted before they need re heating ... Guess I am too slow .. Course I make the final cure in the oven with a couple of racks that I have made that slip in (one at the time) just right .. i can be cureing one rack while painting and loading the other rack ... will be doing a few next week (got a grand son getting married this week end and seems like "POP" gets caught doing some jobs that I never thought of ...) ... A lot of this is what works best for you .. and I am trying several ways ... I was sure glad to get into this powder painting from what I did years ago ... Epoxy Boat Paint .. Dipping racks, and all that good stuff... never did less than about 2 thousand at a time back then ... You mix that epoxy and try to use it down to the last drop. Also went the lacquer then dip in clear Epoxy Boat Paint to keep soft plastic from eating the lacquer up. Thanks Again JSC
  2. Thanx Guys for the replies. I have been using a heat gun with good results .... with electricity prices going up I was thinking that the torch might be more economical .. and like Reeves siad .. you can see the flame. Just a new learning curve ... my shop is so hot right now (an exhaust fan and a floor fan and its too hot except early AM) will be doing more shortly with fall not to far off (and all that better fishing) ... Thanx Again guys ... the ones I did on the first try with the torch came out good just got to get the timing down ... and now I know where to concentrate in the torch flame. Later JSC
  3. OK This may seem like a dumb question ... but ... I just got a Butane Torch to heat jigs for Powder Painting ... I have been using a heat gun & I am not "Swift" enough to heat them in the oven ... so I figured this would be faster, easier and cheaper & of course the first thing I did was melt a jig off the hook ... painted a few ... Now the questions 1. What part of the flame is the best to use ? 2. I know this will vary according to how large an item is but lets say for a 1/4 jig .. what is the aprox. time it takes to heat ? Thanx in advance for a little help on this. JSC
  4. Hi I don't think you can get it much cheaper than a new one from "mbroggi1" .... I got mine some time ago from Ozark and added the stirring motor to it. (Got motor from Grainger) ... Or you can get the parts & put it together .... There are some good directions on a Candle pouring pot ... just place your valve at the bottom and not the side .... Hope that helps a little. JSC
  5. finfever ... for the money I don't think you can go wrong with the Presto Pot .. I have used as little as 8 oz at a time ... for the little bit more for an electric stirrer is well worth it to keep your mind on pouring and not stirring. I have Lees Pots (small) and the time it takes to stir and adjust Temp will drive you up the wall (well me any way and I may be 1/2 way there as it is) .. An important thing (to me) is to have a way to adjust the heigth of the pouring spout to the mold .. Open molds you need to be closer and on Closed You need it higher. My 2 cents worth hope it gives you something to go on. JSC

    Olive Oil

The only reason I asked about using the Olive oil in the plastic was in case U had been using a scent and added it in together ... otherwise no need to add it ot the plastic ... PACKING is the main use. JSC

  8. Just a thought ... been in my head many years ... the water color ... amount of light .. effects of clouds .. wave action and etc. have to play a big part in all of this and if some one can REALLY put it all together would be nice ... But I doubt being able to get all of the variables together is possible .... Cast .. Cast & Cast some more changing in between ... JSC
  9. Stir ... Stir & Stir Some More ........... JSC
  10. Just a thought .... have you checked the prop shaft to see if mono or what have you maybe wrapped around it ?? May be tighter going forward .. loosens up in reverse .... JSC
  11. I'm fraid to weigh what I have around ... we all have more than we will ever use .. Bet that Bateau' ran a lot better with all of that weight out of her ... JSC

  17. Tony Yep remember the Old Netcraft ... they were around for many years ... Jann's was seperate from them for a while before they became the same company ... so much of Jann's resembels a lot of the old Finnysports and they were from Toledo ... Just curious Thanx JSC

  21. Try CarolinaMike he has an ad here as well JSC
  22. Don't count out getting some one with quality injection equipment to do it for you. Figure your costs and how many you will be selling (aprox) and make your decision from there. Lures are notorious about getting hot then cooling off REAL QUICK ... the possibility of some one with capabilities and distribution all ready set up to "Knock It Off" can kill you as well. Just my 2 cents worth. Hope it may help a little .. JSC
  23. Thanx 152 Will give it a try next re melt session. JSC
  24. Every once in a while when re melting old stuff I get a color that I really like and it is ALL WAYS hard to duplicate. One of the first things I learned many years ago (making mistakes) was to color it BLACK when I remelted. I rememeber some of the old plastics when everyone got on to the Purple craze and most all of the black for a while would "sweat" out a little purple. Getting a consistent Purple was a real problem. In using "Dead" Worms (ones you have fished with) ... make sure the are DRY. JSC
