(Preface this by saying I am a retired Fishing Tackle Distributor Salesman ... aprox 30 + years also Retail/Wholesale Bait & Tackle, Manufacturer in the past and again now of Artificial Lures and Saltwater Rigs .. 10 years Air Force and a lot of other stuff .. After a previous post I don't want to be ANONYMOUS) Regardless to what I say below I STRONGLY suggest that you check with the City, County and State appropriate agencies .... and of course the IRS. (The following applied to Alabama, Florida, Georgia and Mississippi (from what I found from other Salesmen in other than these same states it was the same or some variance)). The first things I HAD to do when opening a NEW RETAIL Account was to see their License and their CITY/ STATE/COUNTY Sales Tax certificate I would either write their number down or get a photo copy ... Whoever is selling to the Retailer HAD TO HAVE this information on record before you could make a sale to them. (Regardless to where you are in the Supply Chain if you are selling to the RETAILER this information had to be on record). FET (Federal Excise Tax) falls on the Manufacturer. AGAIN check with the IRS for clarification of YOUR situation. OK if I understand this right ... You are Manufacturing in one State ... selling RETAIL in another State and You want to do business with Distributors/Wholesalers ?? Again as I said above my first move to be legal would be to get a license, City/County/State Sales Tax Number (most states you only need one for the state you are doing business in as they collect it from the Retailers and send the % back to the County/City) ... CHECK with the IRS to get your FET ID Number as well as to find out EXACTLY how this applies to You (I think that their is a special provision for those selling at retail). Now if You are trying to Sell TO the Distributor/Wholesaler their must be some law in that State that requires this .. I have not heard of such a thing when purchasing from a Manufacturer .... I think I have gone far enough with this BOOK ... I hope I have not confused You as I know this must be about as clear as Mud. CHECK WITH THE AGENCIES THAT ARE APPLICABLE TO YOU otherwise You are risking it all. Belive Me that regarless to the size of the business the same rules apply. Good Luck JSC

That was really a tip in the nick of time from the master ... I have just started working with the same problem ... was not happy with using clear dip over the head (eyes). Thanx Nova JSC

"""This is why you need to contact a professional not take advice from anonymous guys on a website. Feel free to contact me if you need anymore information or have other questions.""""" I was not going to say any thing about this comment until I thought a little longer about it . I see no where in the past information that did not refer to " CHECKING " EVERY THING OUT !!!! Off my soap box and shut up before I say something .... JSC

Having been in the Retail B&T way back when Ambassador 5000 was king (6000 was not until you took the bearings out and put in 5000 bushings) ... and later as a Jobber Salesman for many years watched the evolution of the Line of Ambassadors and I had really forgotten how many there have been until seeing this Extra Good Collection ... My old Red One And Black One have been put away for safe keeping. JSC

For 1/2 the price of a new pot complete Lee will rebuild it for You (really they sent me a brand new one for the one I sent in) I made the mistake of buying a new pot (just the pot not the whole thing) and doing it myself ..wrong. Go to their web site .. check the prices, send them an E Mail that it is being sent to them and wrap the whole thing up and send it to them with a check for 1/2 the price of a new one and they will have one back real fast. This thread has been of interest to me. I sold a LOT of Hildebrandt MOSTLY "Snagless Sally" and 95% was GOLD ... the other 5% were in nickle. They had some other good baits but the Sally In this Area has allways been a big item. In my Avitar the 9 lb 12oz was seduced by "Sally" and a Red Uncle Josh Frog (Washington County Sand Hill Lakes) ... The #4 and #4 1/2 in in tide water is a must have and for the early spring on the Lower Apalachicola I had to special order a #5 unweighted (except for the hook weight). Hildebrandt purchased ( if I remember correctly) "Rat Trap" Bait Company that made the Plastic Skirts they used. Later JSC

Just a word ... One sock you have done some great pours .. real "Hand Poured" plastics .. it would really be expensive to get an injection machine to do anywhere what you are doing by hand .. really I think You will find that Your next step and stay as close to the great work you are doing (I am guessing ..) and has brought you to where you are today , is to going with the Presto Pot, or should I say pots for the 2 color work ... you can cook it and pour it faster. Just my 2 cents worth. JSC

I never tried regular PLASTIC MILK JUGS for storing raw plastic ... I was afraid it might have a reaction ... Any one using them ?? JSC

Another Way is to DYE IT. Been discussed before ... mix your color with acetone ... dip and screte off .. then hang to dry. JSC

Just a little Add On to the Pompano Jig ... I forgot I had one from back in the 50's . (attached Pix) as you can see the hook is in really bad shape ... We called them Dudes and I think this one was made by Barracuda (they made the Super Dude as well it had a metal collar over the wrap) all since then has followed this general design except for some made in the Pensacola to Destin Area (not sure about Panama City). "livelybalits Would like to see some of your jigs posted - not a lot of pompano out here. If you are interested in a jig swap - PM me. JSC has some of my jigs - wasn't sure of the color combos you guys use... LedHead" =================================== Hi guys Attached is a shot of the Jigs from LedHead ... they are better looking than in the pic but I could not capture it with camera. In the sunlight the sparkle is really great. Pompano Jigs (sorry I don't have any on hand .. gotta make a couple with nylon dressing) ... as used on the NWFL Gulf Coast .. Traditionally an all yellow jig (with maybe a red stripe) nylon dressing .. with or without painted eyes ... bullet shape ... 5/8 oz Bullet Jig .. Locals trim the Nylon off at the bend of the hook .. that is the one that is marketed .. Now for the Locally made ones ... Fatter Bullet jig .. short shank (some are standard hook with a connecting link for the connecting eye) 5/8 to 1 oz .. Now the paint job is unique in that it is a cream color to represent the Pompanos favorite food the Sand Flea ... generally the dressing is a short Nylon tail in yellow ... within the past 10 to 15 years or so they have started adding a green chartreuse nylon tail as well (no change in jig color) .. Back in the late 60s and early 70s when I did a lot of surf and Pier fishing (you have pier fishing and then you have pier fishing specialist the ones that you make "Buddies" with ... you have to prove that you are worthy of it ... that is where you get into some of the dedicated Pompano fishing) I was making my "Scoot A Jig" Shrimp Tail and a yellow one is what I caught most of my Pompano on .. only recently have others started using plastic ... I still had a few nylon tails just in case as this can be a real "Finicky" fish .. and for those of you that don't know this is 80 % sight fishing .. I could go on & on with this subject ... Hope I have not bored yall to much JSC

Hi Last reports I had from Eufaula was that they were in the shallows rady for bedding ... Are you staying at the state park ? (North of Eufaula) If so I have caught many good bass out of the creek this time of the year... under the bridge and first little branch to the right .. Spinner Baits and Top Water if they are on the bed your usual plastics (same as you would use on Talquin or Seminole) ... Another Good spot this time of the year in that area is go out to the river and turn back to the left .. I think they call it Game Warden Slough ... My old buddy that has a trailer up on the Georgia Side does not have E Mail or we could find out a few things. Wish I could be of more help. JSC

Livleybaits This past year with all the low water in the area they had a little different fishing over that way .. the ICW is all ways great for trout and reds in the fall and winter, but this past year they had more of them in Lake Wimico due to the lack of freshwater ... a fishing partner was fishing a tournament out of White City and checked out the entrance of the ICW to Wimico and hung into a big Tarpon ... he had to break it off as it was taking so long to wear him down. There are some real big Trout in St. Joe Bay ... JSC

Grimsbane .. I meant to mention earlier when you made the commit on "Nudist Colony" .... It was in one of those first good warm days .. the river was down and I put in at the Ebro bridge on Hwy. 20 ... Place was loaded with trucks & trailers ... well to make a long story short I went some distance up river and started working my way back down ... about noon I headed back to the landing and passed rubber boat full of people I though at first in bathing suits ... well wrong .. Not a stitch did they have on ... men & women ... laughing & waving at everyone .. I all most ran up on the hill ... went down a little further and there sits a guy on a stump in the raw ... and a couple more in the water on a sandbar ... When I go into the landing one of my old tournament fishing buddies was there ... I told him about what I had seen (he had gone down river and not seen them) He told me that there was a Nudist Colony up the river .. lived here all these years and never heard about it ... there was some more things went on that day with that many people out ... better not say any more .... You never can tell what's around the next bend in the river. JSC

Neil .. that St Joe Bay is great as long as the Sharks are not in ... seems that is a big nursery for them. For Fall Specs and Reds hard to beat the mouth of the Appalchicola ... Course we have some pretty good Spec & Red fishing here on the Choctawhatchee but you gotta go by a lot of good places to get here and there are some to my west that are as good .... Electric Chicken is what has stuck in some areas go a mile further and it is something else .... As far as the "Walk The Dog" baits for big trout there are several good ones and if I can catch them on top I will stay with them till they shift gears. Have Fun JSC
