  1. " i was also told to heat the plastic in the microwave then pour it in the pot." ======================== That would be my advice ... what I did when I had a couple of them,
  2. "Texasfisherman, first let me apologize I got caught up in reading all the other posts and forgot one thing that your are a 15 year old enthusiastic young person who apparently loves to fish. I think some of the others forgot this too." Well said Mike .. Ditto. JSC
  3. X2 What SMA said ... Just to add a little ... going to the point of a full time Mfg to make money in this biz the cost of advertising and promotion is one heck of a big part of it ... Distribution involves a GOOD Rep and he will cost you 10% of what he sells it for .... the discounts to the distributors has to be competitive and I want even go into that maze of discounts .... better have a big cash roll and ready to work it out with out taking any out ...... Small time is the same only on a much smaller scale ... and once you get out of the "Hobby" Stage it gets to be work .... Have watched a lot of guys over these many years try to do it and in this biz only a very small % make it. ... Regardless of how small you are some one is watching ... DON'T BELIVE WHAT THAT TEACHER SAID !!! All though more fail than succeed .. fact of life Good Luck either way
  4. "Just know that turning a hobby into a business usually takes the fun out of it." Mark that is a fact U can take that to the bank. Hard to cash it in thou.
  5. Thanx for the tip Mike ... 1st time I have heard of that one. Only used Acetone (way in the past ) mixed with coloring to "Fire Tail" Lures .. that I got from Tom Mann .. the way he did it before injection was set up for 2 color shots on his Sting Ray Grubs.
  6. "I have shoved lead mold sprue holes up against pot nozzles and let gravity force the lead into the cavity" (Cadman) I have found that is the best way on all the molds I have (Xcept some spinner/buzz bait molds where I have to ladel). TF Mention the "Auger" type reminds me that I have heard of lead being "Pumped" as well.
  7. TF --- U havin night mares again? Seriously all of the commerical lead pouring that I know of use the gravity flow of lead from a pot of sorts .. know of them being automated to the point of clipping the sprue and back into the pot (This is on some Egg sinker molds) Also one company (I think it was FLA Tackle) that poured the lead in a flat ribbon and "Punched out" split shot and the remainder of the ribbon went right back into the pot ... Do not know if any use a pressure system out side of gravity flow ... seems if it would have been practical some one would have done it (and maybe they have) ...
  8. I'm with Frank ... The Weighted hook is soaking up the heat ... and like Mike said it looks like it needs some vneting ... Belly injecting might be the solution as well as a preheat of the weighted hook ... let us see the solution when you get it worked out.
  9. I have not But there has been some talk about it in the past. Pull A Search and I think You will find a "Bunch"
  10. Because it is the law ... Comes under the Dingle-Johnson bill ... it is a federal excise tax and 10% is paid by the MFG for what ever he sells it for ... This money is suppsoe to come back to fishermen in various and sundry things .. such as improved launching ramps and many more things ... Are they spending it correctly ?? thats a good question .... Some of the others on Ebay or what ever selling other "Stuff" may/maynot have an excise tax of some sort to pay ?? What concerns us is Fishing Tackle.
  11. What he said X-10 You sell your products in state on the retail level, you will need to collect & pay the state/county/city Sales Tax. The Fed Excise tax (10%) should be included in the price of the product (Excise Tax). Need to stay out of trouble with both and do the legal thing. ... Any thing I sell retail goes through a local dealer for local/state taxes.

    Pouring Buzzbaits

"have you smoked the mold?" For years I did this but have found as stated by Cadman ... Try "Dop Out"
  17. Just a note .. I like the plastic as a trailer with a little bulk for the body as I belive they suck it in better .. Same with the Uncle Josh Pork Frogs. The action helps in attraction and the Bulk in hooking. Good job Sneko.
  18. So far I have had good luck in Saltwater with the EC Black Nickel
  19. Mike said "break it down with a little softener" Just curious ... would Worm Oil work as well ?? I have some of the "Paste" coloring from way back and worm oil seems so far to work (have not tried to much of it) ... I have some "Heavy" fairly liquid coloring from back then (60's -early 70's) and do not know what they "Cut" it with ... Just dug it up a while back ... have been using regular "Hand Pour" coloring since gettin back into pouring and graduly draggin some of the old stuff out.
  20. I am thinking that you have one of the "Sand Cast" Molds from back in those days. Dont know if you can really polish it up ... Could You post a pix of it ????
  21. I think if you check out past threads you will find your answers.
  22. Heads Up -- DO NOT USE LACQUER ... Not compatible with Plastisol,... Hope that mite save some grief

    Storing Baits

Worm oil --- IS NOT -- Mineral Oil ... If you want to really "Goof Up" use some and give it a little while and you will see the baits harden and shrink. Been There -- Done That Hope this prevents some grief ...
