    Hard Work

Awsome looking bait, especially the scales
  2. Would it be possible to spray from the front of the bait angleing back towards the tail so the back of the scales are protected from the paint? This is assuming it is an actual scale patern and not just a diamond like pattern. you would also have to heat your bait so your paint dries as it hits.
  3. greens gold blue black yellow for panfish.silver pearl for baitfish.red for gills
  4. i use devcon 5 minute and never use a drying wheel. i just heat up my epoxy, heat up my bait, apply epoxy hang and let dry. but with that said it probaly wouldn't be a bad idea to use a drying wheel.
  5. i know it's repetitive but the search function is the most valuable tool on here.
  6. Personally I love new threads. Please keep posting:yay:
  7. Even though this baits been out awhile I don't think people have started messing with it much or atleast they haven't revealed thier mods. A lot of people paint their baits and I'm sure some people add feathered treble hooks. I have also heard people mention trying to weight it but never heard any results. The way this bait is designed it is dificult to wieght but could possibly be done by adding suspend dots or strips all the way up the belly from the head to the tail. Sorry I could be of more help but I tried to throw a few things out there. I guess you may just have to be the innovator on this bait.
  8. fished the 125 twice. caught a 2 pounder in pond and had one about 4 or 5 follow it to the boat at resevoir. water has been so muddy lately i haven't thrown it since.
  9. I have been using aluminum foil and then hand painting scales on top of that but I like that. what exactly is silver leaf.
  10. what would you pour the mold of the claws with?plastic, resin?
  11. For those of you that carve your masters for your molds, how do you create multiple appendages that are exactly the same? for exampe when you carve claws for a craw do you carve both of them or do you carve one, make a mold of the claw, pour two of them then attach it to the body?
  12. thanks. It's nice to see you around.

    Top Coat

    I don't use a drying wheel.
  14. I'm using aluminite to cast them. whenever I made the mold i removed the bait from one half of the bait before i poured the second half but when i tried to put the bait back in the mold it left a gap. I didn't think it was that big of a deal though. will Aluminite expand in a mold?
  15. I posted a month or two ago about a swimbait I was making, but I'm having some problems with it. When I made the mold one side didn't come out right so I stuck the original back in the good side and poured it again but now when I pour the baits they come out a lot thicker than the original was. This wouldn't be a problem except they're too fat to swim at slow speeds. so when I make my new mold how can I make sure the bait is suspended in the silicone right. Last time i tried using the clay on the bottom of the bait but this didn't work because of the fins and gill detail.
  16. while type of material can make a difference and hinges are important, I believe your problem with the bait not swimming is probally related to line tie location, the shape of the bait, the position of the balast or maybe all three. At least this is what I see most of the time.
  17. why don't you like the elmers glue method?
  18. Vodkaman, when I add my screw eyes I am concious of spreading them out far enough apart that the up and down play is very minimal. I am assuming that he is using multiple screw eyes per joint.
  19. Not sure why the hole needs to be clean if it is concealed.:?That being said, you could try using a large drill bit so you only have to drill one straight hole for each screw eye.
  20. thanks for the encouragement. I think i will try an airbrush.
  21. I was reading the resurected thread by rookie below and it got me thinking. I have been practicing painting and I know that is the only way I will get better, but it seems like I have come to a halt in my "quest" to paint better. I'm using paint brushes and acrylic paints, I've tried foiling baits and and layering paints but nothing seems to help and I'm getting frustrated. I know this seems vague so If this post is ignored thats fine, but I would really aprecciate any advice or encouragement.
  22. can't help you out with ballast but I did want to say that lure has looks great. what is cast out of
  23. I am almost done with my first resin bait, but I'm very satisfied with results so far. I used aluminite mixed with micro ballos for the bait and rtv for the mold. Just make sure you take your time with the molding process. No need to waste all that effort you put into your original
  24. I use hand tools to carve and paint brushes for painting. can't afford that fancy stuff.
