  1. :eek:Owner hooks? You have awesome eyes! Yes, I love them and thats all I use in my SB. I tried powder paint and I hated it. I match my baits with color and flake, So powder paint do do what I like anyway. I know the fish don't care about flake/pepper etc, But I like to take pride in my baits and like throwing them more. I just poured almost 100 tonight, painted and epoxied them... On the turner right now. Too bad I have 6 months of winter to use them.
  2. I found a way to do this. I took a 4 ft long piece of pvc pipe in 1 1/4 inch diameter with cap ends. Put a short carrage bolt on one cap to spin as the bearing side and heated up a square rod and pushed it through the other cap end for a square hole for the rotisserie side. Then I cut 3 inch pieces of 5/8 OD/1/2 in ID clear hose and put one screw in the middle of the hose into the pvc leaving two tag ends to except the dowels. Then I cut 3 inch pieces of poplar dowel and used a thin hand saw to cut a slot in one end about an inch deep. My hooks, spinnerbait wires or hooks fit tight into the dowel slotted ends. I can hold the dowel to paint, clear etc and just stick them into the hose end and it grabs them awesome. Sometimes it takes me a while, But I always can come up with something. BTW... You can use smaller hose to hold exacto knifes...
  3. Thanks again, But I'm doing 100 at a time. No need for 100 hemos. The eyelet is tight to my jigheads and looking for a better way to just stick the hook point into some kind of material that will hold good untill I want to pull them out. I may try plumbers pipe insulation. I used that for 20+ years as I let them drip dry. I'm not sure it will hold them sturdy enough for constant rotation. I don't think it will, especially the heavier head sizes.
  4. I'm holding the jighead by the hook and since they are so small, I'll have a hard time sticking the round part in a crack deep enough to hold and not get the epoxy on me. Keep the ideas comming... Looking for the best way for small hooks.
  5. I turn top waters/cranks/ etc... Looking for ways to hold jigs, jig heads, spinnerbaits w/o them comming loose and falling off the wheel. I put some dense 2 in pink foam onto a wheel and seemed to work OK for a while, But as it spins the hooks would loosen and move around and fall of. Heads were touching. Have you guys figured a better/easier way to just stick a hook into a material as you paint/clear etc? Thanks.
  6. I buy my blades and swivels from Worth Fishing Lure Components, Fishing Tackle Components by The Worth Company
  7. I bought a thousand of each size many years ago and they shook the spinnerbait hard, But added so much weight to the traditional spinnerbait arm, they did not track strait and rolled. But I got rid of them except for the smallest size. They wont do me any good. I think they might work well spinning on this center shaft type bait. They shake harder because they don't spin in harmony with the water like a spinner blade, They are a one blade prop that is forced to spin on two axis's. Put a one blade prop on your boat and see what you get.
  8. Well, I poured 6 to play with. I used some #4's and #5's colorados and different spacing from the head. The baits take a hard pull to start the spinning. They don't roll or spin unless the long skirt lays across the hook weird on that individual cast. I will keep playing with it though... I have some other blade ideas I want to test. Anyone try these? ROTO BLADES NICKEL
  9. I pour mine in and use reg paint, But I think most use epoxy. Devcon 2 ton 30 min is a good one.
  10. Well, I ordered the mold and clevises today from JannsNetcraft. I will post my results after I make some prototypes and test them.
  11. You must not have read the first post. I'm not using the buzzbait wire frame, Just the mold. I will be using a strait wire and making an "Inline" spinner. I have been pouring and making baits for 20 years. I am getting tired of blade hits at night. I have 3 models I made in spinnerbaits with hooks on the blade arm, etc. I want to try building an inline spinnerbait w/o getting line twist and using swivels on my line. Similar to these.
  12. Do you guys think this will have enough keel to keep it from spinning as an inline spinner with a #5 colorado blade? 3/8 I mean specifically.
  13. Thats only so the mold will close with a bigger diameter hook. Sometimes the larger hook soaks the heat out of the lead too fast. You might add a small vent in the bottom of the collar to let air out and lead in faster before cooling...
  14. I personally have never experienced any difference with humidty. If you are pouring outside with lower temps, or with a low pot you can experience this. I would make sure the pot is screaming hot, Mold on top getting screaming hot, full pot of lead on high, clean the nipple with a spinnerbait wire, paper clip etc. Smoke the mold with a candle and put the nipple right into the pour hole and "inject" that sucker with lead. Thats what I do. Lead Molding Basics - Casting problem diagnostic guide
  15. I modify all my molds for bigger hooks. I hate a small hook. Sometimes you can put the bigger hook in the mold and slam it shut, or set it on a bench and tap a hammer around the mold. If this does not fully fix your issue, You can normally see where the dremmel needs to be used. It's worth doing for sure. I also fill areas with permatex
  16. I used to cut off a 4 inch piece of broom handle. install a framing nail in one side and a finish nail in the other. Cut off both heads and file off the burs. I'd dot with the big one and after a few min, dot with the other side. Worked great for me. I forget the nail sizes I used, But thats just preference anyway. I used CSI vinyl paint.
  17. Thanks alot guys... I think I found what I want. Not sure how I missed it though. Do it makes a keel model buzzbait in the sizes I want and has the forward wire and skirt collar where I need it. Now I'm gonna look for a used one or just buy a new one. This project is for next season and I'm looking forward to catching some night bass on it. Do-it Molds: Buzz-Keel Buzzbait
  18. I have that mold, But I'm not sure it has enough keel to keep a number 5 colorado from spinning/rolling the bait....
  19. I know it's an Erie Dearie Thats where I got the pic.. I'd rather have a minnowhead with a collar, But beggers can't be you know.
  20. Anyone know where I can buy pre poured/painted inline spinners with a keel so you don't need to use a swivel on your line? I want one that I can tie a round rubber skirt onto. I think I have seen something like this before, But I can't find it. I'd like to find some in the 1/4-1/2 oz range. I would consider pouring my own too, If someone can show me where I can get the molds. This is more like a musky bait that I will be using for bass fishing at night. Thanks... Maybe something similar to this. I will be putting the blade on the front and hook in the back.
  21. Yep... 700* and if it ever did wear out/leak... You drill it back out and fill it up again. http://www.permatex.com/products/Automotive/automotive_gasketing/gasket_makers/auto_Permatex_Ultra_Copper_Maximum_Temperature_RTV_Silicone_Gasket_Maker.htm
  22. I hate flash so much, I drill almost all of my molds eyelets out deep and fill with permatex copper rtv silicone to the top over full and razor blade flush after it dries. This eliminates all my trouble. But thats just me.
