  1. I went out looking for a set of UV safety glasses. As it turns out the cheapest pair at home depot said they block >99% of UV light. I also do as mark mentioned and put foil over the lamps.

    Primer Paint

Cool. I might have to check that out myself.
  3. I like the 19 guage wire (I think it's National brand). Rural King and Ace Hardware sells it. It's soft, so its good if you are twisting wire too.
  4. I'm using some made by south bend, just because they are the cheapest. I think I'm using 1/8oz size. I crimp them just above the eye, so as low on the bait as possible.

    Some carved pieces...

WOW! Thats about as good as it gets right there!
  6. Very cool. I love seeing some unique paint schemes.

    Holographic Bluegill

Very nice! Those look killer. Is that holographic tape on the outside or is it inside the blank?
  9. I've been using egg sinkers and inserting the eyescrew through the hole. Then I just crimp lightly with some pliers. Works great and its pretty cheap (plus, I like to make the eye screw a little longer than the weight for a little more durability.
  10. I made a bluegill swimbait (posted in gallery) with soft fins. It is a major pain trying to get fins on a swimbait without inhibiting the action and it required several trial designs. One thing is for sure, they must be very low profile. The problem is, the fins are serving the exact same purpose that a real fish uses them for, stabilization while swimming. Hope this helps some, good luck!
  11. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays everyone! This is one of the only sites I manage to still check on Christmas Day! May your ideas and ingenuity continue to flow like your beers and whiskey on New Year's Eve!
  12. awesome vid. There will always be haters when you win, and even more when you dominate! However, as long as you keep one step ahead of these "good ol boys" you should keep winning. Hey, when all of your tackle box is banned, you will have to figure out a way to deter fish from their lure!
  13. Nope... just dipping and letting it drip for about 3 minutes. I only have to use 1 coat to cover the edges of the eyes. So I figure that is plenty thick enough. I've been working in about 60-65f temperatures.
  14. Probably, but I'm not that good! I've had bad luck by over-complicating molds. It seems the simpler I make them, the better the turnout, even if I have to drill a few extra holes. In a couple of swimbaits I tried a brass tube rattle chamber, but between the resin/filler being pretty dense to begin with and the weight of the tube, I had troubles being able to add any weight without sinking the lure like a rock.
  15. The latest lure pics I posted in the gallery are the gloss solarez. I've been dipping. However, you have to let it drip for a few minutes before hitting it with light. If you get too impatient and don't let it drip long enough, the surface will come out very dull.

Haha... I've already been looking in bead shops and clacking different material together to try and find that "perfect" bass hypnotizing sound.
  17. I'm using the small pancake compressor (intended for nail guns) from harbor freight. I think its a 2gal. I added a water trap and an electronic pressure gauge (both from harbor freight). I think it's oil less. I haven't done anything other than shoot paint and fill a few tires up though. I've had it for about 2 years and it works well. You can get them very cheap (under $50) depending on the sale they run. Its definitely worth it. I shoot at 40-60psi normally, so it kicks on every few minutes with heavy spraying. If you are shooting at 10-20psi, you can paint a whole lure with it turned off. However, the bigger the tank the less it will kick on.

    Tailed perch

Neat looking lures! I'm not too familiar with musky fishing, does a glider walk-the-dog underwater? Do you use a corkscrew to attach the tail?

Thanks guys! To tell you the truth, it started off with laziness! The design was created through a series of sanding steps with my belt sander and I simply didn't round off the edges. I don't know what sparked the flat head, I think Pabst Blue Ribbon and Jim Beam were the culprits. I started liking the look and over the past year I just emphasized some of the angles but kept the hefty belly look. This lure has a very wide wobble in comparison to square bills and dives about an extra foot deeper, but that may be more material influenced than design. I'm not sure if the angles do much for the action, I just like the look and it catches me fish. I'm hoping to try one out with the rattle/hunter method that Mark Paulson expressed too.
