If you are like I was look on the hobby lobby home page and find this weeks coupon I think this week is 40 percent off. Then go and get the Iwata eclipse you will have about 80 dollars in it and have a really good pen. Then go to walmart and get one of the 68 dollar compressors with the 2 gallon tank. Some createx paint and you are in buisness!
I have noticed alot of you new guys afraid of messing up your baits so I thought I would pass this on. I like to use plastic spoons for both practice and to test to see what colors will look like when dry on my baits. These thins are cheap and work just as good as Pvc. You get 100 for about .88 at walmart. Hope this helps!!!!!!!!
No doubt it will not take long for you to want to paint your baits. I played with my gun about 10 minutes and off I went on the bait. Remeber if there are small mistakes on your bait that is OK it is a custom painted bait now and no two are the same. We are all out to catch fish not fishermen! One of the best paint colors Bandit ever put out was called mistake, and that has caught ALOTTTT of fish.
I have the eclipse and I too have just got into painting baits. I went to walmart and bought a campbell hausfeld compressor with a 2 gallon tank on it ($68) I then went to T.S.C and added a water trap ($10) to it. It has auto cut off and you can adjust the air pressure to your brush. I like it because it dont run all the time and you have a good constant pressure. Most of all I have all of that under $100 alot less than the oter compressors.
I painted my first bait earlyier this week and made it out on the lake today. The first fish I caught was a 7 pound Guntersville lunker. Iwent on to catch 4 more for a total weight of 25 pounds. I have been making my own spinner baits and Buzz baits for a long time, but this is 10 times better. Thanks for all the info you vetran painters put on this site. I have learned alot!!!!!!
:yes:I get it at walmart. Just bought 3 tubes today. Iam new to this stuff too and I want to thank everyone for the info on this stuff. Howevere you better have a way to spin your bait I used a rod building motor to spinn mine.
Alot of the time these lure will run on their back. But since this is a lure that you must wait a 3 second count to set the hook it dont really matter. We fish the ribbit here on Guntersville and I have seen this to not be a problem.
A big thankyou to all of you guys for the help! Iam glad to find a site where everyone seems to get along and pass info., and not bash each other and all of us guides. (BFHP if you know what I mean)
Thanks,
Hawgydawg
I am fairly new to painting hard baits. Do any of you guys have a good source for for paints. Should I look into using taxidermy paint. Websites that carry paint would be great!
Thanks for the help!
Jimmy
Hi, my name is Jimmy I live on the Tennessee - Alabama state line and I am lucky enough to guide on the famous lake Guntersville. I have been making my own spinnerbaits and buzz bait for a fer years now and really want to get into painting my own baits. This looks like a great resource for that an I look forward to getting advice from experienced painters. By the way the fish are bitting pretty good right now especially the crappie and a few big bass.
