  1. It heats evenly and consistently but 340 is still too hot. Take your plastic up to 350, let it cool to 310 - 320 and then add your colorant.
  2. You're getting it too hot... keep it down closer to 310 - 320.
  3. You need to heat it to ~350f (then you can let it cool a little) before you dip. Hot enough to dip doesn't really say anything about what temp you're taking it to. When I use it I can handle the baits in 30 seconds (or less) and it's not sticky at all. I'm wondering if you got a bad batch...
  4. I pitch the bait in a large pan of water immediately after I dip it in clearasol (that sets it immediately and doesn't allow any sagging). Something isn't right if didn't set fast in 58 degree weather. You did heat and convert the clearasol (just like any plastisol) right?
  5. Injection molds are designed to be filled under pressure with an injector, hand pour molds are designed to be filled by pouring plastic into them. No matter how many different ways you phrase the question, the answer will be the same.
  6. Depending on how long the bottle sat, 10 seconds may or may not be long enough to mix it. I never add white (or any color except fluorescents, but white especially) to cold plastic since getting the plastic hot enough to convert will also start to discolor it. Heat your plastic to conversion (~350f) then let it cool to 325 or so before adding your colorant.
  7. Something to keep in mind with a Lee pot... The heating element only knows two speeds, 0 or 100%. The "thermostat" just shuts the current to the element off when it (the air temp inside the "stand) hits a certain temp. I install a small lamp in the power lead from the stat to the element so I can easily see when there is power going to the element (heating). I also make a wire holder that suspends a kitchen thermometer in the plastic, just above the bottom of the crucible. After a while you will get the knack of when (what temp) to turn the knob down (cut off power to the element) so the temp will not go past your target temp. When I was getting it all dialed in, I saw huge swings after I stopped power to the element ie. cutting the power at 325 degrees and watching the plastic temp run up to 380 degrees, even with the pot unplugged.

  9. So, I guess you're aware that the classifieds are gone...
  10. I had to work on the venting on my 5" do it senko mold
  11. Del makes a 2 piece hand pour 4"
  12. This one from AI is probably as close to that as I recall seeing...

Stir, stir, stir and stir some more. The hotter your plastic, the faster glitter will settle.
  14. Thanks Frank. I know you use a lot of their products so I was hoping you would answer.
  15. Very rarely hear about a problem with the RCBS furnace, but the way they are handling your issue is outstanding.
  16. Had a guy request some purple fire tail worms. I ordered some fire tail from spike it since I didn't have anything else in mind to make it from. Question is, do I need to treat it like a fluorescent colorant (add to cold plastic) or can I treat it like any other colorant and add to cooked plastic? Thanks
  17. Can you make a 2 piece mold with it?
  18. I'm not looking for a cheaper product Bob, I'm talking about not paying $25 for 1lb of silicone and then $35 to ship it. The mold I'm looking to make will be single cavity (approx 1.5" x .5" x .5" and probably see 10 castings at the most.
  19. Does anyone have a decent source for tin sil 70-60 or some other high temp rtv to make a lead mold out of? I looked at a couple places but they want $35 to ship 1lb of rtv.
  20. You won't need as much, if any softener with the SS (it's already in there)
  21. Most of the pre-rigged worms that I've seen (creme, westy worms) are rigged after they are poured. The line is threaded through the the worm with a needle then tied to the hook. I can't think of any line that will hold up to 325 degree plastisol.
  22. Never had any significant lag in communicating with them by phone or email.
