  1. I used heavy braid for my first swimbait taking 3 pieces and further braiding them for extra strength. It seems to work great however be very careful not to get epoxy on it because it tends to allow the braid to break. The action of the bait is amazing much easier to use with multiple joint baits. (I used a similar design to JR however no where near as nice he does amazing work

    alumilite

2 questions here Is it possible to use alumilite in a pop mold? (I tried and it did not seem to work very well....leaked out every where and ruined the mold) 2nd question where can I get the microballons other than online? Thanks
  3. Not an expert by any means however I personally use basswood and get it locally from a wood source shop. Its not that expensive and really pretty easy to carve. For paints I use createx airbrush paint. I personally seal the bait with a mixture of denatured alcohol and devcon 2ton epoxy....paint then do 1 more coat of devcon 2ton (not mixed). As for molding I dont see why you couldnt take a fish and make a mold using something like pop. Hope some of this helps. Make sure to use the search options as there is a TON! of information already on here.
  4. Trying to get this whole airbrush thing down.

    New one!

Still trying to figure this whole airbrush thing out however the bait swims great! Before when I had it just sealed on 2 different bodies of water 2nd cast had a 2-3lb bass follow up and next lake had another nice one hit it on the 1st cast (no hooks)...hopefully painting this thing did not screw it up. Let me know what you think
  6. Is that available on his site? Also if you dont mind my asking how much is the mold and is it difficult to pour for a new comer to soft plastics? THanks
  7. Wow great looking bait! How do I get some?
  8. Just curious did you use foil under the photo finish? BTW great looking bait and even better looking fish
  9. Wow Rick I just checked out your site and absolutely gorgeous work! I would love to change my counter tops to the stained concrete like you have done. Also great looking site in general. (sorry off topic) Great to have you as part of the addiction...

    screw eyes

Just curious is it ok to use screw eyes in basswood? If so what length is ok for small mouth and large mouth bass? Thanks
  11. Hers are better than yours JK Great looking baits by both of you. Not an expert but if you are using those baits for musky or northerns you will prob want more than 1 coat of 2ton on them. Not sure about the brittle experiance
  12. Nice looking fish Mike....now both Vandams in Kzoo need to look out

    Paint

Yeah I have watched a number of those videos online however have never really watched someone good paint a lure. I agree that it def takes practice and you should be good with an airbrush first in order to paint nice baits. Thanks for the info and I would love to hear/see suggestions and videos if anyone cares to get some up and share.

    Paint

I really think that some of you folks that are good at painting with a airbrush need to video yourselfs painting lures so that way I can learn from you and not suck as much as I do.

    Devcon

I have been using Devcon 2 ton epoxy 30 min and for some reason it is not really getting hard. 30 some hours after application it is still tacky? Any thoughts
  21. I dont know a lot about soft plastics however would imagine you could paint your soft plastics with an airbrush and then dip the bait in clear plastics? Not sure if that will help or not....However I can tell you I know there are guys on this site with the answer and its not a matter of "secrets" just be patient.

    my 1st

Yeah its a photo finish with foil under. (I put foil on the entire bait and due to the contours of the bait it got messed up in a few places.) Live and learn....I guess thats what makes this my new obsession.
