  1. Does the pot made for melting plastics have a bottom type pouring? I
  2. There is a Dacron 50lb double looped leader connecting the front hook to the back. Take a look at the 14 or 18
  3. Thanks Nova. Understood and the reason I
  4. Anyone know what oil is used for this? As in Type (min, veg, syn) There is worm oils and all kinds of flavored ones. I've read don't use mineral oil but it was by a company putting out worm oils. My imported olive oil doesn't cost 10 bucks for 4 oz of oil. Can't see the crap I toss on plastic worms being more than the kind I eat. Thanks Jay
  5. Yes Vodkaman I do need an interpreter. Or just some Tequila to catch up. I went over a few things in my head before going back out to look at this challenge. I think I have a pretty good solution. Time to test.
  6. Anyone make pre rigged lures such as a Sluggo with double hooks? I was thinking of a 2 sided mold with holes cut out on one side for the hooks and then adding wax to close the holes off wear the hooks pop out. Am I trying to re invent the wheel here? Anyone doing this already? Thanks Jay
  7. This was a 10 cavity mold of 9" sluggo's. I cut the Elmers by half and did 5 coats with oven heating at 200 for a half hr each coat. Then I did the next coat and fell asleep wit the mold in the oven. 6 hours later the mold was cooked nice. Has a nice hard clear coating now. Going to test the pouring as soon as my 200 dollar order shows up. Quite. don't tell the wife.
  8. Nova I have 4 kids so dont take this te wrong way. I think I love you. Thanks much Jay
  9. In short. How do I make one? I take it they can be made from all the same materials a single sided mold can be made from. So let
  10. Very nice. Congrats on the new lure stash.
  11. I bought another brand resin and got a diff color. So the first mold is the color it should be. Both containers had the exact amount they should of had which I could see because they are marked and in see the lines. Well its been a few days and the mold is rock solid and has no more smell. I filed the edges smooth and patched the parts that chipped off. Dam near perfect just like the lures are coming out. Maybe I'll put up another post on my molds. I just made a couple resin, POP, bondommolds, and one that is half resin (what I had left after making a mold) and half bondo for my own personal test. So in the mold cavity it self half the wall up is resin and half is bondo. They meet perfectly and marry together. I did't seal the bondo or resin molds at all. They are producing perfect lures with no smell on the lures or left in the mold. I'm now going to seal a half dozen POP with diff materials to test them. Jay
  12. Good question. Can I add where do you get the cardboard Card tops from?
  13. Thanks guys. Nova bunker oil is just that. Oil from Bunker (menhaden). Stinky bait fish that Stripers suck down. Same stuff they make most of the Fish oil pills from. Now that I think about it I might just make a pocket in the lure to hold some oil or a sponge that I can soak in it. Then just dip the lure in a bag of oil every little while.
  14. Has anyone added oil such as Bunker oils to there baits? If so when? Before heating or after? Thinking about making some to troll and know scent in the deep triggers more strikes. Proved this many times by just tipping a lure with a sandworm and dragging 4 without. Thanks Jay
  15. Thanks guys. Be it resin or POP what is the best thing to use to keep the frame work and master lures from sticking to the mold material? Will cooking spray harm the POP or resin?
  16. Nova, you saying you sealed the resin mold and still had the smell of resin on the lures?
  17. Very nice. That is a big plastic lure. Guess you just pour one a day and let it cool for the night. Catch good size Stripers on that Lobster or will any size fish pick it up? I've found a lot of lobsters in Stripers over 25lbs over the years but not in just keeper size. Thinking using that lure might keep some rats away long enough for a cow to jump on it. Smallest lure I pour is a 9" sluggo. Made several in that style of my own and Fin-S types up to 14". The thickest is a Yum style that is 13". It takes a third of a cup to make and takes a while to cool. how much plastic to fill that big boy?
  18. After reading up on you guys using resins and other materials for molds I figured it was time to give some a shot. I made one out of fiberglass resin and one out of bondo. Didn
  19. Guys any kind of Elmers work? Wood glue or reg? Thanks
  20. I have never had any of the 500 split or crack. I hang my lures on the hooks with only a half inch holding them on. Just poke the hook through a half in from the front and cast like that. Get some that pull through but only after a bunch of casts and fish. They also float. So after you break one off you just go get it and remelt. Tried the 502 but it was to sloft. I don't add any hardener to the 500 and it holds up great. No plastic will stand up to the yellow eyed devils. When they rip your lure in half cast it right back out and hold tight. Jay
  21. I have used the same plastic since I started last year so I can’t give you a well rounded opinion. I’ve only used Lurecraft’s #500. Has worked great for me. I make all large saltwater lures such as Sluggo’, Fin-S, and many of my own creations. Smallest is a 9” Sluggo. Striper candy. Plastic holds up great. I use a couple white Mr. twisters (because I have a giant 5 lb bag of them) and some white pearl silver flake to color my whites and crayons to make any other colors. Ordering another 5gal of it to start my spring time run lures that will start getting used with in a few weeks. I have only made PP molds so far. Like 50 of them. I heat the plastic in a microwave. No issues at all. Hardest thing was getting my heating times down. I do 1 minute for a cup and a half and then 30 seconds intervals until done. Cake walk now. 9” Sluggo’s are 5.75 for a 3 pack. I think it cost me under a dime to pour one. Can’t tell you how much cash I’ve saved and how many fish have sucked down my hand poured creations. MARJOR draw backs. Once you start you will have to show your fishing buddies. They will then be added to the people you have to make then for. Reason I now need to order 5 gals instead of one. Jay
  22. I poured several times in my out building in the last month. Temp never above 10. Broke 2 py by not putting it down on wood. Place it on the top of the metal micro wave and say good by. No big boom or anything. But nice cracking sound. Just don't place hot glass on cold surface. Below zero air doesn't break them for whatever reason.
