  1. Man that would make a nice musky snack down here on caverun lake.
  2. Lapala thanks for the invite the first part of the carve along was very informative and I learned alot in just 5minutes. learning these different techniques will take lure building for me to the next level. Ive already started on my tang and we will see how this thing goes. I hope there will be other carve alongs down the road and maybe on a freshwater species like bass or a bluegill. Cant wait to see the rest of the tang project.
  3. great looking bait John , I dont think there is a fish that you cant paint. I think we need to take a poll to see what fish should be next what do you think?

    Rear Lips

Pete if you lurk around on some of the musky sites these rear lipped baits are out there. I own a few Mantas just like in the video and few others that work well. I myself have thought I made a brake through in lure building only to find that it was already done 50 years ago. go figure.......
  5. Ive paid 80bucks on a lure once and I will do it again. If thats what I want then thats what I want. It was more for my collection but musky baits start at around 20 bucks and I have thousands of dollars invested in lures but fish with just a few. I blame it on the sickness, musky fever. Thats one reason I started making lures the cost of store bought lures was high when the cash flow wasnt 15 or 20 years ago.
  6. John you suck.. just kidding , fantastic as always.
  7. Just joined, thats funny I was talking to my wife the other day about learning a little more about fish carving. I was going to order some dvds from wasco so thanks for the invite I need all the help I can get getting started.
  8. Pete im an etex man myself and I dont have any experience with d2t. I will have to say that 90% of all my baits are foiled and I never had that to happen to me.I have tried crystal sheen before and it didnt work well with the foil, alot of cracking. It could be that d2t has no flexability to it its and its hard as a rock, and it chips off in big chunks. It could be a temp issue, some foil baits in direct sun or in a hot tackle box all day with certain clears has major issues. Give etex a shot and see if the same problem happens and let me know Im curious to see if that would make the difference.

    Dutch Baits

    Well done. very nice!!
  10. Lostfisher just remember to wear a dust mask when sanding balsa, you dont want to breath in any of the dust.
  11. Pete is the foil lifting or are you having problems with the top coat itself sticking to the foil?
  12. Great job John, you have again raised the bar in the field of swimbaits. I would like to thank you for sharing your secrets in past posts about making your baits and you are truely the swimbait master in my book.
  13. thanks for the tip I wil have to give this one a try.
  14. try wrapping your scale around your plug and at the belly of your lure clothes pin the scale together, the scale material will not move when your working and will stay tight to you lure.
  15. Im sure the guy fishing on the other bank across from him would thank him. I dont think he has a rod that can throw that far. Thats good times ,drinkin beer and launching chum, they could make a good beer commercial out of that one.
  16. very nice detail. I see you changed up the joint style from your other baits, do you feel this joint is better than the other ones. The only reason that I ask is Im going to mold a few for myself and was thinking the same way you did with this style of hinge.

  18. I forgot to add that Ive had the bottles blow up unmixed when left in a hot garage by mistake.
  19. I had a problem years ago with the baits cracking when in the sun.

    Few Questions

Jimbo something for you think about, fall fishing is a trolling time of year. Not saying everyone trolls but alot of people do this time of year. trollers are hard on there gear reels rods and lures are all up to fail due the stress of trolling. So you need to ask were you trolling or casting when the split rings failed. I been making musky baits for years and never had a split ring failer that I know of but people in the southern musky waters dont troll like you guys up north do, dont ask me why so stress on gear isnt as tough as it is up north.Trollng 4mph and hanging up on rocks with the wrong drag setting, line, and rod choice something is going to give sometime or another.I myself beef up all my plugs with overkill thinking the samething you do but lets face it something will give sometime or another, but atleast you are thinking of the people who use your baits or you wouldnt have posted this here.
  21. very nice... This gives me a few ideas for my own because I also was chewing on the same concept.
  22. Gator very nice gill pattern. I my have to use your pattern for my own baits , sorry.
