  1. hey 76 gator go to Fish Carving - The largest online resource for fish carving instructionals and fish carving classes by Ed Walicki. . you will see a selection of options to select down the left side of your screen, select painting cds. scroll to the bottom of the page and there is a step by step free instructions
  2. I really enjoyed making this bait, I like the old school look and its not something that i would of ever thought of doing. I had a guy wanted me to do a chipmunk bait for him, wonder how that will turn out. I would like to see some of other rat type baits from all you guys so that i can see different ideas and designs.
  3. Well here it is after the first coat will putting the second on tonight. The next one I do I will be doing it a little different, I learned as I went on this one. I will have horse hair whiskers and I might put brass tack eyes.
  4. Man the skeeters can get bad here to but nothing like you guys in the north . I never forget my first fishing trip to canada. On the way up to North bay I would see kids playing in the yards with full bug suits on and I was thinking why, until I stepped out of the truck and the swarm attacked. As far as the skeeter bait you might get lucky and and light sand them out.
  5. I got her painted and the first coat of etex is drying as we speak. Some of my musky buds came over to the house today to talk , so they can try to pump some info about yesterdays fishing trip, and I already have 4 orders of rats to make.
  6. If your trying to use a regular drill bit you are asking for trouble. First try to clean before it set up then use a small dremmel bit after it hardens
  7. There is no one thing anyone uses for scale. Ive used everything from lace to gutterguards that keep the leaves out of your gutters. You can use anything that you can shoot paint through.I remeber one time my wife had a lace placemat for the table the more I set at the table to eat the more I wanted to run to the shop with it.Well lets just say the placemat came up missing and the dog got the blame.... Man and I really love that dog too but somebody needed to go down for the crime,
  8. I was going for a hog wobbler type of swim
  9. After readig tacklejunkies post on robomouse I went to the garage today and just started cutting. This what I came up with so far. Im going to put a metal lip in it and still need to weight it . imgoing to make a top water lure out of it and and hope it will swim well I never made a rat before so I hope it works. The tail is also is glow in the dark rubber. What do you think so far any suggestions. Bye the way I went at this thing Rookie style no plan of attack just stated cuttin.
  10. buy you a set of small scales to get a good mix ratio
  11. hey guys Im looking to make some molds to pour lead in what would be a good material to work with that could handle the heat. What Im wanting to do is make a lead dowel plug to fill in the hole that you drill in the bottom of your bait. Im wanting to play around with them until I can find the weghts that i need. That way I know that 1 ounce of wieght is needed I have 1 ounce of plug weight that fits like a glove in the hole. I know every piece of wood is a little different on needing weight but I can fine tune them with shot weight. The hardest thing for me is weighting the plug the way that I want them to set in the water, one small drop of lead is the difference between a suspending bait or a flat sinker.
  12. never ran into that one I use etex. The only thing I can think of is if you used two or more coats of clear one of the middle coats most of had a bad mix ratio and didnt set hard . I really cant give you a sure answer thats just me guessing.
  13. just an idea how about glueing a few different types of wood together and turn them down that would an eye catcher.
  14. man I like the way you think. That Pike is close enough to being a musky for me I'll take one of your baits for myself that bait rocks.
  15. Man thats the million dollar pic. Thank you for the info.

    I agree 100% with you.

Sometimes making something to help you in lure building, such as jigs or tools, is more satisfying than the bait itself.
  19. I have a bait that my 5 year old son painted with markers and to me thats the best paint job Ive seen yet. It has a pic of me and him fishing on one side and wrote I love my dad on the other. Hallmark doesnt even come close to that one. only you can say truly if a paint job is a good one or a bad one.
  20. something as simple as sandpaper, can you imagine trying to make a bait with no sandpaper. that would suck!
  21. Practice on some cardboard or some scrap before you even start with a bait you will only upset yourself. play around with the pressures and make sure your paint is thinned right even though it might say air brush paint on the bottle I have raninto some paint that was too thick. youtube has some interesting tutorial videos on basic airbrushing
  22. man Rookie whats your secret on stamina my wife wants to know LOL.
  23. I really like the detail on the head of the perch bait.

    Who did this?

Roland Martin would have to design a new rocket fisherman to throw that baby. could you imagine what that would look like. Looks like a trolling bait to me. Ive throwed some oversized baits but that one is out of my league. It does have some very nice craftsmanship to it, my hats off to the guy who made it.
