  1. Hey stonecoal your not the guy I ran into last month on buckhannon river? I with with a guy that makes Musky Mikes Musky baits and we talked about baitmaking for a while. Im sorry Im bad with names If it was you I think you said you took over alot of Odie Cutlips tools when he pasted away. If not I hope to see you up there sometime.
  2. the hobby stores sell a good selection of smaller cans in a large color selection. Pick up some paint make some stencils and have fun. I you dont like it remember its only paint.
  3. I dont know much about foam but I think I would be more comfotable with a through wire. I fish for musky and maybe thats why I think like that , but I always think about the monster that could have got loose because of faulty craftsmanship or even worse somebody else loosing a fish of a life time.

And I like that shad pattern from tacklejunkie. diemai now Im going to have to call in a favor from a guy owes me that works in metal shop and get me one of those chisels thanks. Man I love new tools in the shop my wife thinks Im sick like that keep them comming guys .
  5. Never be ashamed of your work because we all know the time and hard work that goes with making baits. I remember my first paint job it was a crappie glider I made 15 years ago it was all hand painted with a brush and spots were made by dipping a piece of sponge and dabbing it on the bait. I fished that thing like it was made of gold and rookie there is nothing to laugh at with your first paint I kind of digg it .
  6. Thanks for the pics i could always use another pattern

Here is a flex pipe paint stand that I built The rack on top holds the lure so that I have both hands free. The rack also comes of the stand and is used in drying the bait. You paint , clear , and then put the bait on the dryer and never have to touch the bait and worry about oils from you hand getting on the bait. Every bait has its own rack. I have a heavier built stand for musky baits, this stand is really made for smaller baits. I havnt mounted this one to the table yet so it was easier to show you this one in the outside light so you could see it better. This is a crappie style jerk bait prototype that I was working on and is just about ready to be sealed with etex

Not enough action for me on that post site. I just wanted to see some of the little things we use that are made in the shop
  10. I was reading the thread tools, tools, and tools and everyone was talking about the tools they use. Everyone includeing me was talking about store bought tools, how about we post some pics of some home made tools and jigs that we use. Here is a small bow sander I use to help clean up edges on baits.
  11. I dont know about a compressor mine just walked in with a 12 pack.
  12. Did anyone see that episode of dirty jobs were Mike the host was working with the crew of guys that was useing the spray in insulation inside of walls of new homes This insulation was sprayed from the floor to the ceiling and packed tight and trimmed flush. Were im going with this is , in the show they hade a bucket lined with this stuff and took one of those alarms ,that hurt your ears that women carry for when they need help or to scare off an intruder, and tossed it in. They put a lid on it and you wouldnt believe how much noise it cut down you almost couldnt here it. Cant remember the name of the type of insulation this was, maybe one of you contractors could help, but maybe you could line a box or cabinet with this stuff and make a large kill box for it.

    drying wheel

I took a rod building class a few years ago and the teacher made a box to dry his rods in and used a small light inside. he said it cuts down on dry time and keeps contaminates from landing on his work. I thought of making a type of greenhouse for my dryer out of plastic with a light but never got around to it. I dont know if it will hurt you or help your drying has anyone tried this?
  15. Reefsinger I do use this bracket for painting and drying. The bracket fits on top of a flex pipe paint stand that I built. Each lure has its own bracket and when Im done painting then I clear, that way you dont handle the bait and contaminate the bait with the oil from your skin ,grease, or anything else that might be on your hands. And what I mean by a runner is instead of clamping your bait to your center shaft that runs into your motor you make a box shaped or cylinder shaped frame. Your center shaft that runs to your motor turns the frame. Your baits then clamp down to runners that run from one end of your frame to the other. I will post a pic of my dryer this week for you when I get a chance.
  16. I forgot to add that you run a bolt through the middle of the bracket into a runner on your dryer then wing nut it tight. the baits spins vertical on the dryer and you can really load alot of baits on a rack. Years ago I learned that one from hanging out at Jack Cobbs bait shop.
  17. here is the bracket I use for drying.
  18. If your really wanting etex try surfing around some of the taxidermy sites they sell them.
  19. I never wanted to be a fish so bad in my life...LOL...
  20. Dont fool with it leave it the way it is. You will end up changing the action if you start sanding painting and clearing. You wouldnt rent that bait out for the weekend would ya, come on hook a brother up. LOL...
  21. Vodkaman Ive already thought of a solution to make the height adjustable. I typed out the directions on how to do it but it confused me when I read it so I deleted it.In a nutshell to make the adjustment its like taking two pieces of plywood stack them together and drill a hole through both of them. then take one piece and make inch or two long grooves for bolts to slide up and down in. Stick the two pieces together run a bolt and wing nut through the holes and tighten. the bolts will slide up and down in the one board with the grooves to make hieght adjustments. Now use your imagination on how to use this idea on this tool.
  22. I forgot to add that I adjusted the bit all the way out so that you could see the bit placement on the table.
  23. Lets see if I can get these pics up on the horizontal router. Please remember that it only took 30 minutes to make and dont grade me on craftsmanship but basic design. I just wanted to see if this idea would work and didnt want to put alot of time in making it. This table is very basic and I have already made a design for one with height adjustments.
  24. I stumpled across this while surfing around. Maybe someone could use this. Copy Carver the woodcarvers copy machine
  25. If you have the storage space mount your smaller table tools to a piece of plywood square, that you can bolt down to the table when useing them and when you not hang them on the wall. I have a buddy that does this in a small shed an works out nice for him. oh ya be sure to hang them on a stud in the wall.
