  1. Paster Shane, Is rite on.!!! if you will be using any type of weight with the bait no salt is needed..Some guys even fish weightless with out salt.. Salt mainly adds weight so the bait will sink..To much added salt will cause you to have to add softner also because a heavy salted bait is very firm.
  2. Very good advice has been posted. You may want some salt .. & some scent.. ventilation is very important.. the fumes bother me even with a mask.. I will be getting some goggles also because I am sure the fumes get to my bodies internal system through my eyes.. do not over cook........... and make sure you stir & stir the plastic between every burst in the micro. if you are using any Chartreuse color you mite want to put it in the plastic when its cold..That mite also go with the hardner. If you need the hardner. wait to put scent in after it gets up to temp. Good Luck..

    Bags

Go to Lure Craft.. they have a 4x4 laminated worm bag. $ 11.98 for 100,, cheaper if you buy more. they have larger sizes too. www.lurecraft.com
  5. Randy, fill the mold past 1/2 way. fill it to the point the dents are then wait, but not a minute I do not think ? maybe 30 seconds and if using a micro reheat the plastic for 15 sec. then finish the pours. just mite work .
  6. slowing your pour is a good idea. also try to pour the cavities 1/2 -3/4 full then go back and top off. make sure the plastic is not to cool or you will get a seam between the 2 pours.
  7. are the dimples always in apx. the same area on the bait ?
  8. Scott, I mite be interested ?? I am in Michigan and the weather is going to hold off your hand poured bait sales ( except ice fishing ) for you in Ohio a while .That will give you time to get the shop up & going. I would get a very large assortment of stuff. By that, I would only have a couple of each item, say,, 2 packs of each color , but a good asst. of colors.1st impressions are important.!! When the doors open and guys come in they want to see a good asst. With the something new,, that will help.. That way you can have a great variety with out having tons of money invested. Then as you figure out what your traffic wants, you can ajust inventory then, It will not be easy,, a lot of Wal marts & ebays out there. But it can be done. good luck & keep us up to date on your progress.
  9. Happy Holidays to every one here.

  14. Great advice guys.. I too got into to it to fast and have sdpent over $ 8000.00 in apx 2 years. I am still apx. $ 5000.00 behind. It will take me 3-4 years more to come out on top.It is great fun to make baits you can catch fish on. Our baits work great and we catch lots of fish.. But getting other people to change from what they use and are doing well with is NOT easy.. good luck with what ever you do.. Jeff
  15. I am also interested in how the DEls hula skirt mold works. I think they need an injector. I have lots of the huls skirts for sale if you need.
  16. Great info again guys,, I have not noticed any hardning of any baits,, but Have not done the same exact test as Jim has.. I also believe that Scent helps to catch more fish.. So I mix the oil with the scent in my bags.. pure scent goes in the plastic mix. 152,,, WOW,, $ 10.00 a pt. is cheap..for scent oil.. keep us informed on its performance did they claim it to be 100% pure scent oil? Jeff
  17. $ 45.00 an hour would be much easier to make if you made molds.. not near as much compitition.. $ 45.00 an hour to hand pour plastics would be very hard to do.. you would need.. apx. $ 1000.00 worth of each mold you were pouring. then buy plastic in 55 gallon, all other stuff in 5 gallon glitter by the pound. color by the QT. Then like you said, sell them @ almost Yami's price.. mite do it ?? then there would be the electric bill ??? for --6-- heated pots..
  18. Kim, thanks for the info.. sounds great Jeff
  19. Del, yes Lam bags can be .10 - .20 cents each.. Bags are my 2nd highest cost after the plastic cost. to save time & time can be money.. you are correct on the number of molds.. I have your molds,, Bobs & Lure Craft.. with yours, 2 pc. 1 bait I only have 1 mold another I have 2 molds another I have 3 molds with the 3 molds I can pump out a lot more Baits.. with the single mold it gets hotter & hotter as you go..
  20. Kim, Jeff Here (Bass Boys Baits & Curtis Grocery ) this sounds great.. is it avail. in all 3 formulas ? as Nova asked. mix & heat is the same? colors & softness are the same? what about cost compared to the others?
  21. B Waters, great advice... I have gave away a lot of stuff with very little return.. shipping will kill ya.. apx. $ 10.00 to ship 2- QTs. of supplies $ 15.00 to ship a Gallon $ 25.00 to ship 5 gallons of plastic. these are apx. because the distance it has to travel makes a dif.. ---- corrections to my 1st post... 8-table spoons to a 1/2 cup 256 table spoons per gallon 640 oz. per 5 gallon ------- more info... 1-table spoon = 1/2oz. 8-teaspoons = 2 oz. 8--table spoons = 4 oz or 1/2 cup. scent can be 86 cents per. table spoon @ qt size.. if you buy it buy the 4 oz its over a dollar a table spoon. So use worm oil when you can.. Now salt can be cheap... 2-3 cents per. table spoon..!!! plastic is apx. 25 cents an ounce thats with a 5 gallon jug.. It looks as if you want to make any money you better buy plastic by the 55 gal drum.. Jeff
  22. Here is why Worm oil is good !!!!!!!!!!!! cost.!! worm oil = 17 cents per. table spoon Scent... = 86 cents per. table spoon.!!!!!!!!!!! 5-times more cost.. !!! but. I feel you need scent in the mix. and use a combo in the bags.. Jeff
  23. I have been working on how much it really takes & cost to make the baits.. please compare your notes to mine to see if I am on the rite track. shoot left my notes @ work.. I will post some apx. of what I mean. then will get my notes and post. stuff like.. I get apx. 52 drops of color per 1/2 teaspoon. 2--teaspoons = 1 table spoon on Softner & glitter I have notes on how many table spoons per. oz. and howmany oz. per cup.. 128 oz. per. gallon thats 3-4 table spoons per 1/4 cup (2 oz ) 258 table spoons per Gallon and 625 oz. per 5 gallon of plastic.. a table spoon of Scent cost a lot !!!! @ $55.00 qt. when a table spoon of salt very cheap.. also what size container you buy of each product is huge on cost.. have any of you set down and really figured out what it cost to make 1- 5-1/4" stick bait worm?? I have been working on this to the exact drop and its very hard to do.. I am going to go get my notes and post more later today.. Jeff
  24. hey guys , a lot of good info .!!!! I have 2 places that use consignment.. I do not prefer it.. but as said before.. its a way to start. I offer less profit to shops that want consignment.. 30--40 % the ones that pay get 35-40% Its pretty easy to get $500.00 retail in a shop,k So I try to get $ 100.00 up front.. if consignment is the only way to get in, you gotta do it.. I would not take to much stuff.. maybe 2 items per hook & only your best colors to start. if it sells they will be glad to give you more space. Jeff www.bassboysbaits.com I am going to start a new thread now.. on.. how do you know its 40% ???????????
  25. they look great,, you may have to add more color or shake the color up a lot more. Color will settle bad,, and needs to be shook up & shook up some more...I put the color bottle in the micro for a short burst like.. 20 -25 seconds or less if the bottle is small or is mostly gone..with the color warm not hot ...it shakes up better..Black grape should be darker than that. looks good so far.. !!!!!
