  1. My HF cheapo unit is spitting. I am using cheap hobby store paints. They were really thick so I thinned them down a little with water about 70/30. (70 paint 30 water). Could it be that I over thinned or is this a problem with the airbrush. When I say spitting I dont mean just a little. This thing is letting out a big splat of paint. It sprays nice for a few strokes then boom. Is it the brush or the paint?
  2. ....so are you saying it isnt an airbrush anymor? Just a brush? Sorry....I couldnt resist. Take it apart and soak all the parts in cleaner. (including the body)
  3. Pizza I have used super glue to do the exact opposite with polycarbonate. When you machine lexan it can get a smoked glass look. If you put it in a plastic container with a drop of the super glue (not directly on the lexan) the fumes will clear the surface.
  4. I made some poppers with alumilite and microballoons. I didnt notice any major differences in weight and I was building a healthy sized lure. My issue was humidity. My NJ weather patterns dont lend themselves to 2 part Urethanes. Any humidity or moisture ruins your pour.......and I dont have a climate controlled work area.
  5. Nice job Looks just like the forage.....
  6. This my help: Drill a belly hole similar to how you drill for a belly weight somwhere near where your belly hanger is going to be. If you drill the nose hanger and rear hanger to break into this hole it is a plus. Drill your belly hanger hole on an angle to also break in to the hole. You can put your wires in so that they can all be pulled in to this hole and twisted together. Fill the hole with 5 minute epoxy and you have a "hybrid" thru wire bait. I usually do this when I cant drill thru because of the length.
  7. I havent figured out why I like this. It certainly doesnt save me money. It takes up some of my spare time. It sometimes causes me frustration. Im not even that good at it. ....but yet I think about it alot.
  8. Heck I will chat with a squirrel if it saves me a few bucks.......
  9. Someone posted a video a couple of weeks ag that showed a japanese craftsman embossing foil tape. I searched and found the post for you...... http://www.tackleunderground.com/community/topic/22999-just-want-to-share-an-awesome-video/ This video shows his whole process start to finish. Sonny
  10. Pikin How do you like the original?
  11. You can use RTV silicone rubber to make a mold for lead also.
  12. I made a few with Alumilite and microballoons. If you useany of these 2 part urethanes (they are all the same) without a filler it will be brrittle and subject to cracking. If you use the microballoon filler, it will be more like a rigid foam and subject to flexing. It takes some getting used to......I had more success by using just a water based clear poly over the paint. The clear poly doesnt get real hard like epoxy and can handle the flexing. If you are using Featherlite, you may not need to put microballons in it. I think that one is already boyant. Sonny
  13. I took it apart to clean it and I see how it works. The needle has a tapered point which goes in to the back of the tip. This can probably be used to unclog it. In just playing around with it yesterday I found I get much more control than I had with the Badger 250. I think I could like this......
  14. I use onion bags....it is plastic and washable.
  15. I was just playing with it and when the needle is all the way in it doesnt let any paint out. I had to pull the needle out just a hair to get it to shoot paint. The instructions call it a needle chucking nut.
  16. Thanks I had a Badger 250 but that is external mix and doesnt have a needle. It works differently. Sort of like a mini Stanley paint sprayer. It was very straightforward to use. Harbor Freight's instructions tell you nothing but not to spray it in your eye. LOL
  17. I have the Harbor Freight 9581 Airbrush. The instructions arent so good. I get how the trigger works. You push it down to get airflow, then pull it back to get paint. There is a knurled collet near the back of the brush that seems to tighten on the really long pin. Is this an adjustment for something? Do I need to adjust the pins position for something? Sonny
  18. I used them once. I found instructions on this site. I used a rotary tool to put little indentations on the shafts (horizontal) and epoxied them in to the hole. They worked ok. If you dont like hook hangers you can load your treble on them before you epoxy them in.
  19. Thanks I had wired one and went with it below the nose. I didnt want to do the other two without being sure. Sonny
  20. Has anyone built this lure? I shaped up 3 bodies and am having trouble with understanding where the line tie goes. If you have been to the site where the pattern is given, the drawings have the line tie just below the nose. The builders photo has it centered on the nose. There are two weighting options, and I chose the original Bagley's style with middle hook hanger just behind the weight. Thanks Sonny
  21. I found the same thing. If you heat set acrylic paints they tend to act like a shrink wrap. They get kinda tight. As it cools it loosens up a bit. If you put another coat on while it is still hot, it will be loosening underneath the new coat that is shrinking. That is sort of the equivalent of an earthquake. Two slabs going in different directions....LOL
  22. Another guy (like myself) who hates removing trebles from lively fish???????
  23. Yes and me too. I like to hear what you are working on. You are so free with your knowledge and experience that it would be a sad day if someone were to be put off by your interactions. Sonny
  24. The yellow one has a different motor and although they are both rated at a 1/4 hp.this one runs a little faster. I have used it on oak and poplar so far and it hasnt bogged once. It is probably the best table top tool I have had for under $60. Sonny
