My opinion only: Yes, I think that the sun is what yellows the Devcon. I tried to spray automotive clear over the devcon to see if it would still yellow and it has not so far. I have been wanting to try some of the UV Blast stuff to see if that would keep it from yellowing. It does take a long time to see a bait start to yellow. I have some that are three to for years old that has not yellowed yet.

Hi guys. I need some help. I have been using the plastic brushes that you buy at Wally world to apply D2T. Well they do not carry them any more and I have not found them on the web yet. Do any of you have a place that you order them from?

I used a stencil. It is much easier. Some times I go back over the stencil line and shade them free hand. Using a stencil is a great way IMO. It is easy to get the same pattern on both sides of the bait.

Just wanted so share something that I did to paint some fish fins. I cut a stencil out for the shape of the fin that I wanted. Than I took some braid and cut it into short pieces. Take the pieces of the braid that you cut and lay them over the stencil cut out. Once you get the spacing right for the lines of the fins than take some super glue and glue them in place. Put a little tape over the glued areas. Now you can spray a fin on your baits. Hope this gives some of you some ideas.

Hey guys, I need help again!! I have a few swim baits that I want to paint. But I am struggling with how to fix it so that it does not move when painting. Also I use D2T to clear and have no clue how I would keep the bait straight while turning. I tried a little super glue on the hinges but it did not work. I need help and some photos may be helpful too. Thanks Mike

I can't wait to see this post come Monday. LOL!!! What you use and like will be different from others. I spray lacquer paints and use D2T for the top coat. IS this the best? Maybe not but it is what I am used to and know how to use. I used to use an automotive clear coat for the top coat. It worked very well but you had to spray 4 to 5 coats on it to get the depth that you see on most custom baits. Some guys don’t like lacquer because of the fumes. Yeah, I have lost some brain cells. LOL!! It is good paint and can be expensive. I use a spray booth and buy in bulk if I can so it is not that bad. The bottom line is knowing the product that you use and having confidence in it. That is what makes guys say that they use the best paints out there. Good Luck

What is the difference between the splatter tip and the regular tip?

Hey guys. I was wondering what the best way to splatter paint. I know you can make fast trigger pulls to get the splatter. Also I have turned the air down and not thin the paint as much works too. But, are there other ways to do it? Thanks Mike

I like to find old baits like that and refinish them. A few years ago I did a dozen or so for a friend. They were RC3's. Almost all of them were cracked and chipped and even had rubber worm sticking to them. What I did to restore them: 1) I sanded them down to get them smooth. Some I sanded to the bare wood. The wood is not that soft on those baits. 2) I coated them with sealer. I scuffed them up and dipped them in clear laq. a few times. 3) I sanded them with 600 to get them smooth. 4) Primed and painted 5) Coated with D2T If there was any bad spots that I had to fill I did that before I sealed them. Becareful with the cracks too. If you don't sand them out you could see them come back. My dad was a cabinet maker and said that the cracks come from moisture getting in the wood. When the wood gets hot and cold it would expand and this would happen. I hope this helps out.

I am looking for an iridescent blue flake. I have a iridescent purple and green but can not find it in blue. The two that I have are made by Poly Flake. It is a white looking flake but reflects purple or green. Do you guys know where I can find this? Thanks

I put the scales on in multiple ways. If I just want the scale on the shoulders than I use the hoop with netting on it. If I want to do the scale on the whole bait than I wrap it around and use clips to hold in place or just use my hand. It just depends on what you want. Both ways are easy but will take practice to get what you want. If you want multi-color scale than you have to wrap the bait. That is the only way the you can color and keep the scale lined up. Where do they get the multi colored foil? I like to looks of foil baits and would love to be able to do it. I will try some of the adhesive stuff. Thanks

I have tried to foil a bait with the gold leaf stuff. It just does not turn out the way it should. It breaks and cracks and than the bait shows thru. What am I doing wrong. I know there is a post on this but I need help. Thanks
