    New Mouse Spoons

Thank you for your kind words , guys:yes: ! @ mark poulson Actually still two months more to fish them for the first time , too bad:( , can't wait as well , lol ! @ rofish Rofish , not my idea about those cord tails , lure designers of yesteryear had already done such or similar before:yes: , these tails were made of leather stripes or cotton cord back then . I can only take advantage of modern materials(shrink tube and nylon cord 3 mm) , that are not vulnerable to moisture as much . I could have attached plastic worms as well somehow , those would even move better , but since I have had sticky messes in my tackleboxes two times before , I don't like storing these together with foil-decorated or otherwise not wormproof lures:nuhuh: ! greetz , Dieter

    New Spoon Models

Thank you guys for your kind words ! Actually it really seems , that metal lures are on decline nowadays , but nevertheless I really like fishing them . They catch almost any predatory species , deep or shallow , depending on size , style and weight of the spoons . And hopefully still one or another different spoon design idea would come up to my mind some day to make up for nice fish catching action:) . I agree , that there should still be potential for something a bit out of the box to make up for the little difference to the usual metals , still coaxing some strikes more . Thanks again , diemai

Very neat job for its small size , must have been quite finacky to assemble the three sections plus tail ! Nice lure:yay: , diemai
  7. Really cool story ! To me it is evidence , that America is crazy about fishing . Such would never happen over here in Germany , I guess . good luck and success in your new job , greetz , diemai
  8. It was the time back in the early 90's , when my wife and me came across those "quiver tip" rods for the first time . In America you might not be familiar to them , these lay on a rod rest , any slightest nibble on the bait is detected by the most sensitive tip , provided the line passes out at about 90° to the rod , a bottom sinker or chumming basket set-up is essential . It has something of a revolver quick draw to instantly grab the rod to haul back on a strike , you'd always need be on alert sitting right next to the rod's butt . Anyway , it happened to be , that one day on the pond's site I have found a snelled hook , that I never knew before , and I tied it to my "quiver tip" rod's line . Fishing was slow , and I haven't payed attention for some time , actually I was chatting with someone a few yards away from my rod and suddenly saw my rod being tossed out of its two "Y" shaped rests right into the water , obviously a carp had taken the bait . Well , it swam through someone elses line , got tangled to it and the person could somehow land that fish on my line , but the connection to the rod had snapped , so I guess , that it is still in there today . Later one guy told me , that the strange hook , that I have found , was a "sure set" hook , that fish hook themselves onto it , without having to set the hook ! Never used such hook for "quiver tip" fishing again:huh: ! On another ocassion some two years ago my wife had her rod pulled into the water by a carp , we were already packing to leave , so we didn't pay attention , and of course my wife had failed to open the bail of the casting reel . Anyway , as we heard some noise and a dampened splash , we turned around to see the rod pulling out straight out the pond just to submerge slowly like a submarine on the dive . Even though I had already given up upon that telescopic rod , I have later searched the pond with my binoculars , I was lucky , that it was a quiet day and the waters surface was still . Finally I saw it floating under a bush on the opposite bank , so my wife walked around the pond , and she finally could recover it , the carp had snapped the leader , and the air inside of the pole was sufficient to keep it afloat even with the attached reel ! She was quite angry about having to walk for a mile , since the pond was surrounded by a swamp area , no short cuts possible . Cleaned up rod and reel , and the next day it has caught carp in that very pond again ! greetz , diemai

    New Mouse Spoons

About three weeks ago I have already uploaded some of this model called "mouse spoon" . Here are some new stainless steel ones , that I got done with today , this time for my own tackle box ! I have decided to cover them with decal foil , on the chartreuse foil you can clearly see , that those foil cut-outs need to be slotted around their rim , so that the foil can be applied without wrinkles onto the cupped spoon surface , it would slightly overlap on some of those cuts , but not fold up . The hole for the bead I have done with a scalpel knife after the foil did stick firmly . This foil , that I ordered from "Moore's Lures"/Wisconsin , holds up quite well against the abuse whilst fishing , only had one spoon to redo after two or three seasons so far and it was PITA to peel all foil remainders off . Sometimes only the corners of some of those rim cuts would come up due to rough bottom contacts(rocks , gravel , mussels, etc.) , so I always cut these off with a sharp knife to prevent more foil to come loose . Center spoon is plain polished under the foil , the outer two are heated to red glow after polishing with a soldering torch to make up for their blue/brown/purple color . greetz:yay: , diemai

    Striped Expanded PVC

Nice lure , looks somehow a "typical down under" shape:huh: ! But where are the hook eyes and line tie , gonna put screw eyes later:? ? Well done:yes: , greetz:yay: , diemai
  13. @ hazmail Haven't visited those sites yet , but I guess that many of these designs and innovations are a result of all the drawbacks and lacks , that people were suffering from in the former communist societies in Eastern Europe . I know this from my fellow countrymen from the east of Germany , they simply couldn't obtain many items that they wanted , so many things had to be homemade or substituted somehow , so this led into great creativity . greetz:yay: , diemai
  14. @ Vodkaman Hahaha , reminds me to my early teenage years , I was making plastic models back then in my kids room , more than once I had to pick out smaller model parts from the dust bag of my mum's vacuum cleaner , surely I'd find them in there finally ! sorry , a bit off-topic:huh: , greetz:yay: , diemai

@ 5BITES Try cutting stencil patterns with small quality fingernail scissors , these can make shorter , curved cuts . good luck , diemai
  18. @ Rick James Glad , that I could help a bit:wink: ! Through the years I have made hundreds of spinnerblades and spoons from sheet metal , most likely utilized stainless steel(spinner blades) , but also copper and brass(spoons) . If you should have any further questions , feel free to post ! good luck:yay: , diemai
  19. @ JBlaze John , you really have taken an effort to share the results of your experiments with us , thank you so much:yes: ! You have explained your pull test thoroughly , easy to follow and to understand . I agree with you , that the outer coil windings would not have deformed as fast , if the hinge pin would have been larger in diameter . I am also quite surprised , that the wire ends had straightened out , I rather would have expected the wood grain of the balsa to crack up and release the glue plug around the wire ! Thanks to having reinforced the wood previously:yes: ! I also agree , that the final result of your test is evident , that none of your target species would pull your lure apart , since under fishing conditions you still have the flex of the arching rod and(mono)line to feather down the pull force of a fighting fish , a bad snag to pull free could be worse , probably . To add strength to this type of hinge one might secure the "U"-bent wire ends epoxied into the wood body by crosswise wire pins , leading through the wood and engaging right into the deepest points of the "U"-bents . Should be assembled in a dry fit at first and later all set in during one process with the still wet glue ! Thanks again for sharing , greetz:yay: , Dieter

    Smallest trout ever!

I assume , its a sinking glider ? Nice job done , local perch would surely hit it hard ! greetz:yay: , diemai
  21. @ RickJames Shop-bought blades are stamped out of brass sheet and after nickel plated(silver colored ones) . I am making my own spinner blades out of stainless steel sheet , 0,5 millimetres thick , since I have easy access to it at the scrapyard of my work , also it is more rigid than brass or copper of same thickness . For blades up to 3" in length its still OK , for bigger , heavier ones one might choose a bit thicker sheets , since these thinnner ones might deform under higher tension , the longer/wider they get . On the other hand thicker material is harder to cut and shape , also heavier blades do spin more slow . Made smaller blades out of 1,0 millimetre copper , they did not perform too well , since they were too heavy . I have also made trials with 1,0 millimetres aluminium sheets , works fine in terms of cutting , shaping and spinning , but these can't be shiny polished , have to be painted or decorated with decal foil . good luck:yay: , diemai
  22. Presently I am set on short time work every second week due to the economical crisis , so plenty of time for luremaking . I am presently working on a bunch of stainless steel spoons , that I am making for personal use and for a lure swap . Also have already shaped some creepers and crawlers(also for a lure swap)and some lathe-turned crankbaits and gliders , that I need to proceed with . greetz , diemai
  23. @ Mags This is just unbelieveable and cannot be tolerated , at least these are brand name lures , and no cheapies . I really wonder , what the folks at Rapala would say to that ! good luck:yay: , diemai

    New Spoon Models

Just got done today with some models of a new spoon design of mine:) . Asymmetrical spoons are nothing new , though , but not very common , so I've thought , why not trying my hand on such ? So well , after some brief sketching some weeks ago I came up with my first two experimental prototypes , that I made out of 1 mm thick brass sheet , since this is easier to work on . I was aware, that for proper function these spoons need to be somehow "twisted" within , but I wasn't sure about the attachement locations of hook and line , so I have furnished multiple holes on the prototypes . One one model , that I have now named "The Clicking Roller" , I have furnished a slotted line tie , that I was already familiar with from an old Finnish lure . After thoroughly testing these initial brass models in my bath tub , I found out about the best locations for hook and line tie , all the other options did not let the spoons perform well at all . Since I was(and still I am) pretty much confident about their action , I have cut out some more 3" blanks from stainless steel sheet , approx. 1,3 mm thick . Even made one larger 4" blank of that "Clicking Roller" and also a 4" version of the second model , that I have named "The Shaker" now . Dead sure there are some more to come of these 4 inchers:yes: ! The shaping was a bit different to "common" spoons , but yet not a problem to me . Prior to polishing and decorating the spoons , I have tested them all again in my bath tub , and they seem to be quite "good natured" , meaning , that they're forgiving little differences in shape , cupping and uniformity . The "Clicking Roller" has a rolling action from one edge to the other , same time swimming in a tighter "wave" pattern and generating a metallic clicking noise , as the splitring slides up and down the line tie slot . Attaching the hook to the inner attachement hole provides a little more action and noise compared to the rear hole , but the differences are only subtle with this model . At very , very slow retrieve pace the spoon tends to roll over and only flutter unattractively . The "Shaker" has a much more pronounced action , it really "butt-shakes" left and right violently , the faster the retrieve the more it does and and also gets to move already at slow speeds . Hook and line located at the inner holes make up for the most lively action , but also let the lure rise up quicker . The larger 4" models are even still acting "wilder" as the smaller ones , I guess , this is because of their bigger plane in the water . Unlike "common" spoons , the vibrations of these models would certainly be clearly felt in the rod tip . The spoons are decorated with different decal foil cut-outs , some are even "glow-in-the-dark" color , some of the blanks I have heated to glow to get them to their distinctive darker blue/brown/purple color . Can't wait to try them on pike when our season is gonna start in May ! greetz , diemai
