  1. @ reel doctor Not a pro' by far , but I also suspect them to be production failures , since I never came across such . In the book "Luremaking" by A.D. Livingston(dealing on all kinds of leadheads and wirebaits) they don't mention such as well , only "stirrup clevises" , "folded clevises" and "quick-change clevises" . But I guess , rigging these with the longer arm towards the blades rear is the better way , since like this the blade can't bind with the shaft . greetz , diemai
  2. Thanks guys , but these X-rays are not of German origin , the DHC also got them from a Finnish (what else:lol:?) site . So , bear in mind , if you wanna know about an unknown lure's weighting and construction , take it to the doctors(but don't let them submit you to a home for the mentally sick) ! greetz:yay: , diemai
  3. @ Milia B So many advice about scroll saws and bandsaws has been given here , but did you even fix your piece of wood , when you were cutting it with the scroll saw or you tried it "free-handed" ? I use such a saw as well , cutting my lurebodies from abachewood boards(softer wood) 1" x 3 1/2" , I always fix these boards on my workbench with 2-3 carpenters clamps , leaving the end to be cut a bit potruding over the bench's edge . I agree , that these saws can give you bit of a headache and are not as accurate as a bandsaw , but I got used to it . Sanding down the inaccurate cuts down to the marked abachewood blank outlines is a breeze on a 5" dia and 40 grit sanding disc . Working with a bandsaw is not as dangerous as you may think , if you take care a bit . A good saw must have an adjustable blade protection , so only the part of the blade is freely accessible , that is needed to fit the height of your workpiece . There are also devices to hold your workpiece whilst cutting , so your fingers can't really get close to the blade . At least you may use a piece of scrabwood pushing the workpiece against the blade , if your fingers should still get too close . Always highly concentrate on what you are doing , wear eye protection , and you'll stay healthy . greetz:yay: , diemai
  4. @ finlander Depends on each particular model , some are of plastic , also read in a new German tackle catalog , that one model was made of abachewood . Maybe , this could help : DHC - Deutscher Hechtangler-Club e.V. Click on pics to enlarge ! greetz , diemai
  5. If one's patient and determined enough , it's possible to really get something out of those rattlecans ! Very nice paint designs , indeed:yes: ! Welldone:yes: , greetz , diemai
  6. These comb patterns look cool , gotta give it a try as well with my rattle cans ! Thanks guys for sharing:yes: ! @ 76gator Dollar stores are cool(OK , over here they are called 1-Euro-Shop) , have already got some nice Aluminium tape there for foiling and unbelievable 24 pieces packs of disposable plastic brushes , exellent for topcoating . After having tried these first , on next occasion I've bought out the entire stock of these from that particular shop , won't have to worry about brushes for some years:) . greetz , diemai

    3 cm sinking

Sorry , if with my questions I should have refreshed a previous argument between our Romanian members , this was not my intention , not at all:nuhuh: ! There was a similar thing going on in the forums recently about one "Twisted Dick Jerk"() , an argument about who first came out with that lure ! I also do try out many different designs that I pick up here and there (exclusively for my own fun , not to commercialize) . Just a part of my lure designs are coming from my own brains ! To avoid such troubles like actually displayed in here for once more , I always try to mention the origin of my creations , and what I probably have altered on the original design . But still I like that idea about the rear hook hanger on the back ! greetz , diemai
  8. @ Fish_N_Fool Also I'd like to congratulate to your success , you've finally made it ! greetz , diemai

    3 cm slow sinking

In particular I like the one in center , both in terms of body shape and color pattern , these "perch tiger stripes " are a little different ! greetz , diemai

    3 cm sinking

I find this to be a very smart idea about the different position of the rear hook hanger , very well thought of:yes: ! I guess , that such a feature won't have the desired balance effect on larger baits , but on such tiny lures it obviously does work:yes: ! greetz:yay: , diemai

    3 cm sinking

What do you mean by "rolling" on the drop ? Dose it spin around its length axis or it shakes the belly left and right or even only flips over to descend back down:? ? And does the unusual position of the rear hook hanger has to do with that action ? Lot of questions for a tiny lure , lol:) ! Concerning your pictures not becoming too clear , check , whether your camera has a "close range detail" option ! Mine , though quite a cheapie , has such , it takes well focussed pics that way(most likely:huh:) at a range of 10 to 30 cm(4" to 12") , but demanding a calm hand or even a tripod mount . greetz , diemai
  14. @ rock Great tutorial , thanks a lot ! Being a metal worker , I have made some football jighead molds just the same way , that you have described . But instead of modelling clay I have utilized beeswax for checking the proceedial of the cavities . But the trick with the pencil and steelwool is new to me , thanks a lot again ! PS : Nice musky you've got there , that's what all the tinkering is about:yes: ! greetz:yay: , diemai
  15. @ paul8877 At first : Welcome to TU ! To get a first idea about weighting wooden lures you may check my thread "new Banana lure"(page 5) , there are some pics in there , diplaying how I test my lures for proper balance . In the thread "looks that simple the Finnish way" there is a full instructional video available on how to carve minnow baits from balsa wood . The way of glueing in lead sheet displayed in there rather depends a bit on estimation and/or experience , but after having made a few lures , you'll get there , too:yes: ! Utilize the search function to find these threads ! Otherwise I can only second Vodkaman's statements above ! good luck:yay: , diemai

    3 cm sinking

A pity , that the pics got out of focus , but I like this one best......it's about it's shape:yes: ! Did you make them sinking by intention ? But I guess , those tiny bits simply aren't buoyant enough to be able to carry lip plus hardware:? ! Anyway , nice work achieved at that small size ! greetz , diemai

    EYEOPENER

We have a showroom about all kinds of horror here in Hamburg called the "Hamburg Dungeon" , quite an attraction for visitors and tourists:eek: . Guess , that they should display some of your creations in there as well ! greetz , diemai
  20. Looks great , not like a first attempt at all(at least not like mine so many years ago)and would surely coax some strikes ! And.........ocassional blood on the fingers is the lubricant of a successful tinkerer and fisherman ! greetz , diemai

    test tanks

There was a similar thread in here quite a while ago , finally someone(sorry , don't remember the name , it was supposively one of the younger guys)got to dig out a ditch in the backyard for lure testing . greetz:) , diemai

    Mouse Spoon

Thank you for your kind words , John:yes: , in fact I have learned the metal working basics during my apprenticeship 30 years ago . And I also like fishing "metal" a lot , though many guys say , it's bound to lose against all the modern kinda lures nowadays:huh: ! greetz:yay: , Dieter

    snake skin fish

I like those carved details of mouth and gillplates:yes: ! Also the scale pattern is one of it's own , did you draw every single scale with a felt pen , looks like that to me ? Nice work , greetz , diemai
  25. @ hazmail Just watched it on the news , by now 80 killed , but more people feared to be found dead:( . Very sorry to say, but I guess , mankind has to pay the prize of having violated "Mother Earth" for so long , no matter on which side of the planet such currently happens . But on the other hand , wildfires are nothing strange in Australia , I guess:huh: ? I've even heard , that since ancient times the Aborigines have periodically set certain parts of the bushland on fire as a possibility for a sort of recreation of nature ! But the problem nowadays is , that the cities and towns grew too close into nature , since everone likes to look at trees and animals rather than streets and buildings , gazing out of his window . all the best , diemai
