Don't think so , ...not with contents as extensive . Many angling or lure-related sites have luremaking sections though , .....and there are also more local sites in different countries , but rather impossible to participate , if one does not understand the particular languages . Nevertheless I find it worthwile to drop by , if one could find sucha site , often interesting things to see , even if one cant understand the text or video audios . ..........but none like TU , ....for sure ! @ mark poulson Mark , if you like watching this kind of footage , ..check out this YouTube channel : http://www.youtube.com/user/Luresinaction?feature=watch .......also this Canadian channel : http://www.youtube.com/user/OntarioFishing?feature=watch .............some really cool vids accessible in there , for example this one : Cheers , Dieter

I absolutely agree , .......through the years I've had a few homemades that turned out to swim like the one in your video , Dave , ....considered them as rejects , .......because of TU I know better now . cheers , Dieter

@ Vodkaman Thanks for sharing this little clip , Dave , ........a very picturesque demonstration of the hunting action . I had assumed , that it would be like this , but now I know for sure ! greetz , Dieter

I already have a certain swim in mind , ......the biggest one of our fishing club's ponds , .....caught two pike on a homemade topwater lure in there back in May , ...unfortunately lure fishing is restricted June thru July , ..so I've gotta wait until August . This spot seems to be a bank for pike , .....I've seen them chasing there again last week , whilst fishing for carp and stocker trout . You had already watched the video of the first catch back then : http://www.tackleunderground.com/community/index.php?/topic/26430-first-pike-2013-on-a-homemade-topwater-lure/ Guess I had never posted the second video on TU , .......same spot , same lure , but a bit larger pike : That shallow bay is a great spot , ...and if I should succeed with the "Buzz Plug" , then it might be right there , ....2-3 feet deep and quite a bit of weed growth , .....should be perfect conditions for the use of this lure . greetz , Dieter

If I should catch on it , I'll surely give notice in here , Ben , ....but delivery would take up to three weeks , I guess , ...most likely because of a hold up at the local custom' office at Frankfurt International , I suppose . I wonder , if that one could break the spell on me of not catching pike on buzzbaits ! Cheers , Dieter

Thanks a lot , Ben , ....could not help it and just ordered for one off US Ebay , ........in the video attached to the site that you have linked , it appears to be meaty enough to attract local pike , ....though I haven't had much success with any kind of "common" buzzbaits so far ! Always fond of a little out-of-the-box lure designs , ..........greetz , Dieter

Never seen it before , .......yet a very interesting design , .......would surely have some ballast in the tail end . Thanks a lot for sharing , Ben , ......Greetz , Dieter

Your central wire shaft looks a bit thin to me , .......will hold up against any fish , but would need frequent tuning , that might still weaken the wire after a while , I guess . Two methods to prevent the first prop binding with the second one , ....first is bending a small loop into the shaft behind the first prop , similar bent like a splitring , .....but this is only practical with thinner wires like double bladed inline spinner shafts . An easier method , especially for thicker wire , is making an 90° offset kink downward behind the first prop blade and kink the wire back rearward to slide over the second prop . Off course small metal bearing beads MUST be rigged behind each of the props for smooth spinning(will not work withoud beads) . Both methods only work , if the central wire shaft is glued in fixed into the rear part of the lurebody , otherwise the timber part would slide down to bind at least the first prop . I have made a few similar lures before , I achieve a fixed thru-wire form by bending the belly hookhanger to the wire(like with a thru-wired crankbait) , ......the rear portion of the wire form can be lead through a center bore passing through the blank lengthwise , to accomodate the offset belly hookhanger portion of the wireform one needs to cut a slot into the belly long enough to slide the belly hook hanger to it's final position , ........I'm using a Dremel cutting wheel an a small 2mm router bit for this . This slot is made at the thicker front portion of the rear section of the lure . For added strength , a bearing surface and a nice transition I would insert a matching pop rivet head at both ends and let the wire shaft pass through , .......the entire assembly is epoxied into the lure blank ,...... after curing epoxy remainders at the slot portion ahead of the belly hookhanger are worked flush to the lure blank's surface . All bends , kinks and prop rigging is done after the final topcoats of the lure are done , requires extra care not to mess up finally , ...probably test your intented assembly on the unfinished blank first to get some practice , you'd only lose the wire shaft this way , but gain a certain grade of experience and know-how . Good luck , diemai

Forgot to mention , ......after the 48 hrs soak I'd sligtly sand down the rosen woodgrain , ....disadvantage is ,that after the 6-8 dips one would have to clear lipslots , belly slots and pilot hole from cured propionate to fit in all parts again(or one furnishes these after dipping entirely ???) , ....I do not mind this added effort , since I know , that this way even the interiors of the lure receive a little protection and sealing , no hazzles when trimming the blank with ballast in a waterbucket .Greetz , Dieter

After my experiences propionate does adhere to sheer timber ONLY ! Tried it on linseedoil-treated and woodsealer-treated blanks before , ...also dipped blanks with glued in wire forms , ...could peel off the cured propionate of the treated blanks and the glue portions afterwards . I now soak my sheer blanks in a thinner mix of prop for 48 hours for deep penetration , afterwards I'd dip them into a thicker mix for 6-8 times ,sand smooth inbetween first dips to clear out bubbles , .......afterwards I sand and prime , paint and topcoat ! greetz , diemai

@ Vodkaman Dave , for casting into the wind I'd rather design timber lures with a fatter rear end , so that they could carry some more ballast in their tails allowing them to fly levelled like a dart , would work for topwater lures and sinking gliders alike . Sinking poppers are somewhat paradoxic in my opinion , ...also one would have to work them quite fast to maintain depth level . Many years ago I had made a metal lure knock-off after a picture in a lure collectors book , ...due to it's design it frequently rose to the surface and broke through it , yet sporting a nice wiggle , at least whilst still swimming below . http://www.creekspeak.com/Educational/metal%20baits/metal.htm The one on top "Wicked Wiggler" ! Being rather unexperienced back than , I've dumped my two spoon versions somewhere , since I was not convinced by their action , ....guess ,I've gotta look to find them again ! Greetz , Dieter

Thanks a lot , Dave and Ben, .....and Dave , it really was like that , using ordinary poppers thru a one week holiday late summer in a Hamburg gravel pit many years ago. Perch and sometimes pike were appealing well to the topwater lures , but I noticed that on one particular more windy day , that caused a bigger chop on the water , the strikes became significantly less thn the days before . So back at work after the holiday I started sketching around and finally came up with this special mouth design of a topwater bait . Only took a few weeks to get done with a few lures in perch and pike size , still could try them in autumn that very year before temps finally chilled down too much for topwater action , .....just to find , that the design had stuck , perch and pike could obviously still locate such topwater lures , even if there was a little spray on the waves caused by local strong north western winds . Off course for best possible casting and working such lures , wind direction should be right from behind , otherwise one would have to face drawbacks . Now thinking about making some new versions with an improved prop for even more noise ! Greetz , Dieter

@ pat28 ......... should have thought about that option , ...it was too early in the morning when I typed my first post , LOL , ......off course this is the only way to go ! Hope it won't become a pain in the butt for you , ...I guess it would take accurate determination about the sealer layer thicknesses on the single divider boards and the matching slot's widths ? I had made similar before many years ago , .....but just a couple of lure-hanging dividers stuck onto two base rails inside of a plastic tool box , no single lure compartments like in your homemade plywood box , ...I've used aluminium sheet , so I did not have such troubles . @ mark poulson Good idea about the drain holes , ...also thinking about placing some kind of desiccants inside of the box to soak up eventual moisture , ...seen similar in a local tackle shop's catalog before meant to keep hooks rust free inside of plastic stowaway boxes . ............But ,Mark , ..thought it never rains in southern California , LOL ? Cheers , Dieter

Hi , folks , Here is some footage taken last Friday , .....one of my earlier home-designed topwater lure models had scored on first cast , after having tried all different kinds of diving lures before . I had already posted this particular lure in my gallery about 5 years ago , ....in the describtion I wrote a bit on how I've shaped those "Splasher" topwaters back then . http://www.tackleunderground.com/community/index.php?/gallery/image/2577-the-splasher/ Thanks for your interest , .....cheers , diemai
-
Great and neat work , ........but I wonder , how you've applied the sealer to the deepest inside of the compartments ? Greetz , diemai
-
.........Ben , ...it was about the lips only !Cheers , Dieter

I'm applying water-based glitter jelly onto the finished paint job straight from the bottle and smear it over the lure with my fingertip . A coat of matte acrylic clear insures a better adhesion of the glitter flakes after the jelly has dried away , so not too many flakes would get into the epoxy brush whilst topcoating afterwards . Just working with handbrushes ,don't have any airbrush gear ! Cheers , diemai

Had a brief look around , ....I remember to have bought these many years ago from a local shop here in Germany , .....it's on British Ebay , ....Europe shipping stated , .....you've gotta contact them to ask for overseas shipping .Largest size 25mm, ...almost 1" , ...don't think , you'd find the pointed tips style , ...never saw these in gold finish ! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/20x-Propeller-Blades-Spintec-Spinner-Lure-Parts-Flying-C-Salmon-Game-Sea-Fishing-/261167137493?pt=UK_SportsLeisure_Fishing_Lures_JN&var=&hash=item3ccec642d5 Good luck , diemai PS : Just thought of it , ......these props will not fit onto screweyes , ...but 1,0mm wire passes through the center hole , they're rather made for spin flies , ...but it should not be a problem on the 25mm size to extend the center hole , ...enough "flesh" around it ! It requires a 2,0mm hole to twist through an ordinary stainless screweye(not the larger muskie sized ones), .....the thread twists through the sheed metal and as the unthreaded shank is a bit thinner in outer diameter than the threaded portion , the prop spins freely with a 2,0 mm hole , ......been there , done that .
-
http://www.mooreslures.com/ offers a muskie lure prop in brass color , ......but they are pretty large , scratching 2" from tip to tip , if my memory serves me right , ...check PDF catalog at page 33 .Got some down the basement in my component storage boxes somewhere , ...could take exact measurement , if interested . But you should be aware of tarnishing . cheers , diemai
