  1. @garyo1954 Too bad about multiple shipping fees , ...but as it seems , amazon is not something like a mailorder shop but a kind of agency bringing customers and different vendors together , ...meaning that various items are not shipped from only one location . I was wondering about that Australian book , .......I had ordered it thru the US amazon site and payed in Dollars , .......but later I've found that the envelope was packed and sent from Germany . If I would have ordered from the German amazon site , I would have had to pay about 50% to 70% more after currency exchange to local vendors , .........mysterious ways of business to me ! This book about spring-loaded fishing items looks very interesting , .......thanks for the link ! Can't buy it right now ,........ just returned from north Germany's largest tackleshop this afternoon , ....the missus seems to be a little upset about the bill I ran up , .......she won't show , .......but I know she is ! Greetz , Dieter
  2. @ garyo1954 Concerning Carl F. Luckey's "Old Fishing Lures And Tackle" , ......this publication seems to be frequently re-newed , updated issues are put out time after time , ....though Mr. Luckey sadly passed away by the time of the launch of that particular issue shown . Here is another book , that I've purchased recently , so it does not appear in that video of mine : http://www.amazon.co...p/dp/1865130761 It's an Australian issue , I guess , .......this is the way that most pages are build up , a picture of each lure and a table listing with running depths at different line-outs , manufacturer , etc . Nice lure , your Chippewa , .......the twisted metal blade should provide some extra flash to the bait . I've made a casting spoon like this recently , ......but somehow I'm not satisfied with it's action , spins pretty slow and also does not generate too much disturbance in the water ,....but I finally need to give it a chance , ...who knows ? But in conjunction with a hardbait body like yours such twisting blade really should stir something up , .....just because of the added flash . And whether summer heat is on or not , ........you won't believe , what kinda items can be used for(catching) lures , .......I've seen vids of pike caught on a digicam and also a carrot , either a picture of Baltic Sea cod on a simple cigarette lighter rigged with a hook and sinker . Greetz , Dieter
  3. @ Sonny.Barile Ok , thanks for setting things straight , .......I can absoluty imagine someone getting a little mad about spending money for something , that is available for free elsewhere , ..sorry ! Guess , you're talking about this one , ....obviously still available : http://www.amazon.com/Complete-Book-Tackle-Making/dp/1558217215 Dunno , if you've ever ordered books at Amazon , .......check out all options by clicking on (amount)"new" or (amount)"used", as prices and conditions do vary depending on selling stores listed there . good luck , Dieter
  4. Just wondering about your stat "turned off of lure building books less than 40 years old" , ..........how come that you're seemingly not that fond of more recent issues ? Nevertheless , ...here my own opinions about some : I'd be interested in the titles of those older issues , that you are possibly refering to , .......I'm a kinda fan of older lure books as well . @garyo1954 I've come across this book as well on YouTube or so , .....at least the advertisment for it , ........thanks for linking , anyway , .........nothing bad about it , if you've found it by Google already out in the web . cheers , diemai
  5. @ quickdraw Have you tested your rattling lures in a bathtub or just by shaking them in your hand ? I've found , that bath tub testing is a great way to determine about rattle sound variations , ...as the tub amplifies and transmits sound very well ! Thanks for sharing your findings . @ mangeboy79 What a nifty little tool there in your link , .......haven't seen such before , thanks for sharing , ........I had tried closure plugs out of timber before , but to me metal just provides a sharper and louder sound(the question is , which sound pattern would fish prefer ) ! Cheers , Dieter
  6. It should be , Mark , ...I'm planning on same company's stuff like the 5 min glue , that I'm using for so many years now , ......never had any issues , ....the stuff is too expensive to cause some . Thanks , ....greetz , Dieter
  7. @ quickdraw Thanks a lot for your picture , ...says more than words . But you've said before , that you were a plumber , so I guess , that those copper end caps and recessed tubings belong to your usual materials for work , ...in fact I haven't seen such before , ...pretty much suited for the purpose , indeed ! @ mark poulson Thanks for your describtions and sharing your findings as well , Mark , ....gets me thinking , too ! Gotta try two minutes epoxy glue instead of my usual five minutes stuff , .......that one should do the job as well ? Definately gonna try this metal disk assembly for next winter's lures , ....I'm kinda lazy these summer days ! Thanks again , ....greetz , Dieter
  8. @ quickdraw Some good points in your stats there , ..........gets me thinking ! I'm only concerned about 100% safe sealing off against water sepage , that's why I'm using putty or epoxy glue to fill up the hole over the drum-heads(ends of rattle casing).........but I probably should make something similar to the "Clackin' Rap" for comparison , .......if I won't try , I would not find out about a possible difference ! But in fact after sanding back flush that putty , -or glue filling it would remain as thick as only 1/20" or a tad more . Also I'm a bit concerned about glue overflow into the bore possibly binding the BB's inside(I always fill in two , as I've found , that these are louder than just one or even three BB's) , when fixing metal discs to close the rattle chamber , ........this is why I've though about these casings displayed in my video . I've even thought about trying to solder the lids of my rattle casings, not just beat them flush against the tube's ends , .......this way they would be waterproof and I could also let them protrude over the lure's flanks without any filler , ........but also I'm concerned , that the heating-up might affect the BB's somehow , or the solder seam would turn out imperfect and the rattle chamber would still soak up water . Just my .............cheers , diemai
  9. @ quickdraw , @ RayburnGuy , ..............yeah , ....I really never thought about copper being the best option for this rattle construction displayed in my video , ..........thanks for sharing your experiences , Ben . On a longtime gone German site somebody once wrote about his own rattle construction on larger glidebaits and crankbaits , ..........he'd drill a crosswise hole through the lurebody , glue in a kind of lining for the hole made out of some plastic tubing(feltpen casings or similar) , so that the balls can roll back and forth without friction . He'd make countersunks to either end of the hole to fit in certain small value coins issued by the former German Democratic Republic , which vanished into history in 1990 , ............these coins were small and made of a kinda aluminium alloy , well suited for the purpose . He'd carefully glue them in with epoxy and filled up the holes with polyester car putty , after curing working down flush to body outline , .........this stuff cures very hard , thus transmits the sound very well , .........I've used as well sometimes . greetz , Dieter
  10. I had considered about copper pipe as well , but most likely I could only gather 1/2" dia. from the scrapyard of my work , .....bit too large , I guess ? Also the copper pipes are a bit heavier and I figure out , that also the sound might turn out not as loud as if using brass , since copper is softer , .......aluminium and stainles steel would be another option , but the latter is harder to work down . I'm purchasing these brass tubes from local hardware stores or tool marts , ...widely available , at least brass and aluminium . greetz , diemai
  11. Sorry , ....don't know any place of purchase either , but I make mine like this : Please click on "YouTube" title above start picture to view video straight on "YouTube" so you could read further explanations in there . Cheers , diemai
  12. Hahaha , Dave , ...not my intention to receive baits for free ! I was just that much amazed about the action of this stick , ...just felt like doing it ! Thanks , mate , ......cheers , Dieter
  13. Hi , folks , Last Sunday I've cast a homemade lure for the first time , built and given to me by TU member "littleriver" a while ago . I was absolutely delighted about the performance and action of that lure , just had to do a little video review about it , .......straightaway at the fishing club's pond with my hatcam , .........though the bait has never caught me a pike that day , I'm 100% certain that it surely would some day . For those interested ,....... here is the link to my YouTube upload , ....just thought that I would share it in here , too : Thanks a lot again , Vic , ........tight lines , Dieter
  14. The one in center just got it's first fish this Sunday , ...cast for stocker trout in that pond shown , a small pike nailed it instead : greetz , 61diemai
  15. Just made this prototype this morning , .......again hand-shaped blades made from 0,5mm stainless steel sheet and a body of copper wire . The "quick skirt" is stuck onto a little flanged brass bush(a pop rivet would work either) . The 45mm long blades have been polished as usual , but afterwards annealed with a soldering torch to give them that certain "blued" look , ......together with ther black/blue skirt this provides a general darker appearance to that shallow running spinner . Tested it in the tub this evening , ...the blades kick to spin nicely and reliably after about one foot of retrieve , .......what was quite amazing to me is that some strands of the skirt move forward to almost touch the inner cupping of the revolving blades , though one would expect them to be dragged rearward by the oncoming current caused by the retrieve , ..........there must be quite a lower water pressure being generated straight behind the blades , ....interesting ! This way the skirt reminds me a bit to an octopus with constantly moving tentacles . Greetz , diemai

    Gold Brother spinnerbait

Did you quit on glidebaits , Janne ? Nice and heavy spinnerbaits , welldone , ....do Finnish pike go for these ? Greetz , Dieter
  17. Put these together this morning , tested them in the tub tonite , .......all working fine , still spinning on the drop and the brass weight also does not get to spin , even tough it's only 8mm in diameter , thus I could not assemble the front wireform too much off-centered , there fore not much of a keelweight function evolved , .......but obviously still enough ! These blades are about the smallest I can still beat to their cupped shape with a ballpeen hammer , though it still comes somewhat finacky , .....not much material left to hold them whilst working . Gonna find out about the fish's opinion by coming weekend , .........greetz , diemai
  18. A size comparision of my initial model and one of the smaller spinners I made this morning , ....brass weight is 8mm in dia , ....12mm dia. on the bigger one . Greetz , diemai
  19. Made some more of this style last week , also with brass heads and homemade blades . The blades are of a narrower type this time , therefore I made the brass heads a bit shorter , as more slender blades do not provide as much lift to a spinner. Sadly I've already lost the bottom one to a snag yesterday , ...but I'm gonna make more for coming weekend again , as these lures do really perform well . Greetz , diemai
  20. Thanks a lot , Vic , ...have thought about this as well , but I was concerned about a slant face(top longer than bottom) might generate more lift to the lure , which surely is counterproductive . And a bullet shaped front weight would cause some kinda indent between tip and front wire shaft , which would even be worse to catch waterweeds and drifting debris than this 90° offset face , ........and if I'd place the wireshaft centered at the point of a bullet weight , I'd render the entire lure spinning , lose the "no-linetwist" feature , that I like so much about such spinners . ...........and do I want the lure to be aero -, or better said , hydrodynamic , ........like this now it would surely generate more disturbance and vortices in the water to be sensed by the fish's lateral line , ...and as long as any vortices won't hinder the blade to spin properly , ...why not ? Thanks again , ...greetz , Dieter

    3 x Trou-T

Are these jerkbaits or seatrout wobblers , Janne ! Never heard about seatrout taking glidebaits , though , .......for freshwater rivers or the Baltic ? Recognized your distinctive style just at a glance , anyway , LOL , ....great looking lures as usual ! Greetz , Dieter

    Little beauties !
  23. Great carving work , Mark , ......you're a sculpturing artist !
  24. Sorry , made a mistake in this describtion above , .....the bore thru the brass drum is 2,0 mm dia. , not 1,5 mm as stated ! .........Otherwise the open loop of stainless welding wire 1,0mm won't fit thru , naturally .
  25. To fix and position the front wire shaft reliably to the brass weight I've furnished a little groove with my "Dremel" cutting wheel and extended it lengthwise a bit with a small 1,5mm router bit . The shorter tag end of the front shaft's open wire loop is bent and pulled back into that groove(after having connected the rear spinner shaft)with pliers , snipped off and ground flush to the brass drum's circumferrence .
