  1. Dont I feel like the village idiot. LOL. I had in line spinners on the brain not spinnerbaits. I am going to blame it on making up a bunch of them yesterday for a pike tourney this weekend. You all know how it goes, one track mind. But balance still does play a large factor on both types.
  2. Awesome Baits! I see why your bummed. I wish one of our resident expert painters would jump in here. Because that would be sooooo much easier than foil, like you were saying earlier. I have been thinking about it for a couple hours now and I cant think of a reason why epoxy would stick to foil and not the slick surface on the paint. But there must be a reason. Is there any chance that it was just a bad spot on the bait? Did you notice when you were sanding it off to repair if it wanted to chip more or not? How many coats of epoxy did you use?
  3. "But getting some of the foil effect without the work is so seductive" I agree!!! Thats why I hated to see you give up so quick. Still a great thought though. But just thinking out loud (or in this case through my keyboard) foil is a slick surface and yet epoxy adheres to it. What could the difference be?
  4. What would have happened if you would have done a coat of D2T between the aluminum paint and the Createx? Or a clear coat of some kind between them that maybe the Createx could adhear to? I guess what I am getting at is the idea is brilliant! Do you really want to just give up so soon? Is there maybe a different solution? I am definately no paint expert but you have a great idea here that seems to just maybe have a little problem. Might want to toss around a few ideas on the board before throwing the idea out.
  5. Wow!! 5 Bucks for spinners small jaw. your getting a great deal. The majority of my Pike spinners retail at the sporting goods store here in town for $15.00 to $17.00. Of course they get a pretty good chunk of profit off of that. In fact I think they make more off them than I do sometimes but oh well. They also have a lot more over head than I do and I do this more for fun than anything else. I make great money off the rods I sell in thir store so I have a good deal going. Anyway back on topic. Balance vs action of the spinner are important. As you get into making these you will see what I mean. Adding more weight and larger Blades and larger bucktails can really affect the action in different ways. It is important to get the three things balanced so they work together for the correct action. Also as Bruce pointed out, Beads are not just for decoration. They also act as bearings and keep things from hanging up.
  6. I have been following this post because I needed to purchase a replacement also. However my daughter just purchased a Humingbird 141c for me for me as a gift and I am actually very happy with it. It doesnt have the GPS capabilities, but I have my portable gps I would rather use anyways because I already have the maps and software purchased for it. But for the couple hundred dollar price tag I am happy with it.
  7. The thread that Macbor posted a link to was great! What a fun thread to read through, and better yet for you guys who were a part of it. I am almost getting excited about this plastic stuff. LOL
  8. This will be fixed real quick. No way will any state risk losing recreational boating income to some stupid law not meant for them. It just wont happen. If you are worried about it though notify your congressman using the link provided.
  9. Actually chas, what you want to do would work. the only thing I wonder is would it be worth it? How long of a drive is it versus how long of a charge would you get? Also you need to make sure your charger is not drwing to many amps for the outlet. Otherwise you would be good to go.
  10. Heres a link to building a simpe version. Its not completely automated though.Copy Carver the woodcarvers copy machine Also look in the home brewtools section at redg8ters thread. His is pretty impressive.
  11. By the way, I was joking. I have no idea what they weigh. Happy birthday though!
  12. 2.7 lbs for the one on the left. 2.1 for the one on the right. No prize for you.
  13. """This is why you need to contact a professional not take advice from anonymous guys on a website. Feel free to contact me if you need anymore information or have other questions.""""" Sorry but I did get a chuckle out of this one.
  14. Dont know how many of you all out there believe in ghosts. Ive always tried to keep an opened mind. Never seen anything myself but always thought well anything is possible. Now days with all the video special effects and everything out there you never know what to believe, but check this page out. Try to keep an opened mind all the way through. It only takes a minute or two. Click on the link and watch the picture closely. Watch all the details, the chairs, computer, picture between the window, and especially the flowers on the table. Also turn the volume up and tell me if you can make out what is being said. It is really soft but listen close. I want to know if I imagined what I heard or if we hear the same words being spoke. 15. 100+ LOL it was just over 50 here today. Wind blowing like crazy. Did see one little mosquito though. I actually broke a sweat packing the gear to the bank of the lake we were fishing. I doont know what I would do in 100+
  16. And a third one here! Hope your out fishing and enjoying this one.
  17. This was definately an interesting read this morning. Novas just a bit to hard core for me. Well im headed fishing with Alex today, but this thread kind of got me thinking, im going to wash my nuts first. Might as well start the season off right.
  18. While your at it ya might as well join MyFishFinder.com Its Iceshantys sister site. Both great sites
  19. Im currious, did ya build these while you were supposed to be working to?
  20. Ive caught two fish at once on a fly rod before but I was using two different flies. I also snagged Two at once before. But I have never had two bite the same lure and manage to land them. In fact I cant even say Ive done it and not landed them. You guys are good!
  21. Awe 40 rods sounds a whole lot more than what it is. We are not talking high dollar Gloomis or St croix. These are cute little 50" one piece rods I got a steal on. When its all said and done I think I have $7.00 A rod tied up in them. So dont go thinking I am to generous. Alex would rather fish one of them for perch than his good expensive rods we have made together though. Its rather depressing when I see him grab one of them off the shelf, but oh well kids will be kids. They dont care how much it cost its the fish on the end of the line they care about.
  22. Your 100% right Rookie, but on wood baits if you heat them you create the gassing which in turn creates more bubbles. Your method would work perfectly on everything else though, and is exactly what I do to get bubbles out of the flexcoat finish on rods. A light flame with my alchohol burner is all it usually takes. I was just thinking of something that would be foolproof every time. Consistent from bait to bait. Under x amount of pressure the bubbles should be crushed and the finish would be perfect every time. Shouldnt matter if the epoxy is heated or not thinned or not. Somebody smarter than me come tell me this is not going to work. I know there are a bunch of you out there.
  23. My opinion for what its worth, hehehe. They both have there place. I am a huge spider wire fan. Nothing better than being able to rip a big ol pike right out of a nasty azz weed patch without worrying about snapping off your line. Also when jigging for Lake trout in 200 feet of water I get way better hook sets with spider wire as opposed to mono. Do you know how much strech there is when setting a hook with 200 feet of mono out? Enough I had to set the rod as high as possible reel up all slack and do it one more time just to make sure it was set. Now I can set the hook by raising the rod tip approx 4-5ft and I feel fish. Another spot when fishing for rainbows we can not catch them on anything but 2 or 3 lb test mono. And 2lb test mono is the best. Spider wire no matter the diameter just wont fish there doesnt matter the color or anything. It just will not catch fish. We have sat side by side with that being the only difference and one caught fish, the other didnt. So i guess my advice is to maybe have both setups and use whichever fits the situation your in.
