  1. Im not sure whats more interesting the bait or the description.
  2. Great Idea!! Better Yet Why dont we contact the moderators and have them make an entire section dedicated to homade tools. We could call it Homebrewed Tools. Im just kidding ya. That sander looks like it would work good.
  3. Thats cool. What an imagination someone had to come up with that idea.
  4. The tied Bucktails look awesome! As far as the other componants, if I remember right you were limited with what you had on hand for supplies and they hadnt sent the correct ones. Am I correct? If so the correct sizing as Bruce pointed out in that post and diemai did above is critical to a good bait. But keep it up. your off to a great start.
  5. Construction paper is avaliable pretty much every where here in the states. Im not sure how to describe it other than it is thick paper and comes in various colors. Kids use it a lot in school for different projects. It does sound like it would break up, but you would be surprised how strong it is. It takes a pretty good rap with a hammer and chissel to separate the two halves. I was taught this method years ago in highschool woodshop for making exact duplicate halves of turned products. Made shelves and such for my parents. So I just took it and used that in my lure building. Here is a link to a description of what the paper is exactly. Construction paper - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia I am sure that it is available to you somewhere. If you have kids, ask them.
  6. I use wood glue. And yes just touch the blank lightly to a belt sander or whatever you have to remove the majority of the remaining paper to get a good solid bond when gluing for the final process. Its not necesary to remove every little trace of it so dont over sand it and mess up the matching of the two halves. It will be solid even with a trace of the paper left, but do try and remove what you can. Between the wood glue and the epoxy top coat you should have plenty of stength. Glad I could be of some help. Tommorow there should be more people on here that do more lathe work than I do so maybe someone will have better ideas or an easier way. But it looks like its just me in the middle of the night tonight.:lol:Good luck Deep Black and be sure to post some results as you get them.
  7. John, First of all welcome to Tackle Underground! Glad ya found the site. As for an answer to your question here is my solution since I have a tendancy to over build everything and dont trust screw eyes. Why I dont trust them, I dont know. I have never yet had one break or pull out. But I just like to do through wire construction if at all possible. First I start by gluing my blank together with a piece of construction paper sandwiched between the halves so the lure can be split straight down the center after it has been turned. (The paper keeps the glue from bonding the wood permanently yet is strong enough to hold together on the lathe to turn it).Once split into two halves all groves for the wire, rattles, weight, hook hangers or anything else you feel the need to add can be placed in the wood. Then all your conections can be made and fastened. When you have the conections together and in place your ready to glue the lure together permanently.
  8. I would hope that should the it ever be needed in the future the donate option would be back. It is nice if the sponsers are able to pick up the tab, but I for one would be more than willing to pay to play. And I could be wrong with this, but the donation option must have been some time ago. When you have members paying out of their own pockets to travel acrossed the country and some from other countries to attend a weekend get together based on knowing each other through this site. I think you would get donations. Especialy if it was made known that they were needed. But that leads me to another question. I listed here as a buisiness because I do sell my rods and tackle. I have a bunch of various extra supplies that I was considering listing on ebay eventually but would rather see them go to members here. If we are not looking to make a profit of an item but just to get rid of it can we pay to list there also? Or is that still not allowed? I guess I am asking is if an exception can be made if we come to an agreement ahead of time?
  9. Very nice KB. Is that a real feather inlay or a decal?
  10. could you post an auction # basseducer
  11. Mine was not the Devcon brand, but I doubt that was the difference. I was using west marine epoxy, but I assure you it did foam. And foam big. I only did it once. Never felt the need to repeat the process as I had learned from my mistake.
  12. I remember the first time I did it. I was not sure what was going on or when it was going to stop foaming. It was a large batch of epoxy because of course, I know what I am doing, I know everything! I invented some pretty creative cuss words. And I was just lucky enough to have an audience. My whole family was watching.
  13. I cant believe there were no Bob jokes from the Ciallis commercials in this whole thread.
  14. Hey Mark, Dont thin your epoxy with Isoprpyl alcohol. It does not work!!!! It does make some cool foam though dont it.
  15. For the most part the post office has been great for me. Have not lost anything or had anything damaged for my customers. However my rods are shipped in PVC pipe so it is next to impossible for them to be damaged. And are always insured. Tackle is sent priority mail and havnt had a problem yet. As for personal mail, thats another issue. My father sent me a letter that took 3 weeks to travel 90 miles. My sister in law sent my daughters glasses in the mail that took no joking aside and postmarks proved this, 3 months to travel the same 90 miles. So I dont know. It seems like if you go to the extra trouble to make sure you have proof you sent something or insure it, then they will go to the extra trouble to make sure it gets there.
  16. All you can do is post them and let the chit fly. Dont let whatever happens turn you away from the site though. Like redg8tr said the ones who came just for this will have there say and then go there merry way to some other site.
  17. Nice job 6feet! I am impressed. Great color matching in my opinion.
  18. 18 HOURS!!! I am soooo proud of you! What an acomplishment. But tell the truth, are you traveling? Did your compressor break? Wife cut your hose? Or did you honestly accomplish the 18hours on your own?
  19. Well Thats a bummer, I hope your son does go back and catches that fish again. As for the picts Haullin bass, take your time, the anticipation of the nonbelievers is great! Take all the time you need. And if ya need help PM or email me and we will get them posted. Your son has paid his dues for the no liscense. Its time to brag about the monster! Record or no record. Time to frame them picts and have a replica of the fish made to hang on the wall.
  20. Creekmonster has a good idea. Worth checking into. Looking forward to seeing the picts Haulinbass, but I had a feeling they would show up. Cant controll how fast our kids do things can we.
  21. That looks great.Have you tried the action outside of the toilet? Does it work as good on the long retrieves as it did there? I liked it.
  22. yes, look through the tutorials and use the search. tons of info on it. Granted they wont be the plastic injected glued together kind, but plenty of substutable materials.
  23. Ouch!!! I dont blame ya. Thats a big chunk of change.
