  1. Actually leader wire can be used and whoever said this on ebay has a valid point. What he is using is a single strand wire leader used commonly in saltwater fishing. The drawback to using this type of wire instead of the other wire mentioned above is that it can be prone to kinking also. While I have never had any of mine kink to the point where they would actually break, the kink depending on where it is could keep the blades from spinning properly, so less fish per lure is possible. But building replacements is part of the fun also so go for it.
  2. I was hoping someone else would answer that might have a bit more info than I do. I looked into this before a little bit and there are a couple of issues, finding the wire being the easiest of them. One is the wire needs to be bent prior to heat treating it to get the benefits of retaining the shape of the spinner bait frame. And the second is that I believe that a spinner bait company has a patent on this titanium frame so any that you make will be for personal use and can not be resold. So this is a lot of work and expense to go to for personal use only. It would probably be cheaper to buy some terminater spinner baits and repaint them to your own colors for your personal use unless someone has an idea to get around their patent.
  3. Wormy, I know this is your first post so I have no idea of your background or knowledge skill level or anything about you. So here are some suggestions. Some you may have done already, some may not even interest you. In the upper right portion of the screen you will see a Search forums button. If you use that in either the wire baits section, the plastics, or the hard baits section you will find an unlimited amount of information on making your own molds. I dont know if that is something that interests you but if money is tight well, your labor is free. Keep in mind you will be pouring lead so the final mold will need to be RTV or DWP or aluminum or something that will stand up to the heat. Otherwise you can click on the supplier directory on the left hand side. I believe Dels molds and Shawn Collins molds and Kmolds are all listed in there. They all could do a custom mold for you, but your talking about a bunch of money and possibly some time waiting. There are also some members on here that may be willing to do this with you but the mold would not be an aluminum mold, and I really dont knowanyone doing this for anyone other than themselves.
  4. And earlier I was half way through making a post that said dont do it. Thanks for the eye opener sagacious. I honostly thought that with what I had learned on here that it was not an option for 2 piece molds. In fact I had kind of scrapped it for even my one piece molds. Good post. You kick started the ol brain again.
  5. Cadman you beat me to it. Its hard to stray out of our favorite forums but necesary sometimes.
  6. 2" of lead is plenty to get a good pour. Your problem is somwhere else.
  7. On a possitive note, if you lose money for more than 3 years in a row the IRS will call your buisiness a hobby again and you can no longer use it to gain any of the advantagous write offs.
  8. Uh oh Do I feel another thread like the does anyone ever paint their reels coming? This could get interesting. Dave, you have way to much time on your hands! Man that looks like a real thumb.
  9. If I remember right the heat coils off of the curling iron were insulated, right? If so did you remove the insulation from them? Because I would have thought that would have been enough insulation to keep from getting zapped. I couldnt tell from the pict but it looked to me that way at least. I would say your cooper wire somehow cut the insulation on the coils somewhere and gave you the full 110 volts.
  10. Mud Hole would be a good place for a one stop shop for dirrections and parts.
  11. Funny you mention that about women. I feel the same about kids. My father and I have had this discussion over and over again. He said I have always outfished him and now its the same with my son. We think its because kids do things different everytime. They are more erratic while reeling. Alex will reel, reach down and grab a bite of sandwich, drop his pole, stretch yawn pick it up again, antch the bait up off the bottom, yank it free from whatever it may have been caught on and then reel again. If he wants a drink or anything mid reel or mid cast in fact he will drop it and get whatever it is. Drives me nuts. But you cant argue with the results. More often than not he either catches more fish than me, larger fish than me or catches the only fish. He will also ride around in the boat for an hour just staring at the lake before making a cast and then bam fish on. He catches far more fish with less casts than I do. I like to think he can read the water, but I just dont know. Maybe that part is just luck. If its not I wish he could teach me.
  12. I think its pretty cruel to stick a hook through the head of a live bluegill and call it your lure. Looks great DSV How does it swim?
  13. Thats to bad. But I think its just a sign of what is going to come everywhere. First a ban on lead shotgun shot. Next comes the tackle. Its just a matter of time before its everywhere. You can try using tin and some other alloys. If you do a search in the wire baits sections there are several threads on this. Nothing is as cheap or as easy to work with is the impression I get though.
  14. It would be a whole bunch cheaper and easier than having to stock all them colors and making up new ones. But what fun would that be?
  15. Black is where its at! Always my go to color.
  16. Alex makes most of his own baits so it wouldnt slow him down much. And theres no one I enjoy being outfished by more than him. Like Bruce says its the joy of being out there and who your there with. But you know that.
  17. Here ya go spike. This is from last weekend. Alex caught this on a Montana Fishing Rods jig and a Ghost Baits 7" curl tail worm. Hes always outfishing his dad. I was skunked for the day.
  18. Your Cat, dog, and Daughter all were accidently hooked in the same night. The cat must have got into some lures laying out and dragged them onto the floor and then all over the house. Then the dog managed to find a couple. Then while walking to the bathroom in the middle of the night the daughter managed to find one with her foot. Not only did she hook herself but she managed to sink both trebles past the barbs into her foot. I spent over an hour pulling lures out of people and animals at 3:00 am. The wife was not amused one bit. Now she thinks there need to be rules in the lure room like no lures left out on the work bench. I say no cats allowed in the lure room would be much better. I cant wait till my shop is done.
  19. A lot of their models are plastic. In fact I broke 2 open just last night. $25.00 down the drain but I wanted to mold the lip off of the good old husky Jerk.
  20. Well baitshop bill, Knot Wars decided to call it his. He turned it in to them. Its right there on the TV and on the web site for all to read. I dont believe he copied someone elses knot and turned it in. So in my mind its his knot. You can feel however you want to feel about it. So someone may have tied it sometime in the past. Who created it? I say Fish N Fool did.
  21. Try this link to the article. North American Fisherman Magazine - North American Fishing Club
  22. Well Done Fish N Fool!!!!! I guess I am going to have to learn your knot.
  23. Rick, I just read my post from yesterday and it kind of sounds like I am taking a jab at your bait and I cant edit that post for some reason. That wasnt my intent. Sorry, it the good old internet thing. Typing may not say what you intend kind of thing. What happened is I could only find a picture of a couple baits made by you when I searched and I dont think they were the ones you were refering to because I found where you had a patent pending. Thats what I was trying to ask is where can we see them because they sound cool also. Hope there wasnt a miscommunication. Shane
