  1. Aaron Martens trebles from gamakatsu are lighter and much sharper as well.
  2. It is the silicone that causes all the problems, the stuff you are using apparently isn't silicone based, I couldn't even clean the syringe well enough to not get the pitting and catastrophic result...I eliminated them and have never had an issue since...I was convinced that it was a clear issue and since I paid quite a bit for the product I went to the auto paint store and the guy showed me a panel in which they contaminated on purpose with a drop of silicone...spot on identical., my issue was so bad I used the devcon to try and finish the job for this guy and it did exactly the same thing just not as dramatic as the thinner urethane clear.
  3. Sorry I forgot to update, they will not not fit the mold without mods, they were simple mods and its exactly the beast I was looking for.
  4. This happened to me, it isn't the Devcon, it is the medical syringes you used...medical syringes use a lightweight silicone based lubricant on the rubber plungers..silicone is what caused the dimples so find some syringes to use that are dry and you wont have this issue...good luck.
  5. 10-4 I plan on ordering tomorrow, thx...I already know the guy doesn't like the sickle bend but I do believe it is substantially stronger.
  6. Cadman, have you ever seen the Mustad 32850 NP?...6/0 looks like a brute, may need to order some just to see
  7. I have the 32886, it has been fine for me but I use a different set up than some of the guys that have had me build some of my jigs for them, guy keeps rolling them over so I was hoping there was some sort of beast hook I have been missing...
  8. question for you guys...what is the heaviest / strongest 28/30 degree jig hooks that are available?...its for a flipping application using heavy braid so looking for options...thanks
  9. Funny ,I was considering buying this mold this morning and its the topic of discussion, I was wanting to use it with a shad tail swim bait which leads to the actual question...are you guys pouring shad tails for this ? or what are you buying?
  10. Sams club has a multi LED shop light that kicks butt imo, its not expensive and has plenty of light, I plan on buying several more very soon.

    plopper tail1

    Love the engineering schematic!
  12. Did you carve the tail piece or did you mold that?...awesome so far.
  13. I only use a few colors so I haven't the need for a lot of separation but make sure you keep them in lil sealed bags so the adhesive doesn't dry out on you, I keep those in a Tupperware deal so to lessen exposure as well...and even further than that I order quite often so I keep them as fresh as I can...nothing aggravates me more than having to add adhesive to get them to stick prior to the top coat.
  14. The thoughts I have on it is that wooden lures tend to be tweaked more than say a plastic mass produced one, if you think about it the plastic one was most likely built off a wooden master to do its thing, well that's all its going to do, most likely built out of plastic due to expense, ease of building and turn around times for profit, custom wooden lures are just that custom whether simple in design or complex, I'm not sure history will be as kind to plastic knock off lures regardless of beautiful paint jobs as it has been to guys like Fred Young and other custom crank bait guy... I build hundreds of wet logs a year but I prefer to try and make them last a bit, sure they will work au natural and yes they would be cheap, but it would certainly be cool if one is hanging on a display board somewhere 100 years from now....
  15. If it were me I would experiment just a bit with something else prior to coating your lures, maybe on an old lure or something and do a trial run, D2T imo is about the most forgiving stuff and works really well, just mix up a small amount once you have something ready to coat and see what she does, I add a drop of denatured alcohol to mine so that it thins a lil bit and the bubbles come out way quicker, the main thing is just getting the feel as to how to coat everything evenly so that the turner can do its job, you can apply some heat from a hair dryer or heat gun to flow it out a bit...it doesn't need much, too much heat the stuff will bubble up and mess up...so practice on something....maybe do several, put different amounts on...apply different amounts of heat just to watch what it does...its def a feel kinda thing, you can watch what rod builders do with epoxy on youtube...it all applys, good luck

Nice, did you hand craft the eyes as well?
  18. I will check that out, thanks.
  19. Phil Hunt sells blanks too I believe, PHlures...he has a wide assortment.
  20. I have the drop out stuff, quite a few molds and a RCBS pro melter, I was just interested in which mold guys preferred, I am leaning toward the do it mold with the bullet hed, and the multiple 1/8 and 1/4 cavitys but the hook sizes seem a tad small...idk and that's why I asked first...thanks for the reponse
  21. Thanks , I guess...lol, I will roll the dice like everyone else.
  22. Do you have a preference on a specific mold?...from experience I assume the plastic keeper/collar needs to be a good one, the rods we tend to use for this doesn't have enough backbone to straighten any hook esp. if you play them correctly, we catch giant redfish on fairly light wire small hooks so I wasn't too worried about the hook....just want an easy to pour mold that works!...thanks for your response
