  1. It probably depends on the paint. I have tried this before myself with limited good results. With water based Acrylics you might find that you can work in smaller sections at a time spray it on and use a rag or firm sponge to immediately wipe off the excess, then repeat. Or you can try just rubbing on the paint with your finger and wipe off the excess paint. Neither was perfect but it was pretty good. I was making a 'ghost' kind of pattern and after wiping on black scale lines I was spraying a thin layer of pearls and irridescents. Bottom line was that I didn't feel the bait was any more effective than a ghost of the same colors without the work. It did look cool but not worth the effort. Keep us posted if you come up with an effective means of doing it.
  2. Very cool, what kind of paint did you do the motorcycle with, and which clear coat brand?

Love all of these, just very nice work! I'd be honored for you to ship them to me!
  4. Matt is a hurtin puppy in more ways than one these days. But I watched him molding up some new baits today, one of which I think is just going to be a kick a.. blue gill / sunfish. And I think it was a mini me of the original Hoochi! And.... He is a carving machine, he needs to hurt is back more often! I have placed my order ahead of time for a weighted blue gill, I can't wait to see it sitting nose down on some bass bed this spring! :popcorn:Just get the net. I already know I need a big flippin stick or swimbait rod for these guys. Sorry Matt, had to spill the beans!
  5. Ditto on the lock washer, but I'd go as far as to get a new nut as well. Call the manufacturer of the ball and tell them what is going on and see if you can get it for free. Liability for faulty product... Then I'd use Locktite or whatever brand you want and add this to the threads before you tighten the nut down.
  6. Wow, I hope the Good Lord prevails and gives you and your family the wisdom and patience to deal with this. I would have an EXTREMELY hard time dealing with this and would hope he gets some jail house justice. And if he didn't the first time he came around it would be an eye for an eye or perhaps a 45 for an ear. So vent all you want and need, and let's pray that you and your daughter get the support you need.
  7. Really like that little bug. Glad to see it is an effective bait for you.
  8. Here is an example of taking every 3rd tooth out of a comb.
  9. Definitely buy their reducer to add with whatever transparent colors you buy. I like the gold toner, med/dark bass green, bass belly white, the super hide white, blending brown. I mix blending brown with the gold toner, med bass green and reducer to produce a nice color for a variety of schemes. The Gold Toner is great for creating an antique look or overspraying to give just the subtle tones of gold into a shad pattern.
  10. Well I am not sure what's worse, catching the toothy critter or watching him catch one this past weekend on a bait that is built in the shape of a FOOTBALL. Silly thing has good action and the bass just came up and decided to kill it. Must have been a Big 10 football , and the SEC bass just wanted to put it out of it's misery.
  11. man, I put together this big reply and my connection dropped. so this time short and sweet on what I'd do if I could. Separate wood cutting and sanding area with dust removal system as far from any separate painting area as possible. If I had room separate prep area for sealing and drying so you can have multiple projects and baits if various phases of creation and assembly. If I could I'd have a stool at a detail painting area with adequate ventilation and filtering for airbrush work. A separate room for spraying Auto Clears or paints with solvents with lots of ventilation and lighting. Create a space for cleaning up if you have the room and appropriate plumbing. Basically just separate work areas with more counter space and room for baits to dry and drip and assemble for me would be a great addition. I have been sanding and cutting some today so the whole issue with dust getting all over the garage is on my mind. The more you can minimize this the better. If you can add air conditioning/heating to any area where you are storing your supplies and painting I say go for it. Although make sure any solvent based paints, etc. if you have a lot of it are stored properly. I don't have much so I am not the one to answer what 'properly' is.
  12. You might be able to go to 'the' (or a better) Auto paint supply store near you to find your parts, if the local hobby stores don't have the parts.

    King Shad repaints

A couple I did for a friend. The iridesence on the minnow pattern looks a whole lot more effective in 3D. And the micro gold flake on sides and back as well ad the Gem Ruby on the back of the gill pattern don't photo well. (at least for me )

  16. BB Bluegill with more yellow, thinner pearl white scaling with some iridescent blue added. Shad with iridescent highlights. Both with an extra zap of Gem Ruby on the backs.

Stripped the original paint job (very tedious) and mimicked a Money Minnow Holographic Shad.

    6 inch Golden Redhorse

Beautiful as usual. Love the colors.
  22. You were right, the video is very funny, even my wife thought it was funny! I wonder if he signed his worm! Never figured signing one would help me catch the fat ones.
  23. Fluoro leader all the way if I am fishing finesse baits like small worms on shakey heads, spot removers, small poppers on spinning gear, etc. If I am frog fishing, flukes, floating worms, or jigs in heavy weed lines then I don't worry about it at all and actually want the thinner braid so you can rip it free of the weeds easier.
