  1. Has anyone tried powdered metal in your baits? A few years ago I bought a bag of Venom sticks and last night I looked at the bag and on the package it read contains lead. The only way I could see this happening is they had lead powder in them. I was thinking steel or stainless steel instead of salt.
  2. If you haven't found the heat transfer fluid it's called paratherm. We heated injection molds and die cast molds to 600 degrees F.
  3. West marine has quite a few fillers for epoxy. Look at there web site www.westmarine.com and check out fiberglass fillers. I wonder if the fillers would help to prevent the warping by reducing the amount of resin. Does the resin alone have a shrink factor?
  4. I have been using super glue. I drill bowling balls part time for a buddy of mine who has a pro shop and he has his own glue line. It's called Grip Lock. They have a regular and a thicker viscosity. Give Barry a call 978-453-9925. www.winnerscircleproshop.com
  5. If you know a machinists you can have him or her mill a slot with a 1/4 ball end mill on both sides. Then have pins made to hold the weight. Dels works great. I have ine of his and I use top brass tackle worm weight 3/16 ounce and when the bait cures I put a drop or two in the hole that the line comes out of. I can get the nozzle of the glue above the weight in the body. That is where the glue goes. That holds the weight in rather well. Dels inserts have undercuts on it so you won't need any glue.
  6. Give Kim a call at Lure Craft. I am sure she can help you either with a pictue or a sample.
  7. When you reheat you need to do it in short spurts 30 seconds and stir stir stir. You also want to cut it up into small pieces when you go from a non molten state. I call them pucks. Silver flake gives me the most problem. You may also be a tad hot when you pour. The hotter the plastic the more it shrinks. Get one of the IR thermoters.
  8. Have you ever tried mixing colors before you put it in the plastic? Kind of like the artists you see on public TV.
  9. Mike I revisited the paint that I showed you Friday. It worked out rather well.
  10. I have found that the plastic that I have left over in a cup or from my presto pot seems to attract moisture. I have 2 microwaves that I use. One isn't that powerful. I have been using that to store the plastic in. It dosen't help that it has been raining at various rates from mist to doum pours for most of June. Hey you guys down south how about sending a bit of nice weather up to New England?
  11. The plastic will absorb the water. Ever see a bait that got wet in your boat? I place mine on a frame that I made from 2x4's and screen with a fan underneth. the fan was $19 at wally mart and i had the 2x4's from the deck I built. It seems to cool the baits rather well. I leave them their anyware from over night to 2 days.
  12. I put mine on a granite surface plate with a fan blowing air across the mold. between the granite and air flow I can pour a swimbait and remove it an around 2-3 minuets.
  13. Any reason you won't use a microwave?
  14. I found a used microwave on craigslist for $0. It was under the free stuff. Look at local yard sales you can find them for $5 or so. It is definetaly easier to control the melt with a microwave. I also made a presto pot that I use for sticks.
  15. Be careful if you are sanding, shaving or working with lead. In powder form it is easly injested and absorbed through your skin and lead is poisonous. If you are going to work with lead wear gloves and a resperator. Don't smoke unless you wash your hands thouroughly, proably shouldn't smoke at all. Don't eat or drink unless you wash your hands. And use in a well ventelated area. So basicly use the salt.
  16. Welcome to the madness. Tons of information by some very smart people on this site.
  17. OK I did a search for the 3X plastic and really didn't find much info. So here is my question. Can this plastic be remelted and poured into a mold?
  18. 1/4 ball bearings do a great job blocking the holes as well. The nut idea is the best. Make sure you write down every formular that you try. Don't do like I did at first shoot from the hip. And when you start killing them on a color you can't reproduce you will see what I mean.
  19. I have been pouring that mold for a few weeks. I dip the bait into clear plastic when done. like you would do a hollow swim bait. I also drop 3 bb's in the front as the plastic begins to cool. I found the bait needs to be keel weighted. That may be because I dip them in clear. I am not sure. I also use the lake Fork hooks on them. I can imagine that any swim bait hook will do. The action on the bait is awsome. The look great.
  20. You can't please all the people in the world. What colors do I have to mix to make sour grapes? Add to 1 cup of plastic 5 drops of piss everyone off and 10 drops of take a shot at people trying to help and I can't forget the last one large cup of shut the up and go away.
  21. Here are a couple of pictures. you can see it in the green and the silver. They were dipped in clear afterwards with a pearl highlite.
  22. I am no expert but the RTV Room Temperature Vulcanaziton that you are using is differnt from the mold RTV. The mold RTV is a part A and part B mixture. One is a catyalist that helps to cure the RTV. The sealant you bought may never quite do what you want it to. I am sure one of the experts will chime in and tell you exactly what will happen.
  23. It may not be as good as the highlite but I like it.
