  1. Nice mackerel! Thnx for the tips, I was just planning on making my hinges like you have done, but then in wood. Hope that works out as well as yours. I absolutely like the colors that you have used!! Are that those auto-air colors with pearl shine? And what is the bead hinge/pin method? Jeep
  2. Thnx for all the replies guys. And yes I do rotate my lure horizontally with one end tied to the motor like in a ferris wheel. Patience will be the key I think.. Thnx
  3. Hi guys, I've just made a simple lure rotator using a disco ball engine. And it does the job pretty ok, but I've got some questions: What I do now is hang the lure horizontally and brush a thick layer of etex on it, then let it rotate for a while and brush of the lumbs until it looks even everywhere. Then I'll just let it rotate for a night. But.. as it turns out the next morning... I do get some lumbs here and there.. So I wonder how do you guys do this? Do you also let it rotate vertically? Or...? Thnx
  4. Hi DSV I'm using lead sticks wich are exactly 8 mm wide. So all I do is drill some holes where I think the lead could be placed with a 8mm drill. Then you can stick the lead in and play around with the placement and amount of lead by clipping of pieces until it's exactly as you want it to be. Jeep

    Foiled swimbait

My newest one. Swims like a charm. Cut from beech wood, then foiled and sprayed using an airbrush.

    wood sealing

Just wondering: "denatured alcohol " is that something you can just buy at any drugstore? Or can I also use 'methylated spirits' or spiritus as we call that here.. lol

    wood sealing

Ah great guys, thnx for all the tips! The prop.. pellets sounds really good. I just would be really great if the wood itself is really impregnated and waterproof so that even if the topcoat gets bitten to sh.. after many pike attacks it wouldn't matter / just give it some scars. I informed at a local modelling shop and they told me that they sell 'G4'. Wich is supposed to be an epoxy used to waterproof concrete. Has anybody used this stuff? Jeep

    wood sealing

Hi guys, I just started to build a three section swimbait. So I've finished cutting the body and now want to start weighing and testing it. But I'm not sure how to seal the wood. Before I never sealed the wood so I got some unpleasant surpises after finishing lures wich turned out to be much lighter than I thought. So, sealing seems to be really important. So what is best used to seal? I normally use envirotex epoxy for the topcoat. Maybe this can be mixed with alcohol so it gets sucked into the wood? Or should i just use normal varnish? Here in Holland you have something called wood sealer wich is used for waterproofing floors etc. but I can;t find it in any shop so far. Thnx
  11. Thnx for all the replies guys. I'm still working on a jointed jerkbait without a tailfin. But my next one is going to be a swimbait for sure. So I'll do some testing anyway.
  12. Hi guys, I'm wondering about the following. I'm planning on making a swimbait, and am thinking about the material to make the tail-fin from. I'm thinking of trying lexan or plexiglass. But as I am reading in the forum some say that the tailfin should be soft. Because otherwise the fin will act as a rudder and so prevent the bait to swim.. Is this so or not? Thnx

  20. I found a real good tut. about foiling: How To Refurbish Lures
  21. Hi all, And thanx for all the tips. And indeed that ridiculous perfect lure I posted is NOT made by my hands, but by the guy mentioned below! I have not done any foiling, so I guess I'm gonna give that a try soon. Thnx
  22. Hi all, I'm quite new to making lures and have just finished my fourth one. I wonder how I should carve the scales. I've seen some examples where the scales were made by making cuts (like in a net). But I wonder how it's done. I'll send an example. Cheers from a Dutch fisherman!
