  1. Gaboon1, Welcome to the underground. Always nice to see a fellow plastic guy come onboard. How long have you been pouring? Good luck. Zbass
  2. Just regular cnadle wax from the hobby store. They sell it in small blocks or larger blocks. Like I said, you won't have the model left after you pour the resin. It will melt. I think that this aids in a glassy finish in the mold. Zbass
  3. fishingbuds Safety is your first concern which eer you decide. Tha people on this site are top notch and will be willing to answer your questions. There might be different answers to a single question as people have preferences. I am a plastic guy and LOVE IT!! I make my own baits and pour my own molds. That is one of the beauties of this hobby. Throwing something that the fish have never seen. You will get differing opions on the fume issue. I use a good hood exhaust fan and haven't had any issues. Good ventilation is a must. Good luck with what you decide to do and welcome to the underground. Zbass
  4. Kuntrysugar, Are you talking about green pumpkin or grn pumpkinseed? I have a recipe that I call grn/grn pumpkin, but that my not be what you're looking for. Zbass
  5. robalo01, I use resin for my molds and also use wax as my masters. I tried the clay but it left a little to be desired IMO. I like the wax for many reasons, but the main reason is that when I get it carved to what I want, It is easy to glue down and when the resin cures, it melts the wax. That leaves a glass smooth finish in the mold. All I do is reheat some used plastic and pour one batch through to remove any of the left over wax. I like the resin for the mods because I can pour a mold and 2 hrs later be pouring baits in it. Zbass
  6. Should I coat lead jigheads with something before pouring them into my swimbaits? I don't want to get that lead/plastic reaction that happens over time. What should I use? Thanks Zbass
  7. hammer1 Where are you baggin' smallies of that nature? South or north? I'm guessing north from your avatar. Zbass
  8. Great looking baits sapper! Those are the tube style correct? Zbass
  9. Bassnuts, I can't say it any better than the guys ahead of me. That feeling is what keeps me going. When you see others or hear of others catching them on your stuff is a rush too!! Keep pourin' and catchin'! Zbass
  10. stankdog, Make sure the mold is warm when you are going to wait to pour the second color to try not letting it blend. You will get a "cold crack" if the mold is not warm. I hate cold cracks! Zbass
  11. bear21211, Welcome to the underground. This is a very addictive hobby you are embarking on. The people on this site will answer most of your questions and probably ask you some too. Be prepared to spend a lot of time over your molds. Don't hesitate to ask for help. Lord knows I need a ton of it. Good luck and post some pics of your creations. Zbass
  12. hookfin, nova is one of the POP masters on this site. I just started doing some 2 sided with durhams and one thing that I was tipped off to was basting the master with a coat of the pop or dwp before you pour your second layer. Since I have started doing that I have no more bubbles in the second half. Hope this helps. Zbass

I keep the first mold of the master in a safe place so that I will always have it if the multiple mold gets broke. I would hate it if they got lost and couldn't be reproduced. I would have to get the carving stuff out again. Darn! Zbass
  14. I don't think I've seen any of his baits before. Have you? Zbass
  15. don't know if this is the correct spelling but was it Bon Scott? Zbass

Kajan, No, I don't worry about the master. It is either wax or plastic. With the wax, it is gone when the resin cures. It melts out of the mold. When I do multiple cavities, I melt down some junk plastic and pour some masters with it. I know that a lot of guys use wood as a master. That is what it sounds like what you do. Wax and plastic is just the way I am comfortable with. Zbass

kajan, Is that fiberglass resin that you are refering to? That is what I use mostly. Just started palying with some Durhams water putty and it's pretty cool stuff. I glue my masters down to a ceraamic tile, caulk form down and pour away. Zbass
  18. The smile on the boys face says it all!!!:yeah:Look forward to seeing his baits soon. Zbass
  19. Fraley, I put my masters in right after you pour it in. I would not wait until it starts to harden, you will run out of time. Especially if you are doing multiple cavities. Let the first layer dry completely before doing the second layer. Use a release agent on the first layer before pouring the second. I use durhams water putty but it acts pretty much the same as plaster. hope this helps. Zbass
  20. stankdog, Those look GOOD!! There are a lot of worse things to be addicted to. Just what until you hook something on 'em. You'll really be done for. Before you know it, you'll be making two and three colors with eyes. Good job! Zbass
  21. MstormC, I feel funny welcoming you as you have been a member longer than I. Welcome anyway. I have had the opportunity to fish Wissota and Holcomb a couple of times and think that WI. has some nice fisheries. Great looking muskie baits. I'm sure you will have some takers in no time. Good luck. Zbass
  22. tylerd1994, Try starting with a dark watermelon and add a drop or two of purple per 4oz of palstic to start. May try drop or two of black also. Zbass
  23. Kajan, Welcome to the underground. This is THE place for like minds when it comes to tackle making. I am a relative newbie to the site, but have been pouring and molding for about four years. Had I known a site like this was here when I started, I might not be in as much debt. Look forward to seeing more of your lures in the future. Zbass
  24. Some newbies may not know how to or when to do a search. There is a ton of info here for the taking. You just have to look for it. On the other hand, I can see jiggers point also. I believe that some of the users have a bit more time than others.(retired) Sometimes that means they are busier. Many of the users have only a limited time to be online and searching for answers. I have asked questions that have already been answered but I didn,t take the time to search it out first. If we were honest, haven't most of us asked a question that has already been answered at one time or another. If we only asked ones that we were sure that haven't been answered, this could become a mighty boring site. Zbass

    Hookeyes

Turkeylegs1246, Maybe I should have put his in another forum or asked the question a little differently. What do other people prefer in the jigs they make or fish as far as the hook eye is concern and why? I don't actually make jigs so I won't be trashing any molds. It was just a curiousity question.
